Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I have 3 days left of Augmentin for sinus infection. I have had a mild headache and stomach cramps since taking this medicine. I forgot to take a pill at dinner and instead took it before bed. I couldn't get to sleep since I became very stuffy to the point that I couldn't breathe out of my nose. I started to feel heavy in my chest so I had to get up to get my breathing under control. I didn't realize that others have had similar side effects. I will call my doctor and see if she recommends I finish the medicine. No Augmentin for me next time."

"I took one amoxicillin with clavulanate pill and my stomach started having severe pain, severe nausea and my my skin very hot. It also upped my anxiety to a whole extreme. My doctor is just putting me on plain old amoxicillin. Thank goodness. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND"

"I took the medication for a sinusitis infection twice a day as directed by my doctor. on the morning of the fourth day I woke up to vomiting and diarrhea. over the next day and a half I continued to vomit and run to the bathroom for diarrhea about once every hour or two... Pure hell. The worst part about it was the nausea... kind of like a bad trip where I was constantly very very stressed out. it has now been six days and the nausea has not completely gone away. it is very scary how antibiotics can affect us physically and mentally. my doctor did prescribe a medication for the nausea that I take every eight hours and that does help a lot."

"I had swollen tonsils but no clear diagnosis (I think it was tonsilitis). This medicine brought down my swelling by day 6, which was nice. I am in my early 20s and had side effects. My chest hurt bad, I was extremely tired, on day 9 out of 10 I had very bad lower stomach pains. This medicine also made me very anxious and gassy. I wouldn't reccomend it simply because of the side effects."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I don't tolerate antibiotics very well at all. I was put on this and it was ok at first. After a couple of days I definitely had severe nausea and some dizziness. I really had to force myself to eat. I was on 500 mg 2x daily for 10 days. I only made it for those 6 days, I wish I had made myself push through but I couldn’t work dizzy. I also itched a little bit not bad. Did not help UTI, probably because I stopped 4 days early. Side effects lingered a week even after I stopped."

"Awful side effects. Baby was super cranky with your infection and now she's even crankier due to the diarrhea, loose stools and severe redness in diaper area caused by this antibiotic . With just amoxicillin alone this was not an issue."

"I have used this medication for 25 years because of my bad sinuses that keep getting infected. I had been using it with almost no side effects until this last time. But now that I have joined the 50+ club I am see uncomfortable side effects. Right now I am on it I feel like garbage, I am tired, pale, chills having stomach upset and started to to get tingling in the face after 4 doses. I feel more stuffed up that I did before starting this. If I still feel like this on the next dose I am stopping it .I feel worse than before I started it."

"Day 8 of taking this for just another sinus infection. Have had horrible, HORRIBLE side effects. My body felt extremely strange, tingly almost. Nausea has been so bad I had to take a pregnancy test to eliminate that possibility. I did vomit today for the first time in years after a whiff of cleaning products. The infection has improved but if you have a sensitive stomach - I don't advise. I did notice improvement (on nausea) on days I consistently chugged water (emphasis on chugged) and took the dose while eating."

"After just taking 2 pills, I had diarrhea. After being on the toilet every 10 minutes or less, I went to Walgreens & stocked up on Imodium with Gas Relief, Gatorade, Ginger Ale.. my stomach has never made such loud awful noises, bloating, pain, severe gas, severe diarrhea. I’m so miserable. I’ve taken Amoxicillin many, many times but never with Clavulanate Potassium. I now have 8 Imodium+ Anti-Gas in 2 days in me & I’m STILL having diarrhea, bloating-even in my sleep! Like I didn’t take anything to stop these symptoms. I’m so sore! Tucks actually burn. I haven’t taken the antibiotic since yesterday. Should I go to the hospital? It can’t be a good thing being dehydrated and soon will be nothing but bile...I have no idea if the drug is clearing my infection. I can’t take it."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 pm about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take next dose this morning and super nauseous, tired and not hungry all day. Going to request different drug. To be fair I did not take with food at Exact same time. And did not know to take probiotics a couple hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."

"I went to a urgent care center, I have a horrible dental abscess. My mouth is huge and the throbbing was unbearable! I have a high pain tolerance too. I took my first dose of Augmentin (875mg amox/ 125mg clav) yesterday. I ate a bowl of cereal prior to taking. I had very little nausea and I have a weak stomach. The first 2 hours after taking this I felt a little better and was happy. A few hours later, BAM! I was shaking, eyes burning and I had a mild fever 101. My body was aching just like the flu! I will NEVER take this stuff again! I am 30’yrs old and 112lbs and was written the strongest dose maybe it was just to strong for me? But after reading reviews and forums I’ve read a lot of the same reviews!! Grown men having the same side effects and doubling over. Yes one dose helped me with the throbbing in my face/gums but the flu like symptoms I had to deal with wasn’t worth it ! I was done after one pill ... I will NEVER TAKE THIS AGAIN !! Good luck "

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "My doctor gave me this to treat a reoccurring throat infection. After the first dose, I felt anxious, had swelling in my throat/tongue, and had difficulty breathing. I was admitted to the emergency room for an allergic reaction and was given Benadryl and Pepcid. Never again!"

"Daughter (16), was prescribed this medicine for an inflamed lymph node. After a few days, I noticed her upper eyelids were swollen. Thought maybe she was just tired, but after a week, they are still swollen. She also sounds like she's getting a sinus infection( meds should clear it up...smh). She has also developed a white bump in her mouth, and severe dry mouth, and upset stomach(no diarrhea). Says she feels like she's really full.(Only way she can explain the stomach ache). I'm calling the doctor now. Anyone else have the swollen eye lids, etc??"

"Have ear infection, which was not cleared by the Amoxycillin, which had no side effects. But problem retuned. Dr said use the Augmentin. Chemist gave me generic brand Alphaclav Duo. Took first (and only) Tablet with lunch, and about 4 hours later the vomiting started. It must be the Clavulanic Acid that is the issue, as the Amoxycillin was OK. Called Dr, who said stop taking it. I just hope the vomiting stops soon, as I feel awful."

"Hello..I want to share my experience. I was in the ER for ear pain. I got prescribe Amoxicillin/clavulate because I had an ear perforated...it was Friday evening and ENT was already closed. For two days I was feeling heart palpitation and my chest tight, but I thought maybe because am sick with an ear rupture. Monday I went to my Dr. at the ENT they took my vitals and my pulse was at 98 (my pulse is always at 80) and because my mind was not all there didn't think of the medicine. I went ahead and did some research and its my meds...am so glad that my ear was fine, what they saw at the ER was an old scratch. I stopped taking the medicine and feeling much better..hopefully this is help somebody whos going thru the same thing."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Took an 825 mg dose with a little food as recommended. I ate a small dinner 3 hours after taking first pill. I became very nauseated 2 hours later, and vomited 4 times 3 hours after that. It’s now been 24 hours since I took the medicine and I'm still queasy. I was given it after a root canal on my tooth. I’ve not vomited in my adult life and I’m a senior. Bad stuff for me."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Within a few hours of taking my first dose I felt like garbage. I was extremely nauseous and out of it, almost dizzy. I have a deadly fear of puking so I stopped taking it right after the first dose. I would never take this again because of the awful side effects. If you deal with nausea and diarrhea well then you should stick to it, but personally I could not put myself through it any longer."

"Started taking 24hrs ago. Last 12hrs have been having consistent, and strong heart palpitations. Like my heart is about to jump out my chest. Cannot sleep through the pounding. Has also brought on my anxiety condition, but it could be the heart rate triggering that. If I'm still like this in the morning, I'm taking myself back to the doctor. This does not feel right at all."

"This is my first time taking this drug for a bacterial infection from a bad tooth, and I have only one symptom, which is diarrhea. It's not bad at all though, and I've been taking this drug for 4 days now. I sleep well, eat well, and haven't vomited at all. I'm 47 years old, and the only question I have is...When is the swelling going away? I can't wait to get this infection out, so that I can get this tooth pulled. I do hope all is well with everyone that had taken the medication. Hopefully I will never need to take it again."

"I have a tooth infection at the root of an old root canal. Was having pain in jaw, neck, headaches, gums, and diarrhea. Within 1.5 days of taking the meds (500mg x3/day) I noticed less pain in the gums, and the diarrhea resolved. Very happy to have a medication work this fast and effectively. TMI but it was nice to see a fully formed stool. I’ll start taking a probiotic soon, they recommend NOT taking this medication within 2hrs of eating dairy products."

"This antibiotic is doing NOTHING for me. I am told to take one 875-125 mg tablet every 12 hours to help the bacterial infection in my wisdom teeth extraction site. I do not feel any kind of symptoms or relief. It’s as if I am not taking it at all. I have never taken antibiotics without reason, so I shouldn’t be immune or something. I don’t understand why this antibiotic isn’t helping me. I am in immense pain and I need this infection to go away."

"Was prescribed Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium 2x a day for 10 days. First day, I had chills. I took acidophillus daily while taking the Rx. By the 9th day, the bacterial infection, which was some combination of dental/sinus, was not better. It was not worse. But my doctor prescribed an additional course of the drugs because she knew I could not see a dentist. It may be coincidence, but after taking tablet 21, I awoke with the most severe nausea I have experienced in 7 decades of life. I then vomited 5 times, so severely, I think I may have internal injuries - that will have to be investigated. I'm uncertain if it did not effect my circulatory system. That was four days ago. I took no more of the Rx. I feel completely disabled. (I have not vomited for any reason until this, for 10 years). It could be a coincidence, but I wouldn't take this again. Ironically, on that 10th day, the possible bacterial infection seemed to be clearing up."

"Used for only 2 days (2 pills per day). Within a week, I had a painful UTI infection. Never had a UTI in my life and I never want it again. Blood in my urine was not fun. I didn’t realize this medicine was the cause until 2 doctors told me it could be....Well now I wish I didn’t even take it. Such a painful experience from a medicine I only took for 2 days."

"Amoxi/clav is a wonderful drug. I'm allergic to 5 different antibiotics and this one I have almost NO side-effects. I'm extremely prone to getting bacterial sinus infections and I've been getting them for year's so probably twice a year I get a bacterial sinus infection and Amoxi/Clav is the only thing that works for me with next to nothing for side-effects"

"Took medicine for in ear infection. When I was on my last four pills 2x a day I ran into diarrhea. Got switched to plain amoxicillin for my last 4 pills and I have been done with pills for a week now but still have diarrhea going on day 11 and have to submit stool sample to doctor tomorrow to see what's wrong."
