Benicar (olmesartan) "I've taken my first dose of Benicar (olmesartan medosomil) 40 mg. I have felt some atrial fibrillation. My doctor wants me to try it for two weeks and a follow-up visit in thirty days to treat hypertension 160/110/105. Previously, I was taking diltiazem 240 mg, that was not lowering my blood pressure. Also, my hair started coming out in large amounts when combed, after only two weeks."

Benicar (olmesartan) "Started on Benicar 7 days ago after 3 years on Cardizem DL 360. So far, my blood pressure has not responded well, especially my diastolic. I am a nurse, so I take my blood pressure daily. I have a history of intolerance to drugs and have to change medications frequently."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been very pleased with the effectiveness of Benicar 20 mg. I started out taking Benicar 20/12.5 mg, and the 12.5 HCTZ caused dizziness and light-headedness after several days of use. So I requested the plain Benicar 20 mg without the HCTZ diuretic, and I have felt much better, no problems at all. My blood pressure has stayed at 120/78, and often it is even lower. I take it once daily and go about my normal routine."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I was first put on lisinopril, but it made me cough. Switched to Benicar, and it has worked well. I take half of 20 mg in the mornings. No side effects to report. My blood pressure was just a little high, and it lowered into the normal range."

"I’m a medical doctor and I was tested to show high BP. I ignored it for many years till I began to get the occasional headache and with a lot of coffee, I would experience near panic attacks. Then I was put on Olmesartan by the cardiologist at 160/110 and within minutes, my blood pressure in under control at a very low dose as I have reazlised that I am exquisitely sensitive to Olemsartan even at 20mg. So I am taking 10 mg Olmesartan with the initial lightheadedness at every dose administration. After 15 minutes the symptoms pass and I am in control for a day and a half. So I have my portable BP instrument with me OMRON and my BP is 120/85 most times though it can fluctuate. But I dose myself every alternate day and It’s GREAT!"

Benicar (olmesartan) "Am on Benicar 40 mg once a day. It works pretty well, although the doctor had to add 25 mg HCTZ to get my blood pressure to 120/70. Causes minimal dizziness, not aware of any other side effects. Prior medicines included lisinopril, which worked better but caused me to cough all the time, and Toprol XL. One thing about Benicar - it sped up my heart rate by about 20 beats, which my doctor said was OK."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been taking Benicar 20/12.5 Hydrochlorothiazide for 7 years now. It works well and keeps my blood pressure at 120/75-80. Regular Benicar without diuretic did not work so well, so I switched to HCT about 6 years ago. I do experience dizziness occasionally and get light-headed, but I was told that's normal."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been on Benicar for quite some time for pulmonary hypertension. I have none of the symptoms listed below, nor do I have any negative side effects. I take 20 mg twice a day. It has really helped to lower my blood pressure."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I am 47 and slightly overweight. I started Benicar 20 mg (first BP medicine) 3 weeks ago for mild hypertension (145/90). The drug hasn't done much to date. My blood pressure now averages 135/80 during the day, but still is around 140/85 in the morning. No side effects except I recently started having rapid heartbeat episodes, mostly during my 30-minute workouts on the elliptical machine. Sometimes I also experience these in the middle of the night. Don't remember having these issues prior to Benicar."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been taking Benicar 20 mg for about three months. I am about 45 lbs overweight and 37 years old. The medication is working very well, my readings are at 120/80 daily, sustained. I do not watch what foods I eat or drink that much, and I also don't take any other medicines. Excellent product for me!"

Benicar (olmesartan) "High blood pressure runs in my family, and I've had it since I was very young. We never realized it, and I could've had a heart attack if it weren't for this drug. After a while, my body got used to 10 mg, so it was increased to 15. Either way, it works like a charm. I have so much more energy, and migraines are at a minimum."

"Olmesartan gets my BP down but with downsides - sometimes systolic and diastolic decrease at different rates and my body has difficulty adjusting back to normal. I have experienced all of the following side effects: elevated heart rate, chest pain, vertigo, breathlessness during exercise , light headedness. I am looking for an alternative with less side effects. The best advice I can give is that you should first get yourself a good BP monitor. I got myself an OMRON BP652 which is excellent. I chose a wrist monitor because it is small, portable and easy to use. You will benefit by finding your own optimal dosage (40mg/day was way too much for me) Effectiveness 9/10; Side effects 3/10 Overall 6/10"

Benicar (olmesartan) "I'm taking Benicar 40 mg for high blood pressure 163/100 on average. I'm slightly overweight (47). Benicar has actually reduced my dizziness I had prior to taking blood pressure medications. I tried water pills, but blood pressure got worse. My doctor knows I'm the kind of patient that will stop taking medications that bother me, so she skipped the lisinopril and went straight for the Benicar, and I'm glad she did. Although it's day 4 now, and my blood pressure is 124/58, sort of low after being in the 100s a few days ago. Maybe I'll need the 20 mg, but I love the focus and energy I have again, and the looser bowels are an additional perk! Knees stopped hurting from arthritis too."

Benicar (olmesartan) "Started Benicar HCT 20/12.5 Sunday morning, Monday evening blood pressure was up, took second tablet that evening. Then took 1 morning and 1 evening. Friday morning woke up and walked downstairs with no aches or pains (morning walk has been painful for the last 20 years). I hope this trend continues. Peeing every 90 mins, otherwise no side effects."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I had been taking Diovan for several years, and it worked well, but the cost became prohibitive ($120 a month), so my doctor switched me to Benicar HTZ. Benicar HTZ worked almost too well, and my blood pressure frequently was in the 109/50s. After about a month, I began noticing a lack of sex drive and then soft erections. I have since switched back to Diovan."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I've been taking Benicar for about 2 years now. Every other medicine tended to make my feet and ankles swell badly, but this medicine is great. My blood pressure is consistently about 110/70 (sometimes lower). No side effects. I take it in the mornings and do not have a problem with drowsiness, even though I'm really prone to this side effect with other medicines. I just wish my insurance covered it on their formulary. As it is, I pay $45/month. This, in combination with the diabetic medicines and supplies, really takes a toll on my budget. But I guess the results are worth it. As a state worker in California, though, I may have to investigate less expensive options soon!"

"My doctor moved me onto Olmesartan after my BP did not respond well enough to the previous drug. I experienced loose bowels as soon as I started on Olmesartan, but stuck with it as it did a bang up job on getting my BP down and online reviews stated that these symptoms could last a couple to three weeks. Sure enough, after three weeks, no more problems! I did communicate with my doctor about the symptoms after a week, but told him that I wanted to stay the course and see if the symptoms would quit quickly. Glad I stuck it out and love this drug!"

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been using Benicar for about a year now, and it is great. It is one of those medicines that I can't tell I'm taking. No real side effects. I was taking it at night before I went to bed, but I was waking up to go to the bathroom a lot. Now I take it mid-morning, and I still have to go to the bathroom a lot, but at least it isn't waking me up. On the days I forget, I realize it because I'm not going to the bathroom half as much as when I do. For whatever that's worth. Great medication, though, and glad I started after being very resistant about going to the doctor."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been using Benicar for six years at 20 mg once per day, and I have very good readings. I also do not have the side effects I was getting using a diuretic type BP medicine. Never again will I use one of those. Benicar was a godsend for me as I am allergic to ACE inhibitors."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been on Benicar HCT for 2 years after being diagnosed with high blood pressure at 23. Side effects were dizziness, constant sleepiness, and weird heartbeats, but it works amazingly. After dropping some weight, I have just been dropped down to regular Benicar and have no complaints. Awesome stuff. Now, if they could only make it taste better."

Benicar (olmesartan) "I have been taking Benicar 40 mg for about 4 years. Dizziness is the only occasional trouble. Never had any problems associated with drinking alcohol, even after some all-night vodka binges - no hangovers either. That was some years ago. I don't drink much nowadays. Blood pressure alternates but is never above 130/80. Interestingly, after running 7 miles (I do it once a week or so), systolic count is often below 110 and diastolic in the low sixties within 5 minutes of the run. I am 56. I am thinking of lowering to 20 mg."
