Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

cefpodoxime magnesium oxide

Applies to: cefpodoxime and Prepopik (citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate)

By reducing the acidity level in the stomach, magnesium oxide may interfere with the absorption of cefpodoxime and reduce its effectiveness. You should avoid taking magnesium oxide or other antacid-containing medications for at least 2 hours before and 2 hours after taking cefpodoxime. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take these or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

cefpodoxime sodium picosulfate

Applies to: cefpodoxime and Prepopik (citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate)

The laxative effect of sodium picosulfate may be decreased when used during or following treatment with cefpodoxime. Your doctor may prescribe a substitute for sodium picosulfate that is not affected by treatment with cefpodoxime. You should let your doctor know if you experience signs and symptoms of low magnesium or potassium blood level such as weakness, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, tingling, numbness, muscle pain, cramps, nausea, or vomiting. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

cefpodoxime food

Applies to: cefpodoxime

Food can enhance the levels of cefpodoxime tablets in your body. Take the cefpodoxime tablets with food to increase absorption by the body. The cefpodoxime suspension can be taken with or without food. You should take cefpodoxime at the same time each day.

Moderate

sodium picosulfate food

Applies to: Prepopik (citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate)

Oral medications may not be properly absorbed when they are taken within one hour before starting sodium picosulfate for bowel cleansing. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to see if you should adjust the dosing schedule of your other medications before you begin bowel cleansing treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
