cholera vaccine, live SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) ChAdOx1 vaccine, recombinant

Applies to: cholera vaccine, live and sars-cov-2 (covid-19) chadox1 vaccine, recombinant

The safety and effectiveness of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) ChAdOx1 vaccine, recombinant given at the same time with another vaccine or within a short period of each other have not been studied. Whether it is preferable to administer the vaccines together during the same visit (or shortly after one another) or wait at least 14 days in between each vaccine may be dependent on a number of factors including if the patient is behind or at risk of becoming behind on recommended vaccines, their risk of vaccine-preventable disease (e.G., during an outbreak or occupational exposures), and the side effects of the vaccines. Talk to your doctor or other healthcare providers if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Coadministration of oral cholera vaccine with food or an oral beverage may impair its efficacy. The formulations of both the inactivated and live, attenuated oral cholera vaccines (Dukoral and Vaxchora, respectively) are acid-labile, and must be administered with a buffer. According to the manufacturer, eating and drinking may interfere with the protective effect of the buffer. However, clinical data are not available.

MANAGEMENT: It is recommended that patients avoid eating or drinking for 60 minutes before and after administration of either Dukoral or Vaxchora oral cholera vaccines.
