Interactions between Iberet and Iron sucrose
1 drug interaction and 3 additional warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Iberet (multivitamin with iron)
- iron sucrose
Drug interactions
Moderate drug interactions
Moderate:
multivitamins with iron iron sucrose
Applies to: Iberet (multivitamin with iron) and iron sucrose
Generally avoid
Parenteral iron therapy may reduce the absorption of concomitantly administered oral iron preparations.
Management
Parenteral iron preparations should not be administered concomitantly with oral iron preparations. Patients should wait at least 5 days after stopping parenteral iron therapy before taking oral iron supplements.

Therapeutic duplication warnings
Therapeutic duplication is the use of more than one medicine from the same drug category or therapeutic class to treat the same condition.
It can be intentional, when combining drugs with similar actions adds demonstrated therapeutic benefit — or unintentional, such as when a patient sees multiple prescribers or fills prescriptions at more than one pharmacy, which can lead to adverse effects.
Duplication:
Iron preparations
The recommended maximum number of medicines in the 'iron preparations' category to be taken concurrently is usually one. Your list includes two medicines belonging to the 'iron preparations' category:
- Iberet (multivitamin with iron)
- iron sucrose
Note: In certain circumstances, the benefits of taking this combination of drugs may outweigh any risks. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your medications or dosage.
Food/lifestyle interactions
Moderate food/lifestyle interactions
Moderate:
multivitamins with iron Food/Lifestyle
Applies to: Iberet (multivitamin with iron)
Adjust dosing interval
Concomitant use of some oral medications may reduce the bioavailability of orally administered iron, and vice versa. Food taken in conjunction with oral iron supplements may reduce the bioavailability of the iron. However, in many patients intolerable gastrointestinal side effects occur necessitating administration with food.
Management
Ideally, iron products should be taken on an empty stomach (i.e., at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals), but if this is not possible, administer with meals and monitor the patient more closely for a subtherapeutic effect. Some studies suggest administration of iron with ascorbic acid may enhance bioavailability. In addition, administration of oral iron products and some oral medications should be separated whenever the bioavailability of either agent may be decreased. Consult the product labeling for specific separation times and monitor clinical responses as appropriate.

Disease interactions
1 potential interaction Applies to: 1 condition, including Hemoglobinopathy.
Hemoglobinopathy
Major:
iron sucrose
Iron sucrose has a major potential interaction with Hemoglobinopathy.
There is no excretory mechanism for iron. Iron will correct only hemoglobin abnormalities due to iron deficiency and should not be used to treat conditions such as thalassemia, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis, normocytic anemia (unless iron deficiency exists), or in patients receiving blood transfusions. Clinical monitoring of erythropoietic function and ferritin levels is recommended.

Drug Interaction Classification
| Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit. | |
| Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances. | |
| Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan. | |
| No interaction information available. |
