For Anxiety and Stress "I’ve never realized that I’ve been struggling with anxiety all my life. Always thought that this was my personality to be snappy and reactive, and feeling my heart pound out of my chest was a norm. Fast forward few years I had a baby. My anxiety skyrocketed to the point I was not able to sleep. The baby slept through the night yet I couldn’t even though I was exhausted. Dr suggested citalopram. The first 1 week was hard. I experienced every side effect imaginable, however it started to ease up by the second week. I am now 4 weeks in. Although my sleep is still messed up, I have never felt this “OK” with life. I find myself in situations where I usually would be very frazzled feeling so at peace now. It’s like someone put a stop on the “flight or fight” mode. I’m writing this as I have spent weeks reading other ppl reviews, being petrified of taking an antidepressants. So far so good, I feel like some part of my old self is back. Stick it out, it does get better."

Celexa (citalopram) for Depression "I am 28 year old female. I was prescribed 10 mg. I read a lot of reviews on Celexa where people said they felt a difference the first week and was starting to get really disappointed when I felt no different in that time frame. I have been on it for exactly 7 weeks now and am just now starting to notice a difference. My interests have returned, I have more energy, and I am able to focus. Overall I am definitely happier and don't feel down in the dumps anymore. The only side effect I had was it made me very tired in the beginning but that has gone away completely. For me, Celexa is working!"

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I have been on 20mg of Celexa since 2012. Celexa works great for anxiety & stress. I have NOT lost my temper from being stressed out for 6 years. I like most people think I am feeling better and have tried to wean myself off Celexa 3 times in the past 6 years but I never make it past 2 weeks before I start having meltdowns. I realized each time I tried to quit taking it afterwards I could not handle all the kids being kids. So I have decided I will have to be on Celexa for the rest of my life. I have not had a moment where I lost my cool with my children in 6 years. I am not saying I harmed my children previously I was just horrible with my mouth towards my children. So if you are reading this and you have similar meltdowns from to much coming at you at once trust me you need Celexa I am proof it works!"

Celexa (citalopram) for Depression "I have suffered with depression and anxiety for the past five years. Gained almost 100lbs due to emotional eating and no energy to work out. I have tried Zoloft and Paxil and I stopped because I felt numb. Not depressed anymore but not happy or even content.....just numb. Just a month ago I started taking 10mg of Celexa and I finally feel like my old self. Suddenly I'm interested in things again and I'm not suffering from negative thoughts racing in my brain. I am hopeful and I have confidence that I can handle situations like I used to. I hated leaving my house, almost as much as I hated being left alone with my children. Now all is calm."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "This medicine is incredible. I had about four months of out of the blue, never had it before in my life terrible panic and anxiety. I was to the point I was throwing up every morning and constantly worrying and thinking about it. I finally went to the Dr. after crying and feeling miserable for days/months. She prescribed me Celexa 10mg to ween on (minimal side effects nauseous and a little more tired than usual, but I take it at night) then a month later I went to 20mg and I'm happy there. Absolutely no more anxiety or panic and I don't feel like an emotionless zombie I feel just like myself. My sex drive is normal just takes a bit longer to get there."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I've been on Celexa for a week at a dose of 10mg, and it has been a huge difference, I feel like a different person. It has helped me with my ADHD symptoms. I used to be so anxious I couldn't do work, I didn't want to leave the house, I was late for everything, and now I can focus better and not obsess about my performance at work. The first night I got so confused and self conscious but the next day I woke up earlier and with more energy and could function so much better. I am still getting used to it. The way I see it is my brain is relearning how to feel everything, my skin feels weird sometimes, the cold feels different, and my emotions and anxiety (which is still there but manageable), is different. I can still feel things like love, and connection, joy, sadness, guilt, and I can. They are just all less intense and it makes more room for me being able to feel good most days."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I have suffered from treatment-resistant generalized anxiety disorder for over 15 years and have tried every treatment in the book (except for Celexa). Nothing worked. Before Celexa I was on Lexapro, which is supposedly the newer, more 'refined' version of Celexa, and felt horrible. About 6 months ago, I decided to switch over to Celexa and have never felt better. I felt a difference right away (within a day or two). I am finally back to my happy, bubbly, chatty self. Other SSRIs that cut my anxiety made me feel 'flat'. Not Celexa. On Celexa I'm still able to feel my emotions-I can laugh and cry (when appropriate)-without feeling overwhelmed by them. I take it in the morning and have so much energy all day. I highly recommend this medication."

For Panic Disorder "I am a 22 year old female, and have been suffering from panic disorder and anticipatory anxiety for about 4 years. But due to a recent event that occurred about a month ago, my panic disorder and anxiety had become CRIPPLING. I could not get through my days without either worrying about a panic attack to the point where I cause one, or not even thinking about the panic attack and having it happen at any random time.It was getting to the point where I was living my days centered around trying to keep myself "level," but also petrified that I was going to have another attack. I had constant racing thoughts. My doctor recommended an SSRI for me-Celexa (Citalopram). He prescribed 20mg pills. I would take 10mg at night for the first four days, and then after that I would take 20mg at night from then on. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF RESEARCHING ALL OF THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS!!!! I completely understand researching a drug before you take it- but it is important to remember that a lot of people who have positive experiences most often do not write about it. It is the people who have negative experiences who will. I was PETRIFIED to take the drug b/c of the horror stories, until one day I realized that the side effects of the pill were worth it if it meant that I could have peaceful days. I took the first 10mg at night and had (and continue to have) a FANTASTIC sleep. I did not experience ANY nausea, no tightness of chest, no insomnia, no panic, no anxiety, NOTHING but a slight headache. It felt as though the pill gave me relief almost immediately. I have been on the pills for a little over two weeks. They have been a lifesaver for me!! I feel at peace. The racing, flooding thoughts have stopped. The panic attacks have been nonexistent. (My doctor gave me a prescription for Xanax just in case I have one) I feel like myself and I am happy again. I highly recommend trying them if you are suffering from anxiety, panic disorder, or depression."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "Been on Celexa for three months. It took a couple weeks to adjust to mild side effects such as heartburn and a general feeling that I'm full or not hungry. However, I no longer have those side effects and I feel great now! I have social anxiety and for the first time in years I feel happy and more confident in social situations. I feel normal and have nearly no negative thoughts any longer."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I have been on Celexa since May and was reluctant to start since I had read all sorts of bad reviews on the internet. However, I am so glad I did because it has truly changed my life. I used to stress over everything and I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I feel 100% better. Celexa has allowed me to take control of my emotions, to read situations more clearly and to put things in my life into perspective so that I am not in a constant state of anxiety. I did not experience any side-effects. This drug has allowed me to take back the control of my life and has stopped that constant worried voice that was in my head. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the same issues as myself."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "After holding on to the medication for about 3 weeks I couldn't believe the results after just one day and literally felt the effects hours after I took the medication. I did experience side effects far as the nausea, diarrhea, headache and dizziness but I found out after taking it the second day that it was only because I hadn't eaten before Celexa. I really see the difference I'm no longer stressed and depressed I do feel the difference and it's a really great medication. I was so iffy about taking depression anxiety medication however I'm so glad that I did."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I've been on this for a week. The first night I took it I felt really, really high but pretty anxious too so I cut the tablet in half for 6 days and on the 8th, took a full (10 MG). When I cut in half for 5 MG, had no sleep issues, when I take 10mg I do have sleep issues and I do have an anxious chest - not jittery but my stomach and chest feel anxious like I've had too much coffee except the rest of me is still tired. After the first night though, I could already tell in my mood swings and I'm sticking with it. It's not unbearable by any means but I'll check back in after another week to update you! I would say ... if your side effects are so strong, cut it in half and wait another week. Almost every negative review is about the first week or two - make it through that, eat healthy and force yourself to exercise (even if you're tired from not sleeping thoroughly the night before). I believe the long term affects will be totally worth a week of feeling antsy."

For Anxiety and Stress "I have been taking this citalopram medication since last year summer 2019. Each time I have taken it, it has really helped me calm down for my anxiety. This year I have been taking it since February as I started feeling anxious and weird again. Like I feel like I don't know where I am and what room I'm in and overthink any little unwell feeling I get. Particularly with my nose throat and chest. It has been so much better these last 6 months however these last few days I feel anxious again and I do not know why. Does this mean I need to increase my dose or just carry on with the 20mg I have been taking these past few months?"

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "Celexa has calmed me down a lot. I use to stress about everything. I always feared the worst. Celexa has helped me overcome this feeling. However at times I seem too laid back and I get very annoyed with people who complain about everyday situations. At first I thought this drug is not working but a month later I don't know how I survived without it. I do have headaches more frequently and sometimes I get lazy but sometimes I get this burst of energy too. Also every so often I get really somber but within an hour I calm down and feel awesome. This drug works wonders for me."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I'm only one week in, and seriously feel better. I'm a mom of two and a lawyer--I've suffered a lot of loss and have been shouldering a lot of stresses. I've always been anxious, but just thought that was who I was. My doctor put me on 10 mg of Celexa. I did have some nausea the first few days and headaches, but other than that nothing. I had so much anxiety about taking the medication, I almost didn't. But one evening my daughter told me that all of the things I worry about turn out fine--and she was right. If you need help, sometimes you can't do it yourself. I exercise, meditate, eat well, sleep well, but I couldn't shake the anxiety. This has helped a ton. I laugh, I feel more relaxed, and I'm gratefully enjoying life again."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I had uncontollable moods of anger sadness and happiness. I looked for ways to fixing it with drinking heavily and sleeping all day. Celexa cured my moods of feeling the need to drink and calmed my worries about life. Without Celexa my life was uncontrollable eating and sleeping and worried all the time. With this I was able to wake up early, get into a workout routine, eat healthily and go back to school without feeling overwhelmed. My friends and family see this positive change in my life. I noticed after 3 months I had to up my dosage from 10mg to 20 mg. I wish the low dosage would last longer but as for that Celexa has helped me in every part of my life!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I suffered from moderate OCD since childhood (62 now). I can control but sometimes it gets the best of me and I need medication. In past years, I was prescribed Xanax as needed. I began having increased anxiety again in May. My doctor suggested citalopram once a day for long term therapy. After one week of 10mg, I literally forgot what why I was anxious. OCD creates irrational thoughts and I can't stop thinking of it which spawns anxiety. It's a horrible helpless feeling. The citalopram broke my irrational thought cycles. My side effects were mild. I began taking it in the morning, but after an hour, I felt somewhat woozy and tired. I tried taking at night before bed and I began having very weird dreams. No nightmares, but odd dreams that made me a bit uncomfortable that such things are lurking about in my psyche. I now take it about 6pm and really have no side effects. I felt I should communicate my experience so people won't get the impression that nobody gets positive results."

Celexa (citalopram) for Depression "I have suffered from depression off and on for years and have taken Zoloft in the past. This time it didn't seem to be working. I also was hit with overwhelming anxiety because of my husband's job difficulties. The doctor prescribed Celexa a couple of months ago. After 3 weeks, I was ready to give up on this because it took longer to kick in than Zoloft. I also had terrible dry mouth and food just didn't taste good. But the Doctor bumped me up to 60 mg and that really did the trick. I only have dry mouth when I first wake up in the morning and food tastes good again. My hubby said that on Zoloft I was more "flat emotioned" but on the Celexa, I have the normal ups and downs that everyone else has. The only negative is that I am on the tired side, but not terribly bad. It is a lot better than wanting to jump in front of a bus. I urge everyone to give this a try and stick with it. Good luck!"

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I started taking celexa over a year ago for anxiety and stress. I had some mild side effects the first week, but it has been great since then. I started on 10mg and switched to 20mg after a month and have been at that prescription since. It probably took at least a month before I started noticing a difference. I take it at night and don't have any troubles sleeping or any other side effects. This medicine has completely changed my perspective. I'm much more calm and just happier all around. I used to be very high strung and easily stressed, but not anymore! Highly recommend!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have been taking Citalopram for years, mostly 20mg. When I first took it I felt so ill for about a month, mostly nausea, tiredness and more panicked than usual. Then it was as though a cloud had lifted. I didn’t constantly overthink or worry and could start to enjoy life. A couple of times I’ve increased to 30mg to get through bad stuff in my life but I’m coping. I suffer from emitophobia, social phobias and anxiety and depression. The best thing that’s ever happened to me. Don’t give up if you feel worse to start with."

For Anxiety and Stress "When I started taking this medication, I swore that if I ever got better, I would come on here and write a review. I started taking citalopram for severe insomnia and sleep anxiety. I resisted these tablets for so long and tried every possible option - some of which worked for a while, until my only option was to take medication. I had horrific side effects for at least 3 weeks. Worse insomnia (the doctor gave me Zopiclone for a month so I could sleep), worse anxiety, depression (I’ve never been depressed), suicidal thoughts, felt like I was wired all day, no appetite for at least a month. I pushed through as I knew I could not go back to being how I was before, and the doctor kept saying things would get better. Slowly, I got better. Sleep improved. No spiraling anxious thoughts. Mood was great. I started on 10MG, now 20MG which is right for me. The only negative is it takes me longer to orgasm and I feel slightly more numb down there. But when I get there, it’s still good. These tablets saved my life."

Celexa (citalopram) for Anxiety and Stress "I had started with Celexa, then changed to citalopram when it became available. (No changes whatsoever, both meds helped me exactly the same. Citalopram was just cheaper.) I had been in a severely bad personal situation, one that included some abuse. I was in a very bad way, and my anxiety level was at times paralyzing. When I started taking Celexa, my anxiety calmed down considerably, and I was able to see my bad situation for what it was, and I was able to actually deal with it. It's now years later, and my life is fine now, though I believe my personal situation damaged me enough to where I'm too stressed if I try to go off the medicine, so I stay on it, and that's fine with me. I believe Celexa quite literally saved my life."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I never write reviews - but I have lived and breathed these lifeline pages for a month. I have suffered with anxiety & depression at stages through my adult life - trauma (sometimes unbelievable) and general life stressors. A year or so ago I simply stopped sleeping. I tried mirtazipine which knocked me out and was fantastic at combating that side of things as insomnia is literal torture. I felt flat and derealisation kicked in, I wanted nothing in life. I was definitely depressed, anxious, and not myself. I asked my GP for citalopram which I had ten years previously postpartum. The side effects for 12 days were excruciating - but I am so glad I persisted (3 times I went to give up!). Sweats, massively increased anxiety, no appetite, insomnia to 1 hour of night's sleep. But after 12 days I SLEPT! And each day is just improving more. I laugh, smile, and relax and am only 15 days in! I can't wait to see the full effect and please keep going if you are new to this."

For Anxiety and Stress "I am a health professional who has suffered from anxiety since 11yrs old, I am now 32. I spent most of my life wandering what on earth was up with me as I worried about everything! I couldn't understand why I felt so low. This made me worry more! I could actually spend hrs and hrs explaining my symptoms/ stories etc. I knew that antidepressants could help my mood and anxiety but I was petrified of the side effects. 18mths ago I decided to try Citalopram as I was so ill. I swear this has saved my life! I never thought that I could feel normal again. It's a miracle! I now look back and cant believe how bad my anxiety really was, I must be strong to have put up with it for so long. Anxiety can really ruin your life, act now."
