I have been prescribed Adderall for ADHD for roughly 2 years. I just switched employers and am enrolling in their health plan. The plan I am interested in only covers preventive medications. Would my Adderall prescription be covered. Thanks in advance
hi allen37, I'm not sure if you got an answer to your question by now, but in case you haven't, I can tell u by definition as I knew it to be 15+ years ago working for blue cross blue shield, preventive medications are meds taken to prevent disease. that is an unusual prescription plan & I would seriously reconsider selecting it - I can't imagine it will cover many of your meds unless you are elderly, in poor health, & have a boat load of docs who want you on every "safe guard" med on Gods green earth! good luck to u! since losing my job I've been paying out of pocket for my Adderall an even generic is pricy.
I'd say don't get that plan. They will quibble over that. It could be considered a maintanance med. If you want to be sure check with them before you sign up for something that they won't cover it. I wouldn't go for that one anyway. What if you need an expensive antibiotic, they won't cover it.
No Adderall is not a preventative medicine. It is used to treat an active condition so it would not be covered under that plan. Preventative drugs are thing like vaccinations, flu shot and that sort of thing. It wont cover any treatments so antibiotics would not be covered to treat active infections. NOT a good plan unless you never ever get sick!
