"Had a nasty infection in an old root canal that had spread into my sinus. Yes, I've had a headache for the past 4 days. Yes I generally feel like rubbish, BUT, it is kicking out of an advanced infection so I'll take that over settling for something that may or may not work. Suck it up."

"I took this medication because I have an ear infection and a swollen gland that's causing a sore throat. These pills are HUGE. I took two pills yesterday 12 hours apart and went to bed at 8 PM. I woke up 3 hours later and started vomiting... A lot. After I had calmed down a bit I went to lay down... And I had to run back to the bathroom to vomit again. I kept feeling sick but I had nothing left and the second time there was blood. Not worth it at all."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I've given Augmentin a low rating not because it is ineffective as an antibiotic, but because the side effects have been awful for me. I received a nasty dog bite with a deep puncture and was put on Augmentin as a precaution to prevent infection. I wish I had just taken the risk. I took 2 pills daily for 10 days. About 4 days in I developed severe diarrhea that lasted 4 days straight. I took probiotic supplements and Imodium which helped only a little. After the period of diarrhea I became constipated for a few days, and then the diarrhea returned. Currently it's been 9 days since I finished my last pill and the cycle of bowel distress has not cleared up. I'm continuing to take probiotics and I'm hoping my stomach will calm down before too long, but it's been an awful couple of weeks and I regret my decision to take the Augmentin preemptively. On the plus side the bite wound healed just fine with no infection, so that's something."

"Dr prescribed this antibiotic for tonsil infection for my 17 year old son. After 2 rounds od 500 mg the infection did not clear... so far no side effects. After this, the doc ordered 10 more days od the same and two days later my son had severe diahrrea with blood in it. He was weak and we stopped immediately. The excess of this. Antibiotic caused an stomach infection that needs to be treated with a different antibiotic. Horrible side effects. I recommend getting another AB if all possible. It did not work for us."

"Hi, i was given this medicine for an Ear Infection and a slight cough. I feel like I'm going to cough up a lung. I'm hackling and choking to death all day. I just quit my job because, I keep urinating all over myself from coughing so hard. The Doctor said these pills will help with my cough. But, the pills made my cough worst. I'm about to go check my self in the hospital. I need to be on a breathing machine. I have chest pains too. I have an inhaler I never used until now. But, I've been trying to find anything that will help me to breathe normal. And my inhaler is helping me. I took 1 tablet every 12 hours for 10 days. These pills didn't help me."

"this medicine made me feel sleepless, restless, jittery , racy and like I was going to loose my mind within a few hours after my first dose. I called my doc and he told me I could stop it and he called in plain Amoxicilian instead. I had none of these symptoms with that. I've been on it a few days now. It seems be the %u200Bclavulanic acid that I am sensitive to. I would suggest calling your doc and telling him to call in a different drug to the pharmacy immediately if you feel mentally "off" from it. . I do not suggest continuing to take this if you feel mentally "off" from taking it. %u200B I had also taken this a few year sago and forgot I had the same reaction."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "My son had over half of the severe reactions to this medicine. He was prescribed this medicine for an ear infection. We spent a whole day in the doctors office being tested for everything from cancer and blood disorders to simple viruses. Thankfully, we found out it was just a reaction to augmentin. Our oldest son has had augmentin before without any reaction what-so-ever."

"I never had a problem with regular Amox 875, I asked doc to prescribe regular Amox for a recent upper respiratory -- instead I got this 'enhanced' version. What a mistake. Every cough resulted in stress incontinence including severe explosive diarrhea. My overall symptoms got worse -- asthmatic bronchonitis with wet cough developed. This went on for 2 1/2 days until I read the side-effects and read the caution to IMMEDIATELY stop the med if severe diarrhea due to potential GI problem it can trigger. Never again, will I take this med."

"I was prescribed this med to prevent an infection after I stepped on a very ugly nail. Also got a tetanus shot. I've now been taking it for 5 days and have two more to go. The side effects so far have been loose stools almost every morning, skin flush that went away with one 50 mg benadryl and energy! My usual aches and pains have decreased, and the energy is great! I wonder if I actually had/have an underlying condition that this antibiotic is working on. Who knows."

"The absolute worst! After taking the first dose, within 30 min I had terrible diarrhea and stomach rumbling. Two hours later, I was vomiting and have had the worst nausea ever since. It also gave me the worst anxiety and insomnia. Needless to say, I did not bother to take the second dose."

"I was prescribed the generic brand( Amox-Clav) for Augmentin 500MG for an abscess & were told to take 3 x’s a day with food. I may have had 1 day that I took all 3 dosages, most days I do take my morning dose, and some I take it twice. The first week on this I was going #2 about 5 or 6 times a day, talking about draining you. I haven’t felt myself since I’ve been on this medication. I’m tired, I eat, but I’m scared to because of having to go to the bathroom, it’s caused me to have a slight panic attack, grouchy at times, and for the last couple of days I’ve got something weird going on with my stomach, some discomfort and pain. "I have a UTI and an ear infection. My doctor prescribed amox-clav (Augmentin)875 MG 2 per day for 10 days. The first dose caused abdominal pain and vomiting. The second dose I took with food and the same thing happened. This medication is NOT good. I refuse to take any more of this drug. If you take it prepare to be sick and prepare to stay home. You will need quick access to a bathroom."

"Well, I was given a steroid shot & this prescription: it made everything worse! I had dizziness, back, neck & shoulder pain, slight nausea, diarrhea, red cheeks, made my face feel sore, barely sleep through the night & I stopped after 3 days. This is one medicine I cannot take again!"

"I was given this medicine for a nasty cough I couldn't get rid of caused by a bacterial infection plus I had a enlarged tonsil. It helped with the swelling but the side effects were something else. It does the job but I definitely could of did without the diarrhea and yeast infection."

"Taking medication for tooth infection after root canal went wrong. This is my seventh course of antibiotics in a bout three months. Not good! The others were plain old Amoxicillin which hasn't helped at all............ This appears to be helping but with just two tablets left I still have swelling in my gums just below the sinus area. The good news is I have had no side effects apart from diarrhoea and stomach ache on the first day but I think this was due to my taking a load of probiotics which can be hard on the stomach at the start. Halved probiotics to two three times a day and now fine I am sure the tooth will erupt again in a few days though."

"I was prescribed Amoxiclav twice, both times it was 875/125 pills twice daily for 10 days. It helped with symptoms of infection both times. But the 2nd time, I had very bad side effects: dizziness, loss of focus, heart palpitations, derealization. I even hallucinated a couple of times. Not sure what went wrong. Clavulanate can penetrate blood -brain barrier and do stuff inside. But the 1st time, I was fine."

"Chest cold w/ post nasal drip for 3 weeks. Been on meds for 4/10 days, 875 mg horse pills. Pros: no sinus pressure, cough lessened, voice back, no chest rattling and can sleep through the night Cons: HUGE pill, slow to resolve coughing Side effects: gas cramps followed by diarrhea in the beginning (but tolerable, like various foods or excess protein does), makes me feel even more drained, frequent urination, mild lower cramps. Method: one mid morning after a meal but with food and water. No dairy. One late evening after supper with bread and water. I think the key for me is a solid meal prior with no dairy, and bread helps. I think if it dissolves before the food, then that's where the gastric issues and nausea come from."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "This has been a terrible experience. Given 875mg for 7 days for Diverculities. Side effects are extremely tired anxiety complete loss of appetite bloating and full of gas extreme weakness in legs feel like passing out. Worse than problem it was for. One more day left and feel like passing on it. Hopefully I will bounce back after it is out of system. Unless you can lay around and not have to function I would not take. Could barely take a shower was so tired. In my opinion bad stuff."

"I got sick about 3 weeks ago and was off of work for 1 week. I went to see my Dr who prescribed me Amox-Clav 850/125 mg for congestion in my lungs. I took 1 tablet for 2 days and discontinued taking. A week later I got almost the same symptoms back and decided to finish the drug as told by my Dr. I took one pill and later that night I had a headache on my temple which radiated down to my right cheek area and my upper teeth. Asprin helped relieve the pressure but i'm probably going to take ibuprofin. NO Good this drug."

"I was prescribed it for a sinus infections infection but I'd gone to the doctor for a UTI. He dismissed the UTI for lack of any positive test results. This medication cleared up both after 8 days. I also felt well for the first time in years. I had energy, no joint paint, and my urethritis was completely gone. Now three month later the symptoms have slowly returned -except for the sinus infection- but having no positive test results for bacteria, I can't get any more of this. They need better tests!"

"I'm currently on amox/clav unchewable tablets, for a bacterial infection (intestinal) h/pylori suspected. I'm asthmatic and allergic whatever creature finds its way into my house.. Nightly post nasal drip, into the stomach, and into the gut and you have a roadmap for bacteria to find a home. I have never had a reaction to this particular combination which is classified as a wide-spectrum drug for a variety of bacteria. Drinking lots of water when you first take them, mornings were best for me. I avoid dairy products during breakfast. It doesn't take long for amox/clav to do its work. You'll see a difference in 4-5 days but do not stop regardless until the full 2 weeks have completed, we've all heard what happens when you do. Call your doctor/nurse immediately if you have any reactions."

"This medicine was given to me for a bacterial infection that I had from a abscess on my butt. It did help rid the infection but I had almost every possible side effects that comes with this medicine. I had a loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting whenever I would try to eat or right after and whenever I would attempt to take another pill. I also had crazy thoughts or hallucinations not sure what was going on. I couldn't sleep, couldn't stand for longer than a few seconds without get dizzy. I almost passed out in the shower every day. I had really bad fevers that would go back and forth all day. I could go on but I'll be all day. I was told to stop taking it once I developed a bad diaper rash. It works but it may not be worth all the side effect"
