For Diabetes, Type 2 "I took acarbose for 2 months. It did nothing to lower my blood sugars. I had diarrhea severly and bad gas all the time. I had to stop going out in public and a restaurant would of been rude. My husband moved out of our bedroom and my family complained around me. Stomach pain was very strong and felt weird. Since I have been off of it for 1 month my colon seem painfull and having trouble getting back to regularity."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "The only side effect I've had is gas. But if you keep taking it that seems to pretty much subside."

For Dumping Syndrome "It helps with preventing hypoglycemia. I also have dumping syndrome due to surgery, but it doesn't help too much with that."

"Be very cautious when starting this medication. Try one dose with one meal, then wait 48 hours to see how you tolerate it. I foolishly followed my doctor's instructions to commence a dose with every main meal and have been sick for a week after a single day's worth. (Nausea, bad taste in the mouth, acid feeling in the stomach, diarrhea, disturbed sleep, headache, and exhaustion after dealing with all that.) I also suggest making that first dose a low one. If you tolerate it, increase it gradually. If you don't tolerate it, you won't end up making yourself as sick as I did by stacking three doses that you pay for 12 hours later. If only doctors experienced the same side effects their patients did, they might be a bit more thoughtful with their prescriptions. I may try this again, cautiously. But I think I will need a fortnight to recover first."
