Drug Interactions between calcium carbonate and Odefsey
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- calcium carbonate
- Odefsey (emtricitabine/rilpivirine/tenofovir alafenamide)
Interactions between your drugs
calcium carbonate rilpivirine
Applies to: calcium carbonate and Odefsey (emtricitabine / rilpivirine / tenofovir alafenamide)
By reducing the acidity level in the stomach, calcium carbonate can decrease the absorption and blood levels of rilpivirine and make the medication less effective against HIV. To minimize the risk of interaction, calcium carbonate should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after you take rilpivirine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
calcium carbonate food
Applies to: calcium carbonate
Calcium absorption may be increased by taking it with food. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption. Calcium may be taken with food to increase absorption. Consider spacing calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
rilpivirine food
Applies to: Odefsey (emtricitabine / rilpivirine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Food significantly increases the absorption of rilpivirine. You should take each dose of rilpivirine with a meal. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication. Grapefruit juice can also increase the absorption of rilpivirine and should preferably be avoided.
tenofovir food
Applies to: Odefsey (emtricitabine / rilpivirine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
