Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Bactrim ds cleared up my infected finger, just like most antibiotics do. The difference is in the side effects. The nausea and diarrhea are worse on this one. But the biggest problem was that my depression which I had under control with medication became worse than ever overnight. I don't know whether it interfered with my antidepressant (bupropion xl) or just aggravated the symptoms so much that it was uncontrollable. Either way, I spent a week alternating between despair and rage on a hair trigger. I would not try this again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had a facial abscess lanced at urgent care and prescribed Bactrim in case it was MRSA. I took it for about 8 days twice daily and lost my appetite, got headaches and felt anxious and depressed. I continued to get cystic acne behind my ears, mostly the ear by the abscess that was drained so the dermatologist PA told me to take Bactrim for another month, once a day. I took it another 12 days until I began having knee joint pain and achyness in my legs like I've got the flu. Oh I was also getting the chills. I've been off it 3 days and still having very bad leg pain that's caused me to have a panic attack and extreme mood swings and depression. I know it's from this antibiotic... I'm praying that the pain goes away as is debilitating and I was a healthy 30 year old prior to this."

Sulfatrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Prescribed Sulfatrim for skin infection. Took 1 pill and began to feel body aches and pains and felt chilled with fever and flu like. Woke up in the morning drenched in sweat with severe pain in my side radiating to my tail bone. Couldn't sit, couldn't stand and couldn't lie down. Agonizing pain in my joints. Took another pill as I did not realize it was the drug doing it. Felt like I might die. Went to doctors in agony. Told to stop taking and given another antibiotic. Was to sick too take the other antibiotic and too afraid. After a few days, the pain subsided but missed a week of work because of it. Cannot imagine what other damage it did. Will never, ever take again. I thought I would die on this drug."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Treated with Bactrim for MRSA. This drug ruin my life. Bactrim is a very strong drug. This is over a year now I’ve taken Bactrim and it left me with a number of side effects up until now a whole year later with weight loss, stomach problems, tightness in the throat, rash, depression, lymph nodes and other feelings I can’t describe. Please stay far away from this drug because I can’t understand how this drug is prescribed for so many different things to begin with and it’s just making everyone worst than after they take it."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was diagnosed with cellulitis in my elbow. The doctor gave me a shot of bactrim in my bum and sent me home with a prescription for Bactrim 2 times a day. I took it for 4 days and I developed severe anxiety, chilled, over heating, ringing in my ears and full body rash. I was told to stop taking it and then they gave me prednisone which made me depressed and full of rage .This medication is awful."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed Bactrim 2x a day for 30 days, for Staph Infection. However, after taking it for about 7 days, I developed a rash. The rash did not itch, but started at my shoulders and went down to legs. I've now begun taking Benadryl to counteract symptoms. So far, it hasn't helped, rash still there. As far as the Staph infection, it looks a lot better."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I got a skin infection from a spider bite, so prescribed Bactrim. Relatively mild side effects except for sometimes feeling stoned. After my last dose (after 10 days), I experienced the worst side effects, I felt high, nauseous, exhausted, depressed, overly worried, my urination speed decreased, my urine was unusually dark despite drinking tons of water, had chest pains, a cough (note, I also have asthma), a severe headache that lasted over one day, and I felt sick in general. Never taking this again, at this point, it's unbearable and there's nothing more I can do right now other than wait it out"

"I had boils on my butt for 5 years, huge ones, one after another. I went to multiple doctors, tried multiple antibiotics, even did laser treatments. I read in a magazine about some top notch dermatologist in Vegas and went too see him and shared my experience. The Dr said this is really simple and the medication is really cheap. He said you'll either have to take this every day for life or you'll take it when you notice even the smallest blemish on your butt. I take it for 10 days when I notice anything, cysts too! Omg this medication seriously changed my life, I can't ever run out!!!! I have gotten a yeast infection from it occasionally, but there's a pill for that to keep on hand too!"

I've tried many drugs with no luck until they gave me Bactrim. 10 day supply with instant healing and clears it up until I scratch again. No side effects and its a miracle drug!"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have used this medicine. For a stap bacterial infection. Normally 9 years ago it would work rapidly and in 10 days it would be completely gone. But it has come back several times through the years. Now with this last infection I'm having to take double the dose, every 12 hours and I notice it is been hard it to get rid of. I'm hoping I won't get this skin boil again because I'm afraid of the antibiotics are not working 100%. What other options are there to take? But the bactrim is been my saver, til now"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have a large swollen infection believed to be staph infection. This medicine is working well but day 2 I am so nauseous even after taking Zofran 8mg I can not bare the thought of swallowing it or anything else. I've taken this before and did not get this effect. I have many other health issues at the time but I was shocked I reacted this way."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Absolutely the worst medication I've ever been on, and I've been on a lot. If an alternative is offered, take the alternative. Intense thirst, super awful anxiety (borderline paranoia), stomachaches and heartburn out the wazoo, night sweats, rash, dizziness, joint pain, loss of appetite were my symptoms (amongst others). Doc switched me to clindamycin. Not a single side effect! Symptoms gradually got better after dropping Bactrim."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Never ever again will I take this medication. Ended up in ER with what they said was Cellulitis. Gave me Bactrim and Keflex to take. After taking the Bactrim just after one day headaches started. On day 4 I woke up and could not move any of my body as every muscle, joint, neck and head was so sore and aching. Went straight to urgent care and they took me off the antibiotics. Still having severe pains all over and I'm hoping it's just because the medication is still in my system. Seriously do not take this. There are plenty more antibiotics to take than this and going through this also."

Septra DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Today is my fourth day on Spectra DS, 6 more to go. The first 2 days were the worst. My symptoms included nausea, headaches, lightheadedness/dizziness and kind of shortness of breath. I was about ready to call my Dr or Pharmacist to ask if I should stop the medication, but decided to give it a chance since I really need to get rid of my skin infection. Today, I have not felt those symptoms, so far. Hopefully it was my body reacting to the new medication. I find Septra DS to be a powerful/strong antibiotic, I’ve never had symptoms like this with any other. After my complete course, I will re-post to inform if it worked on my MRSA."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I got a staph infection with boil on my arm and was prescribed Bactrim 2x/day for 10 days. Started on 7/3. The large hard painless boil lump did not subside but did not get worse so there’s that, but possibly it was already contained. I admit I did not drink tons of water. 7 days in, on 7/10 I got a huge red dot rash and itchy hive plaques on my inner forearms and upper thighs. Took Benadryl at night but woke up a couple hours in with itchy heels and big hive plaques on my butt cheeks, so couldn't sleep. This went on for days, where a new area would rise and bump up, like all over my back, arms and chest.Aantihistamines helped with the itch a little but the weird skin was still there. I stopped Bactrim on 7/11. Hives stayed until end of 7/15. May come back. Read this drug can lead to Steven Johnsons Syndrome- yikes."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I recently had a boil lanced and was prescribed Bactrim. About 45 minutes after taking the first dose, which two tablets, I began to have a severe itch throughout my body. I tongue, throat, face and hands started to swell. Had to taken to the ER due to an anaphylactic reaction. I found out I am allergic to this type of medication. I am now leery of any type of new medication being prescribed."

"I was prescribed sulfameth for a gross bacterial infection (jacuzzi rash). While on it I experienced headaches, foul gas, loss of appetite, constant thirst, extreme fatigue, dizziness, spotting, diarrhea (should have kept up with my probiotics). On the eighth day I had itchy hives ALL over my body, severe lower back pain, neck & shoulder pain & stiffness. Dr. said to stop medicine & consider myself allergic to sulfa drugs. My original rash had cleared up but so did my two children who didn't have any antibiotics. For me, obviously not worth the side effects."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 10 days. The first day was ok by 2nd day I had a bad case of nausea and itchy. 3rd day nausea, fatigue, flu like symptoms and feeling cold along with insomnia. I stopped taking it and gradually I'm feeling myself. I continued keflex until the infection healed. I won't take it again. It's not worth the misery in my opinion."

"Taken with Cefadroxil twice a day for ten days. Got rid of the visible signs of the infection within one day. I experienced slight loss of appetite but other than that, I didn't experience any side effects. However, on the last day of taking this medicine I broke out in a rash all over my face, neck, arms and chest. I'm hoping that it will go away because now I'm done with the medicine."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have mixed feelings about this antibiotic. I had an infection (a cyst) that was draining badly. After day 1, the pain was gone and no drainage. The side effects are just awful, though. I’d wake up and my fingers would be hurting. I experienced extreme thirst and fatigue. I also had crystals in my urine and was scared to death I’d get a kidney stone, but so far I haven’t. Make sure you drink a lot of water on this medication! Also, avoid alcohol. Ugh, it’s going to be a long time until day 10 on this medication. I hope it helps you. It helped me but at a cost."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had a large abscess on my abdomen and was first put on Keflex. After a few days, the infection was spreading and I now had diarrhea. The clinic doctor switched me to bactrim. I was nervous after reading reviews, but by the next day I saw major improvement. I finished my full course and I feel great. It didn’t even upset my stomach. Obviously some people have allergic reactions to it, but for me it worked wonderfully."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Bactrim healed the abscess infection that I had, but the lethargy was absolutely crippling for me. The first day on it I was driving and was literally falling asleep for 2-3 seconds at a time and almost crashing. Had to go home obviously. Other than that I sides but even with caffeine my body felt like it weighed 1000 lbs and couldn’t keep my eyes open"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I developed a painful staph infection in my nose after a really nasty cold. Bactrim DS cleared it up quickly, but it was harsh on my body. The worst side effect that I had was extreme fatigue. Even walking around the house left me dizzy, out of breath and shaking with exhaustion. Luckily I had the sick days to take off work because I don't think I could have done it. I also had nausea and insomnia but that was mostly just inconvenient. The exhaustion though was debilitating. I finished the entire 10 course because the staph infection was painful and my nose was bright red and swollen. I was scared not to finish the meds. I would definitely ask for something else next time though."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Got a nasty couple of mosquito bites that ended up streaking up my arms. Was prescribed Bactrim for the bacterial skin infection. First few days, my tummy was bad, and not sleeping well. On the 7th day, I suddenly had the worst chills/shivers and low fever. By morning my arms, legs and torso covered in rash. Went to ER and they immediately determined it was a Bactrim reaction. Said the drug is known to have nasty reactions and not sure why I was prescribed it when there are alternatives. If you have an alternative drug that just as effective, not worth the risk."
