Vericiguat Pregnancy Warnings

This drug is contraindicated in pregnancy.

US FDA pregnancy category: Not assigned

Risk Summary: This drug can harm a developing fetus based on data from animal reproduction studies.

Comments:
-Exclude pregnancy prior to initiating therapy.
-Adequate methods of contraception should be encouraged during treatment and at least one month after the final dose.
-If a patient becomes pregnant while receiving this drug, healthcare providers are encouraged to report by calling 1-877-888-4231.

There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Animal studies in rats and rabbits resulted in maternal toxicity, pup heart malformations, low body weight and increased mortality.

The estimated background risk of major birth defects and miscarriage for the indicated population is unknown. All pregnancies have a background risk of birth defect, loss, or other adverse outcomes. In the U.S. general population, the estimated background risk of major birth defects and miscarriage in clinically recognized pregnancies is 2% to 4% and 15% to 20%, respectively.

US FDA pregnancy category Not Assigned: The US FDA has amended the pregnancy labeling rule for prescription drug products to require labeling that includes a summary of risk, a discussion of the data supporting that summary, and relevant information to help health care providers make prescribing decisions and counsel women about the use of drugs during pregnancy.
