Drug Interactions between Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and Trelegy Ellipta
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen/chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine)
- Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone/umeclidinium/vilanterol)
Interactions between your drugs
chlorpheniramine umeclidinium
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen / chlorpheniramine / phenylephrine) and Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone / umeclidinium / vilanterol)
Using chlorpheniramine together with umeclidinium may increase side effects such as drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, heat intolerance, flushing, decreased sweating, difficulty urinating, abdominal cramping, constipation, rapid heart beat, confusion, memory problems, and glaucoma. Although serious side effects are not very common with inhaled or topically applied preparations because only limited amounts of the medication generally get absorbed into the bloodstream from the lungs or skin, they can sometimes occur, especially in the elderly or when combined with other medications that have similar side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. You should avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how these medications affect you. When using an inhaled product by nebulizer, keep your eyes closed or use an eye mask to avoid having the medication get into the eyes, which can cause blurry vision and eye pain as well as increase absorption of the medication into the bloodstream. When using a topical preparation such as a cream or solution, avoid applying to broken skin or using occlusive dressings over the application areas, and also avoid touching the eyes until after you wash your hands with soap and water. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
phenylephrine vilanterol
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen / chlorpheniramine / phenylephrine) and Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone / umeclidinium / vilanterol)
Using phenylephrine together with vilanterol may increase cardiovascular side effects such as elevations in heart rate and blood pressure or irregular heart rhythm. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns, particularly if you have a history of high blood pressure, arrhythmia, or heart disease. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
fluticasone vilanterol
Applies to: Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone / umeclidinium / vilanterol) and Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone / umeclidinium / vilanterol)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
Drug and food interactions
acetaminophen food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen / chlorpheniramine / phenylephrine)
Ask your doctor before using acetaminophen together with ethanol (alcohol). This can cause serious side effects that affect your liver. Call your doctor immediately if you experience a fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, excessive tiredness or weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash or itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or the whites of your eyes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
chlorpheniramine food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen / chlorpheniramine / phenylephrine)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of chlorpheniramine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with chlorpheniramine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of chlorpheniramine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
phenylephrine food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold (acetaminophen / chlorpheniramine / phenylephrine)
Both phenylephrine and caffeine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects. Talk to your doctor before using these medications, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart disease. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
