From experience, drinking alcohol when on metronidazole is an entirely unpleasant experience - pretty much the opposite of the effect you want from drinking alcohol. I am not aware of a risk of liver damage, but definitely to be avoided nonetheless.
Hi, i also just wanted to advise you not to drink when taking Metronidazole, apart from anything else, you will be very sick. It really doesn't react well with alcohol...
Drinking alcohol while taking metronidazole is not recommended due to the increased risk of side effects. You should not drink for 3 days after you have completed your course of this medication. To read further check out the following link:

I have a friend who suffers from severe diverticulitis; in his case one became so impacted, swollen and infected that it actually started leaking into his peritoneum (peritonitis is considered really bad as if undetected, death occurs). They ended up removing a large portion of his sigmoid colon.
It simply is not worth risking the action of the antibiotics for a couple of beers.
He tries to avoid re-occurrence by not eating food with small seeds that cause him problems.
