This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Abilify (aripiprazole)
- lomitapide
Interactions between your drugs
ARIPiprazole lomitapide
Applies to: Abilify (aripiprazole) and lomitapide
Lomitapide may increase the blood levels of ARIPiprazole. This can increase the risk and/or severity of side effects such as drowsiness, seizure, Parkinson-like symptoms, abnormal muscle movements, and low blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you experience agitation, aggression, confusion, convulsions, muscle spasm, or movements that you can't stop or control such as lip smacking, chewing, puckering, frowning or scowling, tongue thrusting, teeth clenching, jaw twitching, blinking, eye rolling, shaking or jerking of arms and legs, tremor, jitteriness, restlessness, pacing, and foot tapping. Also be alert to symptoms of low blood pressure such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or increased pulse or heart rate. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how these medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position, especially at the beginning of treatment or after an increase in dose of ARIPiprazole. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
lomitapide food
Applies to: lomitapide
Taking lomitapide with food may increase gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or discomfort, constipation, indigestion, and gas. The absorption of any other oral medication you may take can be affected if you develop diarrhea or vomiting. To reduce the risk of gastrointestinal intolerance, lomitapide should be taken once daily with a glass of water, without food, at least 2 hours after the evening meal. You should also follow a low-fat diet (<20% of total calories from fat) during treatment with lomitapide, and avoid the consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Since lomitapide may cause injury to the liver, you should have no more than one alcoholic drink per day. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark colored urine, light colored stools, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
ARIPiprazole food
Applies to: Abilify (aripiprazole)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of ARIPiprazole such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with ARIPiprazole. Do not use more than the recommended dose of ARIPiprazole, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
