Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) results in a reduction in red blood cells (erythrocytes). This is due to an interruption in the red blood cell development stage that stops the precursor cells (Erythroblasts) being formed. In Pure Red Cell Aplasia the red blood cells are reduced but the white blood cell and platelet production is normal.
