Lorazepam for Anxiety "I am 67 years old. I was prescribed Ativan in the early 1980s. I got addicted and after 5 months was taking 12 a day instead of the prescribed 6. I threw them down the toilet, then ended up at my GP with acute withdrawal symptoms. He did a six-week withdrawal plan. I lost the memory of that 6 months. I also lost a lot of my memory up to that point. As a person who has suffered memory loss and lack of emotion for the last 40 years and my life wrecked, I implore people not to take this drug."

For Insomnia "Lorazepam didn't work for my insomnia, and I found it made me restless and gave me dizziness, with a low energy level. Sometimes I got a headache with it too."

For Anxiety "Works great until it doesn't, and you are pitifully addicted. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, let a medical professional tell you that Ativan (lorazepam) is not addictive or doesn't cause dependency if used 'as prescribed.' This drug is being prescribed completely inappropriately. ALL the prescribing literature says to use it for '2 to 4 weeks.' PERIOD. Regular use after this point could lead to dependency/addiction. The withdrawal is nearly unbearable. Stopping abruptly causes withdrawal that can be deadly. It took me 8 months, using the life-saving 'Ashton Manual,' to slowly wean myself off Ativan after 15 months of daily, physician-prescribed use (0.5 mg TID/3x per day). The interdose tolerance started very quickly, and the need for it skyrocketed."

For Anxiety "I once thought lorazepam was exactly what I needed, as it helped me stop the fight or flight and be able to sleep and crack on with things. I began using it more often, as the times I didn’t take it, my anxiety seemed worse than it had been before. I only went from 0.5 mg prn to having one nightly until that did nothing anymore, so I went up to 1 mg at night. I started moving the time earlier and earlier as the days went on, and something I once took at bedtime started being at 5 pm. This was over the course of a year or so. I would start having panic and fear until I had it. I decided, because of all the stuff about addiction, that I would stop it for a day or two. The first night, I experienced a tonic-clonic seizure. I completely stopped for about 9 months and then decided to try to have it as needed again. I took it for a day or two, then I experienced my second seizure. The seizures slowly ramped up. I now have epilepsy, which I 100% blame on lorazepam withdrawal and addiction."

Lorazepam for Panic Disorder "Stay away from this evil drug. Anyone reading this, this is not to scare you. I have become bed bound, completely scared for my life after a year and a half on this med so far. Yes, it feels amazing when you first take it. You will feel your panic go away, and before you know it, you’re taking it daily. You’ll eventually build a tolerance to it where you need more and more to have the same effect. Then, after so long, you will have interdose withdrawals and have unexplainable symptoms happen to you that no one can explain. Read about other people’s experiences and the horrifying truth about taking Ativan long term. Your life will become a living hell. I’ve developed OCD so severe, I’m scared to leave my house, I’m scared for my life. I’ve lost all hope, and it’s worsened my physical conditions. I’ve been to the ER time after time, test after test, and I’ve come to the conclusion that my strange symptoms can only be explained because of Ativan."

For Anxiety "Please, I beg you, stay away from this awful medicine! I took it for only five days (1 mg the first two days and then only 0.5 mg). I felt awful, foggy, slow, very emotional, and crying a lot. It was hard to function. At first, I thought maybe it's a stressful time in my life, and I just need to follow the dosage. But no, I have taken other anxiety medicine before, but this has a different effect. I am now on day three of horrible withdrawal symptoms that are way worse than any panic attacks I have ever experienced. I have tightness in my chest, foggy and blurry vision, and panic attacks, crazy fatigue, last night my panic was so bad my legs got numb. I have never felt worse in my entire life, it's messing with work and taking care of my child. It is highly addictive. Look at me after one week on a super low dose. I can't imagine how people take this long term. I wish I could file legal action on my doctor and the monsters who prescribe this. Please, BEWARE!"

For Anxiety "This gets a negative 10 from me. I only took it a short while and suffered breakthrough panic attacks, or more like terror attacks. Never, ever again. If you can handle it, good for you. I wouldn't wish my withdrawals on my worst enemy."

Lorazepam for Sedation "My husband went to the hospital for afib. They gave him 4 doses of Ativan a day to calm him down. Well, a few days later, his heart stopped. He has COPD. Giving him Ativan slowed his breathing, and his heart stopped. He went in the hospital walking, talking, eating, no oxygen needed, came out not being able to eat or do anything on oxygen 24/7 now. This drug is dangerous, and the fact that the hospital overdosed him, sending him into cardiac arrest."

For Anxiety "As a male in my late 20s and a healthy BMI, my doctor prescribed a trial of this for treatment of generalized anxiety to test its potential efficacy while we sought to establish which, if any, of the benzodiazepines best treated my symptoms. I was absolutely bulletproof to lorazepam. I tried it on a few separate occasions and felt no effect. I then performed a test. I took a dose (1mg) and waited 45 minutes to an hour. When no effect was experienced, I then took another. I repeated this process over the span of an afternoon. Even so, there was still no effect. I was not sedated, no less anxious, and experienced no cognitive impact or effect on coordination. I can only hope if I ever need a medical procedure requiring sedation, the doctors do not use lorazepam."

For Anxiety "I wasn't the one who had this prescribed, but it was prescribed for my 22-year-old daughter who has a history of ODD, ADHD, acute anxiety, OCD, and autism. More recently, her OCD has completely taken over her life to the point where I'm her full-time carer. So I called in the cavalry. Big mistake. Her GP prescribed 0.5 up to 1 mg of lorazepam. 0.5 did nothing, so we went to 1 mg. Omg. She had what I can only describe as a manic episode coupled with rage and tears and wanting to talk for hours. This was 7 days ago, and it's now thrown her out even more...she could only cope with her OCD to a point. NOW that's gone out the window. She is in a continual loop of emotional dysregulation and doesn't know what to do...e.g., she gets upset now over the smallest thing, and it triggers increased OCD compulsions, and she's stuck, utterly helpless and frustrated and can't stop the intrusive feelings and thoughts. She blames the meds completely."

For Anxiety "I absolutely don't like benzos, lorazepam makes me feel sick! I was given 0.5 as needed, but I did not always take 0.5. I would cut it in half, to me, it makes you feel worse, does not really help that much for what it is prescribed for. I started cutting it in half, will take 0.25 for a month, then cut 0.25 in half for a month, and hopefully I will be off this awful medication. It just makes me so tired and really ill. I felt like I had heat all over my body, itchy. If I could just quit taking it, I would, but I do not desire withdrawals. I have never had anxieties in my life until a nurse practitioner overdosed me on my thyroid medication and whacked my system up?"

For Insomnia "My pharmacy switched to this brand lorazepam, and I started taking it and can no longer sleep. Lorazepam was supposed to be for my insomnia, but this generic of it was horrible. It did not make me tired, it did not turn my thoughts off, it was basically useless, and I had to keep taking it for 60 days because my pharmacy couldn't order the other brand. I don't know how to check this out, but I believe it has too many fillers in it that counteract the medicine. I just got more anxious because I couldn't sleep."

Lorazepam for Anxiety "After an operation, he was great for 3 days. Became upset with nurses waking him for this or that, told them in no uncertain words to leave him alone and was shaking. They assumed he was an alcoholic and he was having withdrawal from not being able to drink in the hospital. On the 4th day and for 3 days later, couldn't talk, move on his own, or walk. Now in rehab, why would you give Ativan to someone who you thought was a drunk."

For Sedation "Was given 2 mg lorazepam prior to tooth extraction and bone graft. They said I'd be really out of it for hours and need a ride home, etc. Didn't feel a thing. Really annoying. I told the perio's assistant afterwards that I hadn't felt any sedation, and she said, 'Well, you came through fine anyways.' So rude. I was tense and digging my nails into my palm. It made me wonder if someone at the pharmacy had switched pills or something. They aren't using nitrous oxide because of COVID. That is what works, not lorazepam."
