Selenium sulfide topical has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal reproductive studies have not been conducted. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. The manufacturer of Selseb shampoo has stated that their product should not be used by pregnant women.

There are no data on the excretion of selenium sulfide topical into human milk. Because many drugs are secreted in human milk, caution is recommended if selenium sulfide topical is to be used by a nursing woman.
