"I had Empyema morning (infection around the lungs) This worked out perfect for me, I went into hospital for 29 days and had amoxicillin with clavulanate through an IV and then took it oral for 6 weeks after! I can honestly say I didn't really get any side effects from it unless I was just to sick to realise. I was on metronidazole for 1 week before and that was terrible it would make me so tired I almost collapsed every time I took it then I was put onto the co amoxiclav I did get night shivers and sweat, also a headache but I did quit smoking at the time of going into hospital so I would probably say that's why I had them problems. I wish you all well and wouldn't ever say no to this drug you would be privileged to get it prescribed!!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I took augmentin for 3 days and developed severe tachycardia. My heart rate even went to 180 where I had to end up going to the emergency room. Left there with orders not to take augmentin and was given prescriptions for ativan (my resting heart rate was 130) and clindamycin"

"Within and hour of taking one pill I was in so much pain.... my stomach had me balled up into the fetal position, then severe diarrhea and vomiting began! If one pill can cause so much havoc I'd hate to see what a second one will do(I will never use this med again).....this was hands down one of the worst and most painful nights of my life! My present state is laying on the bathroom floor "

"Day two of seven. Prescribed this medicine for a sinus infection. Seemed to help relieve the pressure in my face, jaw and ear that was extremely painful prior to taking starting the treatment. I have noticed that after taking each pill that I get extreme chills and my body feels like I have flu like symptoms. Not a really good trade off honestly."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I started augmentin 1gm twice/day 5 days ago (Wed. Sep. 9th) to treat inflammation in tooth root. the stomach problems started by day 4. Today (day 5) was really bad: headache, stomach pain, pain in my joints and my whole body. I also had a loose stool from day 1. I called my doctor explained the situation and he said I can stop taking it, a minimum of 4 days should suffice. So I took 9 out of a course of 14 tablets. I hope I'll get rid of my whole-body pain and stomach problems soon. So overall experience with augmentin: bad"

"Nasty multiple cat bites so urgent care gave me this. 6 hr later suddenly vomited all over with no notice. After 2 days, only 4 pills now anything I eat running straight thru me within 30 mins. Absolutely horrible and been off that medicine 2 days and still happening even after 4 Imodium in the last 24 hrs. Does anyone know how to stop this? So severe I can't go to work as I don't even have a minute to run to the bathroom. I will NEVER EVER take this medicine again even if I'm dying!"

"When I first started the medication it did not affect me the first two days and then I started having anxiety, nervousness, depressed, tiredness my stomach felt weird and I just didn't feel like myself. I had upper respiratory infection which is better. I have one more pill to take tonight but I am skipping it because I have had such a bad day.. I was on the 875 mg for seven days twice a day... I will ask the doctor for something else next time.. From what I'm reading I think it is the Clav ingredient and I also spoke to the pharmacist and he said that that gives it an extra kick to kill the infection. So this is a super strong antibiotic and has side effects that I've never experienced before with an antibiotic..."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "It has been widely accepted that stopping antibiotic treatment early encourages bacteria to develop antibiotic resistance. That is why you should immediately consult with your doctor if you stop taking it. Amoxicillin only didn't give me much side effects. Just started taking Co-Amoxiclav for bowel inflammation. Hopefully will work too. Will see. Take care everybody."

"I took this combination for bronchitis 125mg. It has caused severe lip swelling (an allergy?). Even a week later I am still having the swelling. I also got a yeast infection. I am not allergic to the amoxicillin however the clavulante is the culprit. Did you know it can cause death? "

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Took Augmentin for a bacterial infection. The infection cleared up, but the day I took my last dose, I broke out in severe hives. I was out of town so did not see my doctor. Took Benadryl every 6 hours for 4 days before the hives subsided. The hives covered everywhere from my face to my feet. Although it cleared up my infection, I would not want to face that side effect again. Never had any allergies to antibiotics before."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Occult infection (possibly prostatitis per urinalysis) causing me to experience severe feverless rigors (principally composed of intermittent, fast onset, violent full body shaking, ice cold hands, and blue fingernails that last 15 to 60 minutes per episode. I'm on day eight (500MG 2x/day) of a thirty day prescription of Augmentin. I am experiencing abdominal pain, abdominal spasms, esophageal spasms, hypertension, tachycardia, and irregular heartbeats (PVC's) as side effects. My blood glucose level is also elevated since starting Augmentin. I am desperately trying to tolerate the side effects, but I fear that I'm fighting a losing battle. Don't know where I go from here since I'm allergic to most antibiotics. After eight days (15 doses) on Augmentin, no relief from rigors yet. I am a 69 year old male, 6'0 tall, 170 lbs., in generally good health. I routinely walk 30 to 40 miles a week for exercise."

"Currently taking this for bronchitis/early pneumonia. Had diarrhea, but it got better after a day or two. The med is def doing its job in killing all the garbage in my body associated w the infection. Normally I have great energy, this is my 7th day of the med and I feel as though I am exhausted constantly, feel like I’m wrapped in a warm soaked heavy blanket that I’m dragging around with me. It’s a side effect, I’ll continue to tough it out. It’s better than when I was sick and coughing constantly, lungs and chest so sore and red I was miserable. It’s killing bad bacteria in your body, your body is then getting rid of it with sweat, and normal bathroom functions so to be a bit off or frequency increase to me is a good thing. The tiredness thing gets to you, but don’t just go off the med and have the bacteria come back in some super form. Call your doc, try and tough it out, don’t just stop taking"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I was prescribed augmentin for a dental infection/tooth abscess. When I went to the dentist, I had already been on 3 or 4 days of penicillin. The penicillin didn't seem to be clearing the infection, and the dentist couldn't get me in for a root canal for another week. There the augmentin came into play. The first dose I took on an empty stomach (couldn't eat with my throbbing face). So I had some nausea and just figured it normal. The next dose I took with food, as directed. I puked viciously. I took another dose or two and had similar results... so much nausea and vomiting, it was hard to appreciate the fact my face wasn't throbbing. So it works well on infections, hard on the stomach though."

"I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection after having a cold and cough for a month. I visited my doctor after having a continuous severe headache, that reached down into my neck and problems with my vision. Within a few hours to 36 hours of taking this medicine I started having trouble breathing, tightness in my chest, coughing, rhinorrhea, higher heart rate, restlessness and nervousness. I took a total of six pills before I decided I could not deal with the side effects anymore. I should have stopped and contacted my doctor when I noticed the first side effect."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I had bites of deer ticks on my spine. I developed a stiff neck, an excruciating pain and inflammation on my head (encephalitis) and high fever of 104 when I laid down in bed. The next morning, the fever went down to 101 when I got up in the mornings and took a shower. Due to the fact MD's have no clue how to treat encephalitis versus a headache, things got very bad. Finally, an MD from Connecticut, here in Miami tested me for Lyme Desease and Prescribed 825 MG of Augmentin. With the first dose of Augmentin the excruciating headache and stiff neck went away. In three days, I was forever cured."

"Was on amoxicillin/clavulanate after getting my wisdom teeth out as a preventative measure. I had to stop after 4 days because I got pretty severe diarrhea. That was a pretty big mistake (and why you should ALWAYS finish your antibiotics, no matter what!) because I got an infection. So I had to go on it AGAIN, and for longer than I would have had to take it previously (7 vs 14 days). This time, in order to prevent diarrhea, I took probiotics religiously to replace my decimated gut flora. Thankfully, that was enough to stave it off for the duration of treatment. All in all, I would definitely recommend going on a probiotic while using this medication, as it helped me immensely."

"I was in the throws of a cold when I touched my ear and it hurt. Went to an urgent care facility where I was prescribed this combo antibiotic amoxicillin with clavulanate drug (strength 825/125). I read all the reviews and was taken back by the side effects people experienced. Frankly a bit scared. The first night (dose 2) I slept very hard but woke up a couple times because I was extremely hot. I had a fever. The next day I was still pretty sick. I am on day three and recovering well. No side effects. I am a bit tired and did experience muscle aches yesterday but they are gone today. Since I was so sick with the cold it’s hard to say what was the cold and what was the drug. I am happily now on the upswing. Feeling much better."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Got a very deep cat bite and ended up getting a bad infection up my whole arm. I left the hospital and was in the emergency room the next because after 2 doses and 24 hours it was actually spreading. After 48 hours the swelling finally started to go down which I was happy about but I started getting severe side effects as well. Constant feeling of vomiting, complete loss of appetite, and slight to severe confusion. (poured chips out of bag onto counter thinking i had a bowl out. And calling things by the wrong name constantly)."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Taking this for an unknown bacterial infection - confirmed with CBC but I personally suspect it's early onset of appendicitis. I'm on a pretty high dose according to my doc (500mg 3x daily) and oh man. The brain fog is maybe the worst symptom. It starts in about an hour after taking it and settles in for a few hours. It just feels hard to focus on anything, like my vision is blurred almost. Between that and the insomnia, nausea if I eat food anytime between doses, and diarrhea what a fun medication!! Loss of appetite too i've noticed. I think it's increased my anxiety too but i'm a bit of a hypochondriac to begin with so idk my anxiety might be increased just because this drug is whacky. I'm on this thing for 10 days. Today is day 3. Noticed an improvement in my infection symptoms I think? Much less abdominal pain, but its hard to get a good gauge on that when you're having diarrhea so much!!"

"It is now week 3 since I stopped that poison, and I'm STILL paying a price. I was prescribed it for a bacterial upper respiratory infection. After the first day, I started having a fast and pounding heart rate. My fatigue got much worse, and my blood pressure went way up (though I didn't know the latter had occurred until I took myself to a walk-in clinic on the 5th day, when I STOPPED that poison.) Since then, I STILL have the pounding heart rate throughout the day, and especially at bedtime, which keeps me awake. It's like my adrenaline is always sky high now. I am forced to take taurine three times a day to control it somewhat. Will this ever end???"
