Lamotrigine "In August, I hit my lowest low. I had a huge emotional breakdown (out of nowhere) and felt out of control. My emotions were all over the place. After meeting with various doctors about my depression and feeling of helplessness, one suggested we try a mood stabilizer to see how that would help in addition to the Prozac and Adderall I have been on for years. I was surprised how quickly it helped! My crying bouts decreased, and I started to do things I had known I should do but hadn't wanted to do in a long time (brushing my teeth, showering, getting dressed). The only negative side effect was, unlike many, it made it very difficult for me to go to sleep. I just increased my dose from 50 to 100 yesterday and didn't have trouble falling asleep but woke up early, super dizzy (unstable on my feet) and with a headache. I am hopeful that after two weeks at this level, I stabilize and these symptoms subside. It was so nice to not be a pile of emotions with highs and lows - I hope this works out."

For Bipolar Disorder "This has been a game changer! I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder type 2 almost two years ago. I suffered for almost 20 years. Constant mood swings, episodes of anger, crippling depression, and constant anxiety. Prior to starting Lamictal, I was on monotherapy with atypical antipsychotics. I found I was still having breakthrough depressive episodes and still not where I needed to be. This leveled me out and has made me more stable than I’ve ever been. This medication has been a tremendous help. Granted, I had to titrate up slowly over 6 to 8 weeks. The only side effect that I dealt with was one day of intense headaches. I am currently at 200 mg per day along with 40 mg of Latuda. I don’t ever see myself going off this medication!"

"After trying cannabis for the fourth time in my life, I got the rare neurological disorder hallucinogen persisting perception disorder, which gives permanent visual disturbances, visual pseudohallucinations, and often a crippling brain fog and head pressure that makes it feel like the head is about to pop. Lamotrigine is one of the few meds that have been shown to be able to reduce or remove some of these symptoms, and in my case, it completely took away the hallucinations, brain fog, and head pressure, so it made me functional again. Sadly, it didn't do anything for the visual snow and other visual disturbances. So I would say that this med saved my life."

For Bipolar Disorder "This drug helps raise my mood slightly in the mornings. However, it also has side effects of dizziness and headaches. This is especially true two to six hours after you miss a dose."

For Bipolar Disorder "Lamotrigine gave me headaches, and I was fine with it until the rash started to set in. I developed a rash under my eyes, around my mouth and chin, and on my hands. Not every medication works for everyone, and the side effects need to be more talked about."
