Disease interactions

9 potential interactions Applies to: 9 conditions, including Constipation, Arrhythmia, Cardiovascular Conditions and Disorders, Heart Block, and Neutropenia.

Arrhythmia

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Arrhythmia.

The IV and oral formulations of granisetron should be used with caution in patients with preexisting arrhythmias or cardiac conduction disorders because QT prolongation has been reported. Patients with cardiac disease, electrolyte abnormalities, cardiotoxic chemotherapy, or concomitant QT-prolonging drugs may be particularly at risk for clinical consequences.

Cardiovascular Conditions and Disorders

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Cardiovascular Conditions and Disorders.

Constipation

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Constipation.

Granisetron may mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distention. Monitor for decreased bowel activity, particularly in patients with risk factors for gastrointestinal obstruction or following recent abdominal surgery. In patients with preexisting constipation receiving subcutaneous granisetron, consider optimizing bowel regimens.

Electrolyte Abnormalities

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Electrolyte Abnormalities.

Gastrointestinal Obstruction

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Gastrointestinal Obstruction.

Heart Block

Moderate:

dyclonine / menthol topical

The dyclonine topical in dyclonine / menthol topical has a moderate potential interaction with Heart Block.

Dyclonine is absorbed rapidly through intact skin and mucosal membranes following topical administration. Prolonged exposure, large doses, frequent applications and/or use on compromised skin or mucosa can produce systemic toxicity. Cardiovascular adverse effects include depression of myocardium, hypotension, bradycardia, and cardiac arrest. Therapy with dyclonine topical should be administered cautiously in patients with shock, sinus bradyarrhythmia, or severe heart block. The recommended dosage should not be exceeded.

Neutropenia

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Neutropenia.

Serious or severe injection site reactions have been reported with the subcutaneous formulation of granisetron. Patients who are neutropenic may be at greater risk; monitor for injection site reactions during treatment and consider discontinuing therapy for severe or persistent reactions.

Renal Dysfunction

Moderate:

granisetron

Granisetron has a moderate potential interaction with Renal Dysfunction.

The subcutaneous formulation of granisetron should be avoided in patients with severe renal dysfunction. In patients with moderate renal dysfunction, subcutaneous granisetron should not be administered more frequently than once every 14 days because the clinical significance of potential prolonged elimination of the polymer vehicle is unknown.

Shock

Moderate:

dyclonine / menthol topical

The dyclonine topical in dyclonine / menthol topical has a moderate potential interaction with Shock.

Major Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderate Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minor Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
Unknown No interaction information available.
