My mother has started taking Seroquel. The 25 mg tablet is too sedating for her and we'd like to cut the dose in half. The 25 mg tablets we're getting are not scored, and cutting them into even halves is tricky, even with a pill cutter. Other people have mentioned taking 12.5 mg. Are others able to get scored 25 mg tablets? Or are you using a special pill cutter that does a better job at making an even cut? Any help would be *greatly* appreciated.
How to get a 12.5 mg dose of Seroquel/quetiapine?

I'm pretty sure she's taking immediate release because the lowest extended dose is 50mg. If I'm wrong don't split extended release medicine of course. If it's immediate, google the Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter, which works great. The cut doesn't have to be perfectly half though, but it's better to take the same exact dose daily.
You could also buy a MilliGram scale on Amazon. It costs a lot more than a splitter but it's really worth it if it doesn't cut properly. Even if the tablet comes out in pieces, you can get a very accurate dose by combining a few pieces of the tablet. She could mix it with apple sauce then follow with a glass of juice (no grapefruit) if it's bitter.
Unfortunately it looks like the lowest dose Seroquel is 25mg. Once the medication kicks in and the side effects wear off, she might find that 12.5 isn't enough and 25mg isn't as sedating as before.
