Using these medications together can also cause drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, visual disturbances, and convulsions. An alternative antibiotic should be considered. Drug and food interactions

You may experience reduced absorption of ampicillin in the presence of food. The effectiveness of the antibiotic may be reduced. Ampicillin should be administered one hour before or two hours after meals. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Penicillin V and amoxicillin are not affected by food and may be given without regard to meals.

Nalidixic acid and multivitamin with minerals should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of nalidixic acid into the bloodstream and reduce its effectiveness. If possible, it may be best to avoid taking multivitamin with minerals while your are being treated with nalidixic acid. Otherwise, you should take nalidixic acid either 2 hours before or 2 hours after the multivitamin with minerals dose.
