Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

phenylephrine racepinephrine

Applies to: Nexphen PD (guaifenesin / phenylephrine) and Micronefrin (racepinephrine)

Using phenylephrine together with racepinephrine may increase cardiovascular side effects such as elevations in heart rate and blood pressure or irregular heart rhythm. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns, particularly if you have a history of high blood pressure, arrhythmia, or heart disease. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

phenylephrine food

Applies to: Nexphen PD (guaifenesin / phenylephrine)

Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.

MONITOR: Coadministration of two or more sympathomimetic agents may increase the risk of adverse effects such as nervousness, irritability, and increased heart rate. Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants, particularly amphetamines, can potentiate the adrenergic response to vasopressors and other sympathomimetic agents. Additive increases in blood pressure and heart rate may occur due to enhanced peripheral sympathetic activity.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if two or more sympathomimetic agents are coadministered. Pulse and blood pressure should be closely monitored.
