Drug Interactions between cefpodoxime and esomeprazole
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- cefpodoxime
- esomeprazole
Interactions between your drugs
cefpodoxime esomeprazole
Applies to: cefpodoxime and esomeprazole
Using cefpodoxime together with esomeprazole is not recommended. By reducing stomach acid, esomeprazole can decrease the absorption and blood levels of cefpodoxime and make the medication less effective against infections. You may need to stop taking esomeprazole while you are being treated with cefpodoxime, or your doctor may want to prescribe a different antibiotic. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
cefpodoxime food
Applies to: cefpodoxime
Food can enhance the levels of cefpodoxime tablets in your body. Take the cefpodoxime tablets with food to increase absorption by the body. The cefpodoxime suspension can be taken with or without food. You should take cefpodoxime at the same time each day.
esomeprazole food
Applies to: esomeprazole
Food may interfere with the absorption of esomeprazole. Esomeprazole should be taken at least one hour before meals and at the same time every day. When esomeprazole is given to patients receiving continuous enteral nutrition (tube feedings), the tube feeding should be interrupted for at least 1 hour before and 1 hour after the dose of esomeprazole. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
