"Yaz didn't make me gain weight and it's helped with my acne. I notice people saying that this caused moodiness. I was diagnosed with depression a few months ago and also inability to concentrate a few months back as well so because of that I take Prozac and Adderall. Those two pills have made me not moody while on Yaz. I suggest looking into whether or not you have depression and an inability to concentrate if you experience moodiness while on Yaz."

"Yasmin birth control seriously made me so depressed I had no motivation to do anything. The few months that I took this we’re my absolute darkest days and when I stopped taking it it was the best decision I’ve ever made."

"I was taking Yasmin mainly for birth control as I was sexually active. But after about 2 months (3 packs of Yasmin) consuming it due course, I realized that it wasn't only for birth control but it helped my acne as well, and after 3 months, my face was clear off any acne but a few pimples (one or two) here and there but that's easy to treat. When I stopped taking Yasmin for about 3 months and my acne came back and now I'm actively on Yasmin again for contraception and also acne. I have tried many useless treatments and antibiotics and creams and gels that the doctors suggested but to no avail. And like what one said, "it works inside out"."

"Only positive is my boobs looked amazing. I turned into a short fused depressed cow. Usually such a happy, placid and understanding person. Was such a shock for my partner and caused massive arguments. I experienced brain fog, severe depressive moods, severe anxiety, and my pimples didn't budge. In the end, my relationship meant too much to me to stick it out on Yasmin. My sister also had the same experience."

"I have been on Yasmin for 5 years, since I was 16. I stopped it for a few months (I switched jobs and lost my insurance). In that time I went to a clinic and was given their low-cost birth control pills. Once I got back on yasmin, I stopped having breakthrough bleeding, headaches, nausea, and everything in between. So of the two or three birth control brands I have tried, Yasmin is by far the best."

"So, overall Yasmin has been pretty good! I was pretty put off by all of the reviews but I decided to give it ago because every body is different! Lets start with the positives- I feel less stressed about pregnancy (I still use condoms just in case though), my acne has stayed the same as it was when I took pills just for acne - providing I have a good routine Negatives- I had quite a lot of nausea which comes and goes but overall is manageable but can make me quite tired! I had a lottt of spotting and bleeding but I didn't find it much of an issue apart from the fact that I have to wear pads all the time. Sometimes I was a bit achy- especially my boobs but they definitely got larger! Before taking Yasmin, I had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and my biggest concern about taking Yasmin was that I'd heard it makes your mental health worse, but for me it has stayed the same with sometimes feeling a bit more emotional over small things, but it's manageable!"

"I have tried many contraception (pills and implants) but was happy with Yasmin. Boobs grew and I felt good whilst taking the pill. I did have increased anxiety and depression on the 7 day break due to hormones but I enjoyed taking this. I've had to stop due to migraines and migraines with aura"

"It did its job by not getting me pregnant however I gained a lot of weight. I also had terrible mood swings. One time I cried for two hours and couldn't stop. I was on Yaz for about 6 months and I still had terrible mood swings so I switched to Loestrin and have me very happy so far."

"I’ve been on Yasmin a year now and honestly if your doctor offers you this pill say no. They don’t tell you about the really bad mood swings you get or the anger attacks or the anxiety and depression and even the nausea I get everyday. I am now suffering with all of this because of Yasmin. I never knew how bad my anger was until my partner said about how bad it actually was. I’ve only just realised that my anger has been ridiculous over the past months. If any of you are experiencing these things I’d suggest you stop taking Yasmin and go back to your doctors for another pill. It is dangerous."

"So I started Yasmin on December 29, 2016 & began taking it regularly at 7:30PM to avoid unwanted nausea that's often reported by women who take it early in the morning. The first week was fine, the second week made me awfully depressed but I noticed clearer skin, and the third week brought along frequent urination which frightened me bc thats a symptom of pregnancy. But then with some online research, I found out that Yasmin definitely has a diuretic side effect that causes frequent urination. Instead of retaining the water (which causes bloating), frequent urination assisted in preventing bloating. In the third week, I had withdrawal bleeding 3 days into the inactive pills, which last about 5 days."

"*disclaimer* this may not be the pill causing me to feel like this, however it’s very convenient timing. I started the Yasmin pill 2 weeks ago and I have already had to stop it. About a week in, I started experiencing insanely low mood. I was angry, depressed and questioning everything about myself. I do already suffer with anxiety however it seemed to worsen significantly. I would wake up every two hours at night. I just all round felt AWFUL. I could not stop overthinking and I felt as though I was going crazy. Seeing the negative reviews on here is both scary but relieving as a lot of people seem to have felt the same. I would not recommend from my point of view, however everyone is different. I have only had two days off so have not yet given myself enough time to see if my mood improves."

"I didn't think there was a problem, no immediate reactions, 2 years and I'd put on 1st5lb, without changing my lifestyle. My (mild) acne seemed to improve and it was great being in control of my periods. Then I became moody, emotional, combative and depressed. Really depressed. I had migraines at least 3 attacks a month, I had hypertension. And because I had put on so much weight I was trying to lose it, playing football 3 times a week and 2 times a week to the gym, no big difference and I ate less than my slim friends. I don't smoke. I had Hypertension (185/135 being the highest reading). I stopped taking it and now I feel better, lost 10kg, happier, blood pressure is normal. Now I have polycystic ovaries, I blame that pill."

"I was only on Yasmin for 2 months prescribed by my doctor to help with my PMDD symptoms. By month one I wanted to throw in the towel. I felt gross, bloated, sore big achy breasts and my mental health began to put me at risk. I had incredible thoughts of low self worth, insecurity and it effected the whole household. It did clean up my skin though but I never had long/painful/heavy periods to begin with so I’m jumping off Yasmin and birth control and will seek another avenue like SSRI medication. I read many other negative reviews and I related to them all. I felt like a different person, crying all the time, appetite changes and started avoiding my usual loved activities. Stay strong girls. Give it a go as everyone is different but know your body too"

"Please !!!! If you are taking Yasmin/Yaz stop immediately. 8 years ago at 37 I had a blood clot in my leg (DVT) that moved into both sides of lungs (PE) I was completely healthy ! I had two filters and stent inserted. When I went into the hospital the doctors and nurses told me they see way too many young women die or almost die from blood clots from Yasmin. Please research it ! I now 8 yrs later have to go back in to get my last filter removed so please just switch to another brand of birth control. It could seriously save your life !"

"I have PCOS and struggle with mood swings, hair loss, and pretty severe hirsutism. I have had a lot of success with Yasmin for all of the above. The most notable and stable difference comes after the 6 month mark. My body and facial hair grow back thinner and at a much slower pace, my mood is very stable and I don't lose anywhere the same amount of hair from my scalp. I also have easy and comfortable periods and my appetite is very stable on Yasmin, which I can't say about other pills. I haven't put on any weight as a result. The first 2 weeks of being on Yasmin can be difficult (nausea, headaches) and I don't recommend it for very sedentery/very unfit ladies, as the risk of clotting is slightly higher because of its Drospirenone content."

"I LOVED being on my Yasmin. I struggled with the worst acne even into my late 20s and my dermatologist suggested I switch to brand name birth control. Yasmin truly changed my life and my self confidence. I recently had to get off because we are trying to conceive— but it’s the best for cycle control and acne !!!"

"I’ve been on Yasmin for 2 years now and never had any problems with it, 10/10 effective for birth control for me but then again I’m very conscious of taking mine at the same time everyday. Although in the past 6 months I get really bad mood swings and that’s the only thing I could fault it on."

"As someone who suffers with emotional instability anyway I wasn’t surprised to learn the awful ways of this pill but since I’d tried spironolactone with no result and had an unwanted pregnancy I had no choice but to go back on this pill. Week 1,2,3 I was thinking maybe I’ve overcome my mental illness, but my boyfriend begs to differ. I am even more delusional, paranoid, controlling and obsessive. But hey month 2, my relationship is almost over but at least my hormonal acne is clearing ... it was either pairing this with spironolactone or going on roaccutane ."

"I wanted to use this for both birth control and acne. And it helped both. But this is a terrible and horrible pill that it caused me, to become a different person. Depression everyday and sadness occurred from August 2022 till the midweek of February 2023. I became an angry person and always hurting my spouse with words, that I didn't really mean to say. I didn't even recognized myself anymore. Plus, it caused my hair to shed a lot. I wish I had never had taken this pill. I came off not too long ago in February, and my spouse was begging me to stop taking it way before but I never listened. After a few days, I became myself again. Happy go lucky, always positive, and I am so happy I stopped. It really changed my life those past few months taking it and I regret it so much and I never want to be that angry or depressed person ever again. So please, take caution with this pill. It will change you mentally and emotionally."

"Took Yasmin for 6 months now and had some nausea in the beginning but I think my body is getting used to the pill. Overall, my mood has gotten better, I used to experience mood swings. I'm switching to Microgynon 30 and see how it works for me now."

"WORST PILL EVER! I have bee on Yasmin for over 5 years and recently I have noticed how depressed I am, jealousy issues, insomnia, how I constantly hate on myself, feel extremely lazy and so much more. Gonna get off it as soon as possible. I have ruined so many personal relationships with the moods it has been putting me in."

"I moved on to Yasmin because I was looking for a pill to sort out my cystic acne. At first, my skin cleared up and my boobs got much bigger (which I loved). After a few months though ,I started to feel exhausted and nauseous most afternoons. I felt like I was pregnant and it just didn’t let up! I also started to get horrendous period pains that resulted in black/dark red discharge for days at a time! I had multiple tests done at the doctors bout he couldn’t explain my symptoms. Then however, the worst side-effect of all kicked in....hair loss!!! This was extreme, everytime I touched my hair I would pull out clumps! I stopped taking Yasmin straight away and it took about 3 months for my hair to stop falling out. I think I lost about 1/3rd of my hair in total and it was one of the scariest times of my life. For anyone who is suffering hair loss, stop taking the Yasmin and IT WILL STOP and IT WILL GROW BACK! Stay positive it’s never as bad as you think it is."

"Yasmin kept my skin clear and my period 'normal' for years. As soon as I stopped it, life became disastrous again. My face was oily and broke out. I had coarse facial chin hair growing constantly. Periods were heavy with cramps I had to take 800mg Ibuprofen for. I started taking them again after 6 months off.... Upon resuming, in the 1st month I had NO significant change in acne or facial hair. The second month, slight breast tenderness and, my face was less oily. Breakouts are LESS but not gone yet. There is less facial hair. Into month 3, breast tenderness is gone and improvements in skin and hair continue. This pill is great for women with PCOS like myself. I should have never stopped using it on the first place."

"I was given Yasmin by my pharmacist because the pill I usually take was out of stock. The three weeks I was on it I became incredibly depressed. I already have a history of mental illness and depression, but before recently had been doing well. Taking Yasmin affected my mental health incredibly. By the third week my anxiety was at an all time high, I was suffering horrible mood swings, I was crying on and off daily, and I was beginning to suffer suicidal thoughts. I stopped taking the pill a couple days ago and already feel an improvement. I am never taking this again. The last three weeks have been awful. I am also disappointed in my pharmacist for not warning against this and just providing it as an alternative to the pill I was previously taking, which never resulted in these side effects. If you have a history of depression or mental illness DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!!"
