Topical antiseptics such as povidone iodine have a surface-active nature and may interact with lipids from bupivacaine liposomal formulation. The clinical significance is unknown. Contact between bupivacaine liposomal and antiseptics such as povidone iodine in solution should be avoided. Interactions are not expected if the site where the topical antiseptic solution is applied is allowed to dry completely before administering bupivacaine liposomal injection.
