Deferasirox may reduce the blood levels of panobinostat. In some cases, this may make the medication less effective. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

You may experience reduced absorption of deferasirox in the presence of food. Take deferasirox on an empty stomach 30 minutes before eating preferably at the same time everyday unless otherwise directed by your doctor. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. The tablets should not be chewed or swallowed whole. The tablets should first be completely dispersed in water, orange juice, or apple juice, and the resulting suspension drunk immediately. After swallowing the suspension any residue should be resuspended in a small volume of the liquid and swallowed.

Do not consume grapefruit, grapefruit juice, star fruit, pomegranate, or pomegranate juice during treatment with panobinostat. Doing so can increase blood levels of the medication. You may be more likely to experience side effects such as nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; loss of appetite; fatigue; swelling in the arms or legs; heart problems (e.G., chest pain, heart failure, irregular heartbeat); liver problems; and impaired bone marrow function resulting in low numbers of different types of blood cells, which can increase the risk of anemia, bleeding problems, and infections.
