Drug Interactions between calcium carbonate and cefpodoxime
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- calcium carbonate
- cefpodoxime
Interactions between your drugs
cefpodoxime calcium carbonate
Applies to: cefpodoxime and calcium carbonate
By reducing the acidity level in the stomach, calcium carbonate may interfere with the absorption of cefpodoxime and reduce its effectiveness. You should avoid taking calcium carbonate or other antacid-containing medications for at least 2 hours before and 2 hours after taking cefpodoxime. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take these or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
cefpodoxime food
Applies to: cefpodoxime
Food can enhance the levels of cefpodoxime tablets in your body. Take the cefpodoxime tablets with food to increase absorption by the body. The cefpodoxime suspension can be taken with or without food. You should take cefpodoxime at the same time each day.
calcium carbonate food
Applies to: calcium carbonate
Calcium absorption may be increased by taking it with food. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption. Calcium may be taken with food to increase absorption. Consider spacing calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
