Mebrofenin Pregnancy Warnings

Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted. It is not known whether Tc99m mebrofenin can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or if it can affect reproductive capacity. FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

FDA pregnancy category: C Use mebrofenin only if clearly needed and benefit outweighs potential risk.

The manufacturer recommends substitution of formula feedings for breast feedings.
