Docosanol topical has not been formally assigned to a pregnancy category by the FDA. Animal studies have failed to reveal teratogenic effects. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Systemic absorption of topically administered docosanol is insignificant.

There are no data on the excretion of docosanol topical into human milk. Insignificant amounts are absorbed after topical/perioral administration.
