... I've had flu like symptoms for a month. I know it's not wd's from subs cause if it were wd's and I took more subs I'd feel better, so that's not the case. My docs after 4 visits keeps telling me, oh it's viral it will pass, but it's not passing.
Has anyone had the flu while on suboxone and if so how long did it take for you to feel better?

Hi. Have you ever tried subutex? I can't take the suboxone because it does make me sick. They did stop making the brand name subutex but there are a few generics. If you are down to a crumb or two that is wonderful!!! Have you tried to skip the suboxone and see how you feel then? Do you think that if you did get off the suboxone that you would relapse? It sounds to me if you are down so low on the suboxone that it could be withdrawals but you know your body. I was severely nauseous when I was taken off the subutex cold turkey for 17 days +. I want to get off this stuff so bad. I wish I could help you more but I'm just not sure what to say. It does sound way too long to be a viral infection! How are you feeling now? Laura
Hey stopthepain,
How long have you been on the suboxone and how much are you taking? You may need an adjustment in the dosage of suboxone.
A month is plenty long enough to recover from a viral infection unless your immune system is really run down. I would recommend you talk to the docs again and let them know you still aren't feeling right.
I hope my post finds you feeling better, and do keep in touch,
Laurie
It's been a month and 5 days. I still feel terrible. It feels like the mono I had last year. The docs took a mono test and said it came back negative. The docs are pretty much saying that what ever is going on is viral and will pass on it's own. But I always thought viral infections lasted only 10-14 days.
So then at one point I thought this was suboxone withdrawl, but the doc says no, and I know what the withdrawl from Suboxone feels like, and this is not it! I'm sure my body's immune system is very weak from all the past abuse I put it thru. I used a gram of 'H' a day for years and was on a high dose of Methadone for 12+ years. I've been on Suboxone for 1 year and 4 months now. I have walked myself down from 3-8mg tabs to now crumbs a day. The process was painful, but due to lack of funds a very necessary process.
I would go to my sub doc, but I no longer have one... my insurance ran out, so I'm on my own with that. I got a new insurance thru work that may let me get a new sub doc, I may try looking into that.
Well thanks to those who have posted... it's much appreciated!
I will keep you all posted to let you know what happens with all of this. I will be going to the doc on Monday to let them know that the symptoms are not subsiding!
Thanks again!!
Did you stop taking any medications recently or add any new ones? Sometimes it can be related to medication mixtures that even the doctors say shouldn't cause problems but I think for me that mixing clonodine with neurontin makes me nauseous so if you can try to figure out what you might be doing new or maybe the doctor is right but that is a long time to have the flu! I hope you feel better real soon!!! Larsy1966
No I have not stopped taking any meds lately, and no new ones. I only take suboxone. Yes I have gone down on my dose, but not off. Actually right before I got really sick I was able to start going every other day on my dose, that made me so happy because I have been trying to ween for over a year now. My general doctor says this is definatly not withdrawl (that's what I thought it was at first). He just says it's viral and will pass on it's own.
I am going back to the doctor on Monday because I still feel pretty bad. I'm having bad dreams where I've used 'H' since I've been sick. This is odd because I haven't had any real desire to use or cravings while on the Suboxone. I know this sounds weird, but I wonder if I'm allergic to the narcan in the suboxone. I don't know I shouldn't speculate. I will go back to the doc on Monday and hope to get some answers. I will keep you posted to let you know what happens.
Thanks for your support!!
I am on suboxone too and a few other medications and have flu-like symptoms too so I know how you feel. I get nauseated, my face feels hot and I just lay around and sleep, not feeling like doing anything, not even talking to anyone. It's affecting my work and family. I have done blood work and got on vitamins b/c my calcium and potassium was low but I still feel bad. Have you gotten blood work done? Anemic? Diabetic? They thought I was one or the other but they came back negative so we are still trying to figure it out. Mine comes and goes. What about yours? Is it all the time or comes and goes? Make sure you let the suboxone dissolve under your tongue and not swallow it.
