Vecuronium Pregnancy Warnings

This drug administered in doses up to 100 mcg/kg have shown its safety for use in caesarean section. In caesarean section the dose should not exceed 100 micrograms/kg. In several clinical studies this drug did not affect Apgar score, fetal muscle tonus or cardiorespiratory adaptation. From umbilical cord blood
sampling it is apparent that only very little placental transfer of drug occurs which did not lead to the observation of any clinical adverse effect in the newborn.

AU Exempt: Medications exempted from pregnancy classification are not absolutely safe for use in pregnancy in all circumstances. Some exempted medicines, for example the complementary medicine, St John's Wort, may interact with other medicines and induce unexpected adverse effects in the mother and/or fetus.

US FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Use is not recommended unless clearly needed.

AU TGA pregnancy category: Not formally assigned to a pregnancy category.
