Current situation: My son is in State Jail and "they" are treating him with Seroquel. He has struggled with ADHD since he was 3 yr old. Started school at the age of 3 to start his care plan. He was not medicated until the age of 5. He has struggled his entire life. (As so have I, his mother) My concern is Seroquel is primarily given to "Psych" patients... He is given 1 100mg pill at 04:30 a.m. and 1 100mg. pill at 04:30p.m. PROBLEM: He can NOT get up (awake) on time and now they discipline/ remove his privileges because he can NOT be on time?
Can ADHD be treated with the medication Seroquel? Male 20 years old?

Sorry this is long after the fact, but in case anyone Google's this question I wanted to add another perspective...
I've lived with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager, and it gradually got worse until the point where I was suicidal, and hardly able to hold down a job.
I was given sertraline and then as my racing thoughts and PTSD symptoms didn't improve and I couldn't sleep, so I was given an extremely low dose of quetiapine (25mg) to take at night. After that I got the best night's sleep I ever had, when I woke I just cried with relief.
Skip forward to 10yrs on, I was getting sleep, but my work performance was either up and down or terrible, I was angry alot and forgetting things all the time,
always starting big new ideas and projects, but never finishing them. I finally received at this point a diagnosis of Adult ADHD. I was eager to come off quetiapine then, and to go on ADHD meds to help with work and focus racing thoughts instead. So while I was waiting on my next appointment I stopped taking my tiny dose of quetiapine... HUGE mistake... The racing thoughts were like a tidal wave and my brain soon felt like it was screaming at me. I argued with my husband saying "I don't want to go back on antipsychotics, it's my ADHD, I want to wait for those tablets! I got so bad I ended up taking 1 x 25mg Quetiapine, and the relief was like within a hour?!
So I started researching ADHD and Quetiapine... And found several articles indicating how it helped "aggressive combined ADHD". So when I finally got my ADHD meds the combo of the two has just been amazing by comparison... I know I was given the quetiapine for a different reason, but the combo had changed my life (and yes, without being sedated).
Of course everyone's brain chemistry is very different, and there could be more going on with your son than just ADHD and they're reacting to that, but I guess I just wanted to say that use of quetiapine is not without president for ADHD, although it doesn't sound like in your son's case they're necessarily using it for the right reason.
Seroquel is an extremely stong drug in my opinion. I was also prescribed this for bipolar but I also have adhd. It did not help, just the opposite. It.made me a zombie, I wanted to sleep all the time.
I have taken Seroquel in the past and didn't like the way it made me feel it also raises blood sugar. I don't like talking med's from the doctor there is too many side affects. I am now taking natural remedies and also am trying them with my son who suffers from ADHD. I feel it's the safer way.
Seroquel is not indicated for ADHD, all they are doing is sedating your son and he is paying the price. They are interested in compliance not his mental health.
