Ceftin (cefuroxime)
Protonix (pantoprazole)

Interactions between your drugs

cefuroxime pantoprazole

Applies to: Ceftin (cefuroxime) and Protonix (pantoprazole)

Using cefuroxime together with pantoprazole is not recommended. By reducing stomach acid, pantoprazole can decrease the absorption and blood levels of cefuroxime and make the medication less effective against infections. You may need to stop taking pantoprazole while you are being treated with cefuroxime, or your doctor may want to prescribe a different antibiotic. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Major Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderate Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minor Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
