For Birth Control "I was on Skyla for about 2 years and had an okay experience. The pros- insertion and removal were quick and easy, just a pinch. I had some cramping following both but in both cases it didn't last longer than a day. Not having to worry about taking the pill. This was the entire reason I got on. It was nice not to worry about it. The cons- Irregular bleeding. Some months I had the heaviest flow which would last 10 days and others I had light sporting for 2 days. It was very frustrating to be inconsistent. Also, body acne. I started breaking out on my back, shoulders, chest, and neck all places I had never had before. Anxiousness during sex, I know the Dr says it can't be moved, but I felt pain/fear when a partner went too deep. Hope I helped!"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla inserted at my 6 week postpartum check up. It’s been 7 months since. The first 3-6 months bleeding was random. I didn’t have heavy bleeding just small amounts but it was annoying. It’s been 2 months that I’ve gotten regular periods. I am hoping my periods stop altogether. But at least for now periods are regular."

For Birth Control "Okay got the Skyla IUD inserted today, i work in a OB/GYN office so i am well aware of the side effects and advantages however i have tried pills and the Nuvaring and they did not work for me. So my best option was trying a IUD.. The insertion process wasn't bad the only thing that was weird was being on your cycle. But the actual insertion of the device took about 30 seconds or less i was not even aware that it was in. The cramping lasted for about an hour it felt like pre- cycle cramping or first day cramping. Not extremely bad just uncomfortable and they went away with some ibuprofen. I would do it again so ladies please review the side effects and remember that everybody is different."

For Birth Control "I went on Skyla on 9.17.14 the experience has been okay just a few side effects I wasn't fully aware of. 1. I gained 10 pounds in one month. I got really odd cravings and was also very hungry all of a sudden. 2. My hair started shedding in clumps but that has slowed down tremendously. 3. I still get cramps maybe not a heavy flow but still crazy cramps during my time of the month. Other then these three. Things have been pretty good."

For Birth Control "I absolutely LOVE my Skyla Iud. I first got it last year in March of 2015 a year after having my daughter. The insertion hurts pretty bad for like MAYBE 10 seconds, but it's totally worth it. I've never felt more myself on a birth control. The pros for me are an increased sex drive (OMG.), I feel way happier, I have light periods, I haven't gained any weight, I don't have crazy acne, and I never notice it! I've actually had 2 IUDS now in the last year because my other one kind of fell out and started to imbed in my uterine wall (which we didn't know until removal. OUCH!!), and I kept having bleeding, but I loved it so much that as soon as I got that one out, I got another! It's totally worth it! I recommended to all my women friends!"

For Birth Control "I've been on skyla for 9 months and this is my second review on this site. The first five months were constant cramps and spotting. The spotting has stopped but cramps randomly come and are intense. I get my period every 2-3 months. I've gained a little weight and have some acne on my back (before I had neither of these) but, skyla works considering I am not pregnant. Other than the side effects I've had it really is great and you don't have to worry about taking any pills. With others I had major weight gain, face acne, and migraines. I definitely recommend. Stick it out through the spotting and cramps and you'll realize it's so worth it!"

For Birth Control "I went for an IUD because I was newly married and we didn’t want kids and I wasn’t doing the best with remembering to take my BC pills. The insertion was so awful that I had to lay down at the doctors office for about 30 minutes after. Within about a month and a half I had uncontrollable anxiety to the point where I needed to seek help and complained to my doctor about it while they claimed all the issues I was having were not IUD related. I had my IUD removed that day and it was the best decision I made regarding IUDs."

For Birth Control "I’m 27, got Skyla February of 2017, so I’ve had Skyla in for over a year, the beginning 6 months were rough! Crazy insane cramps & bloating ! Now periods last 2 days or so & cramps aren’t so bad. BUT the side effects... So before Skyla I weighed 125lbs. Today I weighed in at 135lb. I've always worked out, no red meats & small portion sized food! Nothing has changed.... but some how I just keep putting on weight ! Oh I've also noticed my acne increased ! It’s taken much longer for the acne on my face to go away, it appears, then blemishes & I'm stuck with it for months. I got skyla because I just got married and was not ready for kids ! But this battle of weight and acne is really depressing I’m trying to make the decision of removing it ahead of time, needless to say this IUD does do its job but the side affects are starting to be more long term than anything. Super torn"

For Birth Control "I have had Skyla since March 6, 2019. I’m 27 and I also have pcos. I’m on metformin to help with my pcos symptoms. Before Skyla I had painful periods which were moderate to light flow. I would also spot daily between periods. My insertion was painful even though I was on day 2 on my period. I have never had children before so I think that is why it was so painful. I have a high pain tolerance too. I was very dizzy after and had to lay in my doctors office for a few minutes before I left. I bled for about 30-40 days straight with cramps on and off after my insertion which is to be expected. Now my periods are light to the point I do not need a pad! My cramps are not as painful they are just annoying. My daily spotting has gone away and I’m still losing weight like I was before I had Skyla inserted! I did notice I that I retained my water weight from when they inserted Skyla on my period, but I lost the water weight the next time I got my period. Overall I would recommend Skyla."

For Birth Control "Someone else mentioned this and it’s what pushed me to share my experience using SKYLA IUD. I had my son 2019. Got the SKYLA implanted right away after giving birth. It’s been great at preventing pregnancies. My partner and I don’t use any protection (condoms) and til today I’m not pregnant. NOW, the cons..... ladies. My periods last 12 days. Lately, I get two periods within a month. Randomly spotting in between periods + cramps. Depression and anxiety never been a thing for me prior to my baby and the IUD, but when I am on my period everything just comes over me. My moods are 10x worse. Like someone else here said, there was this strong odor after period I’d get and every time my partner and I would have sex. This is really bad if we are in the mood every time and it just sucks. I might get it removed but now I have no idea what other birth control to try - Skyla has been everything I’ve ever used"

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla put in May 2013. I was the first person my Doc put one in. My period was kind of unpredictable for a few months, which was expected. I started Boot Camp 4 mo later, which makes everyone's cycle crazy, synching with 60 girls. I had my period for a month, then didn't have anything but occasional spotting for a year. Maybe 3 days of spotting every three or four months. It was AWESOME. And no pregnancies in the months leading up to leaving, despite unprotected sex with my fiance. Then, a year after my period stopped, it started again. Now, after 2 years, I spend 2.5 weeks on my period and 2.5 weeks off. Talking to doc soon because this is so frustrating."

For Birth Control "I've taken oral birth control pills for years after getting an on call job I was no longer to take them at a scheduled time. I'm 23 and sexually active and would love to wait until I'm ready for my own family. Insertion for me personally felt like a hardcore cramp , one like no other I had felt before but it was over quickly. One bad part! Hours after I had been home I went to go outside and suddenly felt nauseas, got extremely dizzy with blurred vision I thought I was about to pass out! Supposedly its normal but it was still terrifying. After the first day I have had no other symptoms (spotting ,moodiness, etc ) and have to say I love my Skyla. Its worry free birth control and gives me peace of mind for the next 3 years!"

For Birth Control "Don’t do it. I can’t believe I let the doctor talk me into getting Skyla; I originally went in for the copper but she talked me out of it because I’m 17 and I haven’t had any kids. It has the same hormones as the nexplanon basically: progestin. When I had the arm implant a year ago, I had it for 7 months and attempted suicide, had hair loss, and my acne returned (even after being on accutane for 6 months), and I gained 15 pounds. I took a break from birth control and switched up to Skyla and it is the dumbest decision I have ever made. It’s only been a month and I’m always crying as I can feel the depression already sneaking its way back, whenever I comb my hair or run my fingers through I get about a dozen strands coming out and my acne is, once again, horrific. If you are already on Skyla and going through this, you are not alone."

For Birth Control "I'm writing this review for all of the women skeptical of IUDs (since I was one of them). I became pregnant in November of 2015 after a condom failed for my boyfriend and I. We were not in a place to have a child, and terminated the pregnancy (which was something I NEVER thought I would do, so please don't judge). We decided we needed a better form of birth control (had been on the pill with bad side effects), and chose skyla. The insertion happened the first day of my period and was a BREEZE. A slight pinch and that was it! I've had period cramps that were worse! Slight cramps the first two days but ibuprofen took them away. It's been great since! PLEASE dont let reviews scare you away! They almost did for me, but I'm glad they didn't!"

For Birth Control "I'm 31 years old, no children ever and recently got the skyla. Prior to getting skyla inserted, I came on here to read the reviews and wish I didn't because it definitely scared me, but thankfully, my obgyn was great and explained everything to me. Not to mention, she numbed me prior to inserting the skyla and informed me when I would feel the most amount of pressure which helped A LOT! There was some mild cramps during the first month but since the month has passed, I've been feeling great - no nausea and no weight gain. There's some mild cramping, which I never had before but no periods. So for me, it's working out great and realized only your body can tell you if it's good or not- and not by others experience."

For Birth Control "I FINALLY GOT IT TAKEN OUT AND I FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW PERSON!! I had no pain getting it out and I cried from relief from how much better I immediately felt. Back on the pill but I would NEVER recommend this to ANYONE!!! I don't care about the effectiveness, the side effects were NASTY AND ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE. So bummed I wasted a year on this crap!"

For Birth Control "The first 3 months of my 3 years on Skyla I bled everyday. It was annoying at first but you just have to be sanitary. I get really bad migraines it came every 6 months and would last 2/3 days. It only came 3x. The migraines would be horrible but I just sucked it up and waited until they went away if it was too much I would buy OTC drug for migraines and it would work. I would sometimes get lower back aching and that meant I was going to get my period. My period also did stop coming I hardly even get my period now. By this April of 2020 will be my 3 years mark and I plan to go for round 2 :)"

For Birth Control "Before I got my IUD I researched a ton about what to expect during and after the procedure. All the reviews had me terrified of the procedure, saying it was the most pain they've ever had, that they fainted, that they were bleeding for months afterwards, etc. DO NOT listen to these. Every experience is incredibly personal and will be different for every single person! The procedure itself felt like a slightly more extreme period cramp, and then for the next few days I had mild cramps that were on and off, nothing different from a normal period. I have some spotting but it is very tolerable and manageable. Overall, this has been an extremely effective contraceptive for me."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla on November 1, 2018. I honestly love it. its only been a few months but its the best birth control i've ever used. I had been on the pill for years and I wanted something I didn't have to worry about. I tried nexplanon and hated it, I bled almost every day for a year and a half. The insert for Skyla was not bad at all. It was just like cramps. The Nurse Practitioner who inserted it was really good as well. I will admit that I had some anxiety going in, but she was so professional and talked to me about my concerns. I honestly believed that since I became relaxed, the insert wasn't as painful. I drove myself home from the appointment too. My periods are lighter now, I really don't use tampons anymore, even pads feel a bit too heavy, usually a panty liner will do the trick now. My sex drive came back too. The pill took that away from me lol. Ladies, don't be afraid to try it, if it doesn't work for you, you can always get it removed."

For Birth Control "I am 28, no kids, never pregnant. I was on the pill up until last year when the docs discovered a blood clot in my lung after a surgery. After that was cleared up I was told I couldn't go back to pills. My only options were IUD or condom with a douche. I chose IUD with huge reservations because I didn't know about Skyla yet and I heard horror stories about Mirena. My OB/GYN did some research and found Skyla for me. The insertion was KIND OF painful. It was like a very strong period cramp for 10mins then a dull ache for a week afterwards. Heating pad and ibuprofen! I had bad spotting/light period for the first 3-4mos but since then I have not had my period. I MAYBE get 1 little spot once a month. Getting Skyla was a great decision!"

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla inserted 4 days ago, I was so nervous to go through with it after spending countless hours reading other people experiences. The doctor told me she would stop at any point if the pain became too much to handle. The whole procedure lasted maybe 5 minutes at most. I did not feel a single thing and actually had to question if she truly finished. I did not experience any cramps for the first 12 hours but once they kicked in they were no different than period cramps, a little ibuprofen here and there and everything was fine. Bleeding has ranged from light to barely even spotting but my period tends to last a week so it may just be from that. So far I am very happy with my decision to get it. DON'T LET THE BAD EXPERIENCES WORRY YOU!"

For Birth Control "Hey ya'll! I wanted to share my experience since I looked at these religiously prior to going. I got Skyla yesterday around 2 o'clock. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen around 1:15, prior to my appointment. When I went in the entire experience was an absolute breeze. She walked in, told me the risks, set up, and inserted Skyla, all within 7 minutes. I felt a slight period type cramp when she used the sound to measure my uterus, and then a another cramp when she inserted Skyla. The cramp on both occasions did not last longer than thirty seconds. I felt absolutely fine after and even went out to dinner and to a professional baseball game! Everyone is different but don't worry too much - you'll do great!"

For Birth Control "I am writing this review for the sake of all women who are iffy on this product. I was apprehensive to skyla ONLY because of what I read online. Despite my doctor assuring me this was the best option for me, I still was not 100% on skyla. I am one month post-insertion and I am so happy I decided to go with Skyla. I am 19 years old, and I have struggled with birth control since it was present in my life. I cannot be on the combined pill due to the migraines with aura (visual changes) I get and I struggle with acne so the POP pill is not for me. I decided to go with skyla and I'm very pleased. Insertion (for me) was a bad cramp that lasted no more than 5 seconds. Spotting/cramps continued for about a month after but now I'm good."
