For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "This is the best medicine I have ever been prescribed, I am fully awake all the time. I have never had a hard time sleeping. I work at a power plant, the only thing I notice, is sometimes my crew mates avoid me, other than that its great."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "My problem was falling asleep while driving and falling asleep in class at nursing school. My doctor prescribed Provigil at 200mg in the morning. The first day was simply incredible. After that it didn't seem to work anymore. So the dosage was raised to 300mg. Same affect. So now I take 400mg only on the days when I have class. That seems to be enough to keep me going on the other days too. Provigil is a very good medicine, and I am blessed enough to have insurance that pays every penny so I am not aware of the price. (And I still have to make sure I get at least six hours of sleep at night.)"

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "I have sleep apnea. Sometimes I wake up feeling like I haven't had any sleep. In a fog so to speak. I have gone to sleep sitting at stoplights on the way to work in the morning. This medication does wonders. I still drink my coffee and it helps to boost the effects. I still get sleepy in the afternoon sometimes but I am able to fight it off much better. Before I couldn't and would go to sleep. It is just too expensive. "

For Narcolepsy "I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 1998. I have been on Cylert, amitriptyline, Ritalin, ambien, and now Provigil. The Provigil is a life saver. I did lose weight on it at first, but have leveled off and have not lost any weight since then. I have taken Provigil for 2 years now. It is not an "upper" and does not make me feel drugged. I take 200 mg in the morning. It does not wake me up, it helps me maintain the wakefulness that I need to get through the day. Without Provigil, I would not have a normal life. I am thankful to have found this drug. I would, however, like a generic to it that would help to offset the exorbitant cost of the drug."

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "Works pretty good but doses only cover 8 hrs. Because my shifts start at 5 am and can end anywhere to 8:30 pm, I have to guess at my 8 hr. Window. When I take 1.5 pills per day, I run out too fast and the pharmacy holds the script. Then I crash for several weeks until refill. Nuvigi and provigil are true wonder drugs but I personally need 250 and 125 simultaneous as we go into a 24/7 society, I need covered at least 12 hrs."

For Narcolepsy "Hello, I was diagnosed with narcolepsy when I was 12 years old but it was discovered during a sleep study in 2010 out at hospital in denver colorado. I was told I had probably had the disorder my whole life. I am 18 years old now and struggle with this disorder everyday. Provigil has helped quite a bit but does have some cons. The lack of appetite will happen anytime you go off the medicine for even a period of 4 days then go back on it. I also have built up a tolerance to the 200mg so it has started to wear off about 4 hours after taking it and is a very hard medicine to get the dosage upped on. Insurance co will fight you the whole way. Also lost a substantial amount of weight when I first started the med."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "Provigil has given me my life back! I have been on 200mg twice a day and the results are great! When I quit teaching and went on my husband's insurance, the insurance company refused to pay for two times a day, so my doctor put me on Nuvigil. I was on it for 6 weeks and I was always tired. I am moving back to Provigil. "

For Narcolepsy "I can't take Provigil daily because it is expensive so I use it on days when I need to accomplish important tasks (shopping, housework, social occasions, etc.). Having suffered from depression since my teens, and although my standard medicines help, Provigil is the only medicine ever that has made me feel "good". I'm so happy my psychiatrist suggested this medication and I hope that it is approved for depression so that insurance companies will cover it."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I started out on 100mg in the morning. I was falling asleep an hour later, so the doctor put me on 200mg. I still was very sleepy, but then the sleepiness would wear off. I drove about 60 miles into town and I was driving very fast and taking risks I would never do normally. It also made me want to buy lottery tickets. The increase of compulsive behaviors is very true with this medication.. I stopped taking it immediately. It was too expensive anyway!"

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "Provigil is one of, if not the most effective medicines I have ever been prescribed. I had never heard of it when my doctor prescribed it. At first, I took 100MG 1-2 times a day. Now after 3 years, I take 200MG 2 times daily. "

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "Used to be active. Over last ten years extreme fatigue has grown to total dominance. Interest, hobbies and life in general just vanished. After extensive testing and use of CPAP, doc put me on 200mg/day Provigil, it was like a teaser not quite doing anything, but 400mg seemed to at least get me mentally more active, but does very little for the fatigue part. My major complaint is hard to describe, but after a couple of days I get a sore feeling in my mouth. I don't grind my teeth, but tend to keep a negative pressure in my mouth causing a ridge to form along the tooth line, and slight but painful sores on the gum here and there, it has to be some form of tension, also affects sleep."

For Narcolepsy "IMHO, modafinil is a good medication. I was originally diagnosed with EDS. Couple years later, MSLT showed REM, blablabla, narcolepsy. I've tried it ALL. best was Dexedrine which is no longer manufactured (as far as I understand). Adderral dropped me down to about 95lbs (even tho I'm a small girl). Ritalin made me super anxious and mute and slow. And provigil was... Just ok and VERY expensive. Stopped the provigil because it cost $500 a month, 60tabs BID 100 mg. I just can't keep paying for it. I went back to Ritalin which is the cheapest of them all cause I thought I was better. Never been more wrong! Not being on the provigil has shown me, I DO HAVE NARCOLEPSY. W/o provigil, I can barely function :-/. But how can I carve out $500 for it?!"

For Narcolepsy "I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy when I was 17 and still in high school. That was about 14 years ago. Out of those 14 years, ten of them have been spent on Provigil. It has obviously worked for me. I take 200mg 3 x a day - One in the morning and two at lunchtime. I haven't had any side effects, other than not being ready for bed at night but that could be me just not wanting to go to bed. All in all Provigil keeps me awake and functioning. Oh, I do agree with everyone about the cost - it's not cheap."

For Multiple Sclerosis "I was diagnosed with MS at the age of 29 and had severe fatigue for 2 years prior. I started on 200mg which was way too strong so I cut the dose into 100mg. I find that if I take it everyday it is not as effective so I just take it when needed which ends up being about 3 times a week (I work full time in a sort of stressful environment). It is important not to "over do it" when on Provigil. I have to say that Provigil changed my life. I am now able to spend time with my boyfriend in the evenings after work and also see friends past 9 PM and not get fatigued. I do feel that when I drink on Provigil I get very emotional...so I try and stay away from drinking. I do like how it helps me mentally focus and also have energy to exercise!"

For Drowsiness "I have been on this medicine for 7 years and cannot imagine life without it. It doesn't seem to work for everyone, but is a lifesaver for me. I had a headache for 3 days when I started it and lost my appetite for a week. After that it was fine. I can get by on 200mg if I need to, but feel tired still most of the day (but won't fall asleep unless I want to). My usual dose is 300mg which keeps me alert and I can't even take a nap if I want to."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I took the first pill this morning. This is the first time in years that I didn't fall asleep in church! I can't wait to go to school Monday morning to see if I get sleepy and doze off in class. Provigil could be one of the best things that ever happened to me!"

For Narcolepsy "I have narcolepsy which went undiagnosed for decades. I don't drink coffee and for years self medicated using caffeine tablets and diet sodas. Finally in desperation started looking for answers via the net, had a sleep study and voila, narcolepsy. Tried Ritalin with no effect, then Provigil and for the first time felt normal and productive. Health insurance would not cover and soon I was paying $800.00 a month for meds. To make matters worse, the Provigil soon lost any efficacy. Ultimately my Doc, reluctantly prescribed Adderall and I have been taking 30mg in the AM and 20 more around lunch. This works ok, but still need caffeine."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I feel that 200 mg is probably best for me but makes me overly "chatty" and nonproductive in that manner, and my heart races. 100 mg does help me feel more awake in the morning but wears off very quickly. I still need a nap when I get home from work."

For Multiple Sclerosis "Provigil helps my Multiple Sclerosis fatigue, but my drug insurance company won't okay it because it's an "off-label" use. My psychiatrist was actually the first doctor to prescribe it, which is also off-label use. It doesn't give me great energy, but at least I don't sleep all day. With depression AND MS I have a double whammy. I definitely know the difference when I don't have it."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "Well if you want to be totally awake, 200mg is the way to go. Doctor started me on 100mg twice a day then moved me to 200mg twice today. Definitely awake now. Sometimes I feel like I should be asleep but just can't. I'll probably go back to 100mg twice a day. At least now, I don't fall asleep anytime I stop moving for 5 minutes."

For Narcolepsy "This medication worked wonders for me. It had a lot fewer side effects than the alternatives like amphetamines and methylphenidate, however modafinil raises histamine levels and I broke out in hives about 2 weeks into taking it. It’s a shame because this medicine worked better than anything else I have tried."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "This is my second day on Provigil 200mg once a day and was hoping for a dramatic change but there was none. I have sleep apnea and CPAP was not enough. Passed out at work and not safe to drive. I can say I am a little more clear and not in sleepy fog. Hoping that it will get better or up my dose"

"I seriously do not know how this medicine is approved as a stimulant. I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and shift work sleep disorder. This medicine in no way kept me awake, alert, or focused. If anything I had a complete opposite affect. I felt some sort of brain fog, my performance at work lagged, and I couldn't keep my eyes open. I had no motivation to accomplish any tasks, or get out of bed for that matter. Along with these negative effects I had headaches and nausea. I would not recommend this as a stimulant or something for sharp cognitive effects. But, maybe more like a sleeping pill. I felt like it was a sleeping pill, but struggling to stay awake after taking it. Tried for 1 week."
