Igloo Recalls 1M Rolling Coolers Over Risk of Fingertip Amputations
By India Edwards HealthDay Reporter
FRIDAY, Feb. 14, 2025 -- Popular cooler brand Igloo has recalled more than 1 million rolling coolers due to serious fingertip injury risk.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said the recall affects 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. The recall was issued Feb. 13.
"The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards," the CPSC warned.
Igloo Products, which makes the cooler, has "received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures and lacerations," the commission said.
The recalled coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 at major retailers, including Target, Costco and Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as Amazon and Igloocoolers.com.
They range in price from $80 to $140 and come in various colors.
The manufacture date is printed on the cooler's bottom in a circular pattern, with the last two digits of the year of manufacture inside the circle.
Igloo Products said it is voluntarily recalling the coolers and working with the CPSC to prevent further injuries.
Consumers who own one of these coolers should stop using it immediately and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle.
Customers can find more information on Igloo’s website or by calling the company at 888-943-5182 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
