Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "Severe reaction today having new crown, lots of drilling. Must use non-eppe Novocaine to begin with and now can't use Carbocaine either. Tremors, freezing cold, uncontrollable, shaking, when sitting up left eye twitching then, both, then both eyes & cheeks & lips twitched uncontrollably, hands & thighs trembling, trouble swallowing. Now 7 hours later, left eye feels very droopy/heavy, feel very tired & slow, a bit confused & lethargic. Very weird reaction, never had it before and been using non-eppe novocane for 60 yrs."

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "Went to a new dentist after mine retired. I had 2 fillings. First time getting carbocaine. I only know that’s what it is called because the dr said we won’t use this again after It caused my heart to race and I had to sit up to catch my breath. Later, when I got home, I started doing stupid stuff like I tried to park my car where our other car was; I unloaded the dryer and put the clean clothes back in the washer; I asked a friend how she was doing 2 times in a row. She looked at me like I was nuts! And I felt like it too. As soon as I did those things, I was thinking, “what was that!” Or “Why did I do that?” Very weird feeling. Those episodes lasted several days. Now, my inattentiveness is through the roof! It’s a very scary out of control feeling."

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "I can't take Novacaine w/ Epinephrine...cuz of a severe heartbeat palpitation reaction. Scary! So I told my dentist & she chose to use Carbocaine for the drilling of my tooth for a new cap. She told me that it wears off quickly... so when I felt a pang of pain she gave me more! It was the 3% and it worked great in the chair. I left the office happy and still very very numb. The numbness lasted for many hours. Slept fine that evening. woke up with a sore/fat upper lip . PAIN kicked in when the swelling went away. It accelerated the following evening when I went to bed ..I was up every hour in severe pain+freezing. My joints (hip joints!) were screaming in pain & I couldn't get comfortable/sleep. Severe headache also. Next day= agony! I could hardly move without being in pain & no position was comfortable! I began doubling up my pain medication that I take for osteoarthritis. Relief, but only from pain. I am slowly getting better, but NEVER AGAIN! I pray no major damage is done!"

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "My husband took carbocaine for a root canal, and within a half an hour of leaving the dentist office, he had a SEVERE anaphylactic reaction and almost died. He would have died had the EMTs not arrived when they did. He was admitted to the hospital and several blood tests looking for heart damage, and two CTs later, he was released the next day. I have now learned this reaction can come back within 72 hours of the first reaction. We are have 19 hours to go. God help anyone who takes this."

For Local Anesthesia "I was given 3 injections of mepivacaine 3% before having periodontal deep clean with a new dentist after I asked her if I could please have the minimum amount as I am sensitive to drug medications by having Gilbert's Syndrome where my liver doesn't clear chemicals well. She wanted me 'numbed up' and assured me it was very good anaesthetic. After about 15 minutes in to treatment I had a horrible suffocating feeling and had to stop treatment and sit up for a bit. Later that night I had sensations down my neck and heart palpitations, now I have a choking sensation in my neck which causes me breathlessness and stress/anxiety. Hoping it won't stay around for ever, already had the feeling for a week now. Not happy at all about this especially since the dentist has now said I could use a topical gel instead or happy gas or Valium. Too late, never going back to this dentist. I feel that she gave me a toxic amount, she fluffed off to me that she gave me 4.5ml which is the maximum dose per kg"

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "I've had a lot of dental work done over the years. A lot of fillings, root canals, tooth removals, etc. I used to use novocaine but I told the dentist it burns my sinuses so, and made the whole side of my face ache, my teeth, eyes, ears, headache, etc. So I started having no nonovcaine to have fillings put in. Dentist couldn't believe it! Then later in life when I went to a holistic dentist and they did a test to see what kinds of things I might be allergic to and I told them my experience with novocaine. He said he would try carbocaine instead. It worked great! No more pain and could have my teeth pulled with no discomfort! He said it was the epinepherine that was causing the burning sensation I would get with the novocaine. Drs. prefer novocaine because it works quicker, he said. I finally don't dread the dentist so much."

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) for Local Anesthesia "My doctor recommended carbocaine after I had a severe reaction to Lidocaine. Its not as strong as Lidocaine and has less side effects in my opinion."
