"I'm on day 5 of bactrim and it sure is hard work I don't know what makes up bactrim but it's side effect remind me of an opiate! I am 18 and go to the gym everyday and I cannot work out properly anymore. I'm so dizzy and tired, I also have this weird mind fog. I did 7 miles on the bike at the gym today and boy did that take a lot out of me. This medication really sucks. I recommend drinking lot and lots of water."

"Was on 2 doses of Bactrim for 7 days for UTI. After 3 days, the UTI symptoms were much better -- BUT I developed nausea and worse, a dizzy/spinning feeling that made me unable to drive and had to miss work. The dizziness stopped after about 24 hours of not taking drug. Never again."

"Today was the first day I took this medication. Two hours after, I experienced joint pain, blurred vision, back pain, a headache, chills, fever, nausea, cough and sore throat. This was in addition to my already severe urinary tract infection symptoms which I was sent to the ER for the night before, including, severe pain in pelvis, achy back (kidneys). Although, symptoms of a severe UTI can also be fever, pain in the flank (pain that runs along the back at about waist level), chills, and nausea, I believe the medication gave me the additional symptoms. I was fine all day long until around two hours after taking the pill. After about 3 hours, symptoms increasingly went away. I am not sure if the pills are working or if they wore off."

"Avoid at all costs!! I read the reviews and was pretty nervous to try it. Well the bad reviews were right. I was really hoping I would be one of the people with a good experience of this drug. That was sadly not the case. I took ONE pill and within 3 hours I had an extremely high heart rate, was very shaky, very lightheaded, and had shortness of breath. I ended up having to go to the ER to get the bactrim flushed out my system. I’m probably allergic to it, but it’s concerning how many other people have had bad results. Please if you have another option, take the other option. From my experience, I would only take this as a last resort. I that hope your experience with bactrim goes better than mine did."

"I hope my information can help someone! Here's my story I was put on Bactrim for 7 days for a uti. It helped my symptoms but my urine looked off, I finished the course there was blood in my urine but no infection. Uti symptoms back. I went to doc and begged for another course of Bactrim. I had bladder spasms and that urine color came back. I thought I was doomed for IC. weird until I researched and found out that Bactrim can cause bladder spams and blood in urine! I stopped the antibiotic (ask doc first) and decided to detox my liver with tumeric tea(recipe online) currently symptom free!! Not sure why docs prescribe this if side effect is drug in urine could be dangerous if you think blood is from infection! (For me it was dark tea color"

"TLDR; This drug CAN be a nightmare. I finally went to the doctor for my mild UTI. Water just wouldn't kick it. After my first dose, I was immediately thankful that I had gotten it. To my surprise, after taking the first dose, it seemed my infection had spread to my bladder. That night was awful bladder spasms and private area burning like fire. Before I took the medication, I only had slight burning with urination. The next day I pushed water like crazy and thought I was getting better. The meds made me speedy. I was in a fog, but was getting things done. I felt very sickly. I thought, again, that it was a good thing I got the antibiotics because my infection must be super severe to make me this ill. That night I got very short of breath and my heart was pounding. I thought I may have caught covid. I tried to sleep. Through the night I was awake with awful thoughts of death and severe anxiety. The next morning woke with my heart pounding and severe anxiety. I felt like death still."

"I was prescribed Bactrim for 5 days for UTI & did not feel any relief until day 4. But from day 2 - had side effects like burning pain of the scalp with the slightest touch & dizziness with fast head movements. From day 4 on - had fever with chills. Then a couple of hours after the last dose on day 5, developed a skin rash of red dots all over torso, arms & face, the dots grew larger & also spread to my legs & feet by the end of the night. Had to take prednisone & antihistamine to control the rash & take another antibiotics to treat my UTI that Bactrim only partially treated."

"I felt better after 4 days. The reason why I didn't give this medication a 10 is because I experienced back pain while on this medication. Secondly, because I have to take the medicines for 7 days. I would have prefered to take AZO since it's only a 2 day medication but I couldn't because I was allergic to it."

"I took this medicine for an acute bladder infection and the 3rd dose something happened. I went into a panic attack, had shortness of breath, was hyperventilating and my stomach was killing me so I was racing back to the ER and I was hallucinating. I kept seeing people jump out in front of me WHILE driving but there was no one there, it was dark but not too dark but I made it to the ER and I got in right away just from having a panic attack and hyperventilating. I have NO idea where this side effect came from it was the weirdest, scariest thing ever so the Doctor gave me Cipro which makes you feel awful. "

"Day one: shortly after taking Bactrim my stomach hurt so I took it with yogurt. Vomited 5 times during the day. 2nd day: same. Couldn't keep any food down. 3rd day called doc; she said " oh keep taking ". After the most horrible week of continuous vomiting and diarrhea I quit. In 2 weeks I lost 20 lbs. this was a year and a half ago. My stomach hasn't been ok since; doc says an ulcer! Don't take it!"

"Not a good option for me- I will never take again. I was prescribed Bactrim for a reoccurring UTI. I think I may have have taken it before and done fine... but not this time. I took my first pill in the evening and vomited. I didn’t really think much about it. I have the lap-band so that’s not all that unusual. I took my second dose the next morning and started going about my day. I started feeling body aches in all of my joints within four hours with a slight headache. By the afternoon I couldn’t tolerate light. I had a high fever and was short of breathe. I was itchy and some of my skin tags had become swollen and irritated. Every cell in my body hurt like I had been beaten with a bat. It was miserable and I felt like death. Those symptoms lasted all night. The headache was the most debilitating part for me. Kind of afraid to take the new RX after that experience."

"I'm on day 2 of treating a urinary tract infection. I have been trying my best not to puke. I'm so nauseous, tired, and dizzy. I've had an irritation from my UTI it hasn't cleared up yet, so I will have to see what the rest of the week brings. I've never had problems with antibiotics before."

"I was prescribed this medication for a UTI, after 1 pill I woke up feeling nauseous, non stop vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, headaches, insomnia, dizziness, weak, loss of appetite, fever, chills. I am currently on day 3 and will not be taking this anymore, I have zero improvements, which is to be expected after only 3 days, I was told to take 2 pills daily for 10 days. I can’t take the extreme side effects and I don’t see why a doctor would prescribe this, with these many horrible side effects. I thought I have a stomach bug or food poisoning, until I decided to look up the side effects and realized it’s the medicine. My kind was 800/160MG TB. I don’t recommend."

"I took Bactrim and had the worst experience a few hours later. I began to itch all over my body, in my throat and ears and then had horrible diarrhea. After that I started to have itching and burning in the bottom of my mouth, tongue and throat, followed by swelling in my lip and throat with a shortness of breath and feeling anxious. I took Benadryl and went to ER but did not stay due to long wait and drowsiness from Benadryl. Bactrim did ease and relieve my UTI pain quickly but the side effects were even worse. I still symptoms of the allergy - diarrhea and burning in my mouth. I would recommend trying something else. I’ve taken Bactrim before with no issues but this time was horrific. All happened within first few hours of first dose."

"I had a uti for about a month. I was on Cipro for 10 days and Bactrim for 10 days. I went for a urinalysis and was prescribed Bactrim. I have only been taking it for 3 days and am already starting to feel way better. The only downside is that I've noticed that my urine is very smelly and brightly colored. I'm hoping that I feel back to my normal self within the next few days."

"So I had been feeling bad for about a month I finally went to the ER for a UTI, which they said had turned into a Kidney Infection. IV antibiotics, and BACTRIM. They told me that I should be feeling better with in 3 days if not come back. Day 1 bad, day 2 horrible I literally had no energy I was getting weaker and weaker by the second and was becoming very scared. I was so nauseous, I could not think about drinking a sip of water which we all know with that infection that’s very important! I couldn’t sleep, I was having nightmares, I actually got so tired of hearing myself complain to my family. I went to a different ER. They ran test and did a CT, of course this all came back with the antibiotic was working. I know my body it’s been a week and I’m getting worst . And can’t urinate. So I will be going back to the ER today before it kills me. "

"I started the Bactrim prescription two days ago.... I was prescribed two pills a day for 7 days. You can feel the affects within hours and it’s not a great feeling if you have not had a sufficient meal. THIS MEDICATION DOES CAUSE FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS. I have only slept 2 hours total. This is hampering my studies and leaving me anxious. I have never had sleeping issues but here I am.........restless and very paranoid more than half of the night. The short amount of time that I do sleep, I have experienced awful nightmares.. very vivid and almost terrifying to the point of not wanting to blink. This medication is definitely a 0 in my book."

"Had a severe UTI was prescribed Bactrim seemed to help quickly. Then started having horrific headaches and heart burn. I try not to google meds because it’s scary. But the headaches were so bad I googled and saw this drug has high rate of headaches. Shocked and concerned because I have a brain aneurysm. Only have one dose left to take. NOPE not taking it. On my way to my vascular neurologist in Portland."

"I have to share my positive experience here for others. I switched to this medicine after a really bad experience with macrobid and I’m very glad I did. I have had zero side effects and the pill is doing exactly what it’s supposed to! This was a refreshing change from the previous medicine and I hope this helps someone prescribed this."

"was prescribed this and took night before flying back east. 2nd pill during flight. I thought my face was really dry from airplane because it was really itchy. I had no lotion so ignored it. The 3rd pill that night and itchy face felt like wind burn, despite tons of lotion. The 4th pill in morning but face felt swollen and a little numb, especially around lips. So I called the doctor...told to stop taking it and that symptoms should go away next day. It's day 3 after stopping and face is better but still numbness feeling by lips. The half-life for the medicine to leave body should be over by now (well in a few hours). I assume it will eventually go away but will never take this again."

"I suffer with regular UTI's due to a chronic pelvic prolapse I can't get anyone to take seriously. Since having a hysterectomy and estrogen-suppression therapy for adjuvant therapy for cancer the UTI's have worsened. Bactrim does have side effects, but since I can't take Macrobid, I'm stuck with this or Cipro. I'm starting to think I'm developing a resistant strain of infection, but the Bactrim seems to take care of it."
