Drug Interactions between deferiprone and diclofenac
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- deferiprone
- diclofenac
Interactions between your drugs
diclofenac deferiprone
Applies to: diclofenac and deferiprone
GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration of deferiprone with uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A6 inhibitors may increase the plasma concentrations of deferiprone, which is metabolized by the enzyme. An in vitro study has shown coadministration of deferiprone with phenylbutazone (UGT1A6 inhibitor) decreased glucuronidation to 3-O-glucuronide (the major inactive metabolite of deferiprone) by up to 78%.
MANAGEMENT: The use of deferiprone with UGT1A6 inhibitors should be avoided.

Drug and food interactions
diclofenac food
Applies to: diclofenac
GENERALLY AVOID: The concurrent use of aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and ethanol may lead to gastrointestinal (GI) blood loss. The mechanism may be due to a combined local effect as well as inhibition of prostaglandins leading to decreased integrity of the GI lining.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should be counseled on this potential interaction and advised to refrain from alcohol consumption while taking aspirin or NSAIDs.
