I just started paxil 10mg for anxiety related issues. This is all so new to me and I'm so upset that I'm feeling this way. I'm desperate for a light at the end of the tunnel. I have also been prescribed 50mg trazadone to help me sleep. Nighttime is usually worse than day, though today has been no picnic. I feel horribly weepy, have little appetite and feel worn down. It's so hard. I feel like I'm stuck in a cycle of anxiousness no matter what I do. Please someone tell me that it actually does get better... and how long it usually takes for even the slightest turn around. Many thanks.
Just started Paxil 10mg... How long to see improvement?

Hey NJMominVA,
It can take upwards of a month for the Paxil to reach maximum effectiveness. The side effects as Pledge mentioned will subside over the next couple of weeks, then you should begin to feel much better. So hang in there it really will get better. You are on a low dose of the Paxil, so don't be alarmed if the doctor has to increase some to get benefit.
Best wishes,
Laurie
Thanks for the response Laurie and Pledge. I feel like I am falling prey to all if the info. on the Internet regarding Paxil. Some of it is so frightening I'm playing mind games trying to decipher the truth. The withdrawal symptoms sound awful and I am debating on whether or not I will continue. I keep feeling that perhaps I should try other options before jumping immediately to meds that have so many side effects and a list of horrifying withdrawal symptoms. How do you know when it's safe to discontinue the meds anyway? I was looking for something more short term I didn't plan on this being my long haul plan... have I jumped the gun on moving too quickly into the heavy duty stuff?? I'm a mess just thinking about the bad outcomes. Help. Please.
Hi, I felt relief on Paxil after about 4 days. I was on 10mg for about 8 years off and on. The withdrawal symptoms are bad but I got so used to them after going off it a few times, I learned to deal with it. It definitely worked wonders for my anxiety though. Good luck to you.
And when you do want to go off it, you just have to taper your dose. Like I was on 10mg then I went to 5mg every other day then eventually 5 every day, then 5 every other day, then every 3 days and then finally off. Once I was off the drug, I had withdrawal symptoms for about 2 months. I believe because I was on it so long though. If your only on it short term, you may not have many.
Of course the decision is yours, but if your anxiety is debilitating then taking the medicine is going to help. There are other alternatives which may help depending on the source of the problem. Are you in any kind of therapy for addressing the source of your anxiety?
Hi, im new to this, but I have severe anxiety an now I just got put on paxil 10mg. Been taking it for 7 days now, I feel some relief n my anxiety, but I dont feel intetested n anything, not sure if its the paxil or just too much worrying, any advice would b greatly appreciated, thanks..
May be one or the other or combo of both. None the less, give the medication time to work. I think you'll find the disinterestedness will get better. Sometimes we have to force ourselves a little bit too. Getting started is the hardest part. You can do it!!
Hello NJMominVA. You'll begin to get to feel better soon. Within a few weeks te side effects you are experiencing will disapate, and the drug itself, will be well within your system, to work, against your anxiety. It takes a little patience but you'll see that once the paxil has taken its full effect, you'll be feeling a whole lot better. I currently take paxil and aside from someside effects, it helps my anxiety levels.best wishes to you.
