For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Took for a total of 14 weeks. Experienced extreme fatigue, rubbery weak legs, brain fog. Moderate improvement in flow increase, fewer night visits to bathroom, and absence of prostatitis type symptoms. Last week had an onset of tremors in my hands that was severe enough to create difficulties doing things like peeling fruit. Stopped taking and called urologist who defended the drug. Have not yet noticed any worsening of prostate symptoms after one week. Tremors still present but much reduced. I will keep the pills in case prostatitis returns to use as a last resort. Cannot be certain my negatative reactions were due to Alfuzosin, but they were coincidental and also very scary, especially the tremors"

"I started experiencing LUTS during an infection & was prescribed Flomax. Flomax worked but the side effects for me were not worth it. Retrograde ejaculation, hot flushes, muscle aches, sweating, & extreme nausea. I asked my urologist if I could switch to alfuzosin & he was immediately on board. It’s time released so I have had no side effects & my RE cleared in 3 days. Takes up to 4 weeks to work fully so stopping it before that time period will not help. I see a lot of people stopping it after less than a month on here. Our bodies all react to this stuff differently, but alfuzosin is just a superior medication. It was invented in the 1970s, 20 years before Flomax, and has less side effects. Both were permitted for use in the USA in the 00s. Alfuzosin in 03, & Flomax in 09. Flomax just has a better brand name & advertising which is why drs push it. If you are prescribed this medication give it a chance & take it on a full stomach. I take mine at 8pm. No dizziness!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Took medicine for the first time last night. I'm now up at 3 with a migraine. It's extreme, right in the front, similar to a bad sinus headache. Ibuprofen isn't helping. After reading these comments I am going to stop immediately."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Have been taking Alfuzosin for nearly a year now for bph, having previously tried Tamsulosin. Took two tablets a day originally but have recently reduced to one as dizziness started to become a problem. Side effects are much less than Tamsulosin particularly better ejaculation and no headaches. Urine flow on one 2mg tablet a day is more of an issue though and also getting more swelling in my ankles. I'm thinking of asking my GP to consider an alternative if one exists that can retain the benefits of alfuzosin but without the dizziness."

"Female taking alfuzosin for urinary retention. I have had neurogenic bladder for years. Frequency, incontinence, and retention after spine/ back injury. I shied away from medications after a very bad reaction to FloMax but recently went back to a urologist and he strongly advised taking something for the retention part because that can cause kidney issues and infections. I started on alfuzosin a few months ago. I still have the frequency and occasional accidents but my residual went from 300-400 down to 45 so it’s definitely helping with retention and few side effects, mainly feeling tired but not as bad now. So I am sticking with it."

"I have just taken 2.5mg alfuzosin last night at 10pm. Thinking the effects would be minor (I was wrong) Straightaway I got neck ache and constant pressure in my head, stuffy nose, light headiness, ringing ears, heart palpitations if I got up to the toilet or moved anywhere. It’s been over 5 hours and I can still feel weak and palpitations when I get up after sleeping. This drug is not worth it. I’d rather live with the prostatitis than put up with this."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Started my treatment with Alfuzosin 3 weeks ago. The effect was immediate with better flow, less congestion, and a feeling of complete emptying. The side effects were at their worst for days 1-3 but have subsided since then. The headache and fatigue were dominant. I don't see how I will be able to stop this medicine that delivers as expected. The reason for the medication is very weak flow with many interruptions and nocturnal visits to the toilet."

"I was on this for Neurogenic bladder. Afluzosin dropped my blood pressure so low that I fainted multiple times. It made me dizzy and jittery. My doctor wanted me to go to the hospital. This is listed side effects of the medication. Unfortunately I am unable to take this medication."

"Female. I have urinary retention and spastic bladder where I have accidents and urinary frequency. The only other medication I tried was Flomax which I had a horrible reaction too. Recently went back to the urologist to try again and he said id is Neurogenic bladderand was prescribed Alfuzosin. I have been taking it for 2 months now and only side effect is it makes me tired but I have gotten use to it and it’s not as bad now. It has greatly improved retention where before I would have a residual of 300-400 and now it i tos down 50. It has not improved my accidents or the frequency that much but at least it is helping me empty my bladder without having to straight cath which my doctor was the most concerned about. For that I give it a 10."
