For Borderline Personality Disorder "I took a small dose of haloperidol along with a myriad of strong medication I was overprescribed by a reputable, top psychiatrist about a year ago. It made me severely agitated, impulsive and deepened my self-loathing to the point where I tried to commit suicide. It was my worst (and hopefully last) attempt. I lost consciousness and wouldn't be here had someone not found me...and I am now in a healthy enough place to say I'm so so so grateful to them. Please be careful with this one."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "Was in for laparoscopy procedure and was very nauseous after the surgery. Initial treatment with Zofran wasn’t helpful, so they then injected Haldol to relieve the emesis and nausea. It made feel drowsy and restless at the same time. I can’t tell if I’m thankful it helped as an antiemetic or if I absolutely hate it because of the restless legs, anxious, crawling out of my skin feelings. It made resting and sleep very difficult after a reallllllly long day at the hospital. My advice, see if doctor has exhausted all other medications/solutions first! The side effects may make you regret taking it."

For Tourette's Syndrome "I was on haloperidol for 10+ years. It is NOT supposed to be a long term medicine. (But apparently my doctor at the time didn't care.) I switched doctors and they weaned me off of it. Although I still went through withdrawals because I became dependent on it. I also developed cervical dystonia because of haloperidol. (Cervical dystonia is a very painful condition where your neck muscles move involuntarily, causing your head to twist to one side. It can also cause your head to uncontrollably tilt forward/backward.) And now I have to get 10-12 shots in my neck every 3 months to help with the pain. So just be careful when prescribed this medication!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this drug years ago after being found homeless and brought onto a psych ward. A nurse had walked into my room as I was half asleep and said "Here, take this. It will help you feel better. " and handed me a pink pill with some water. I took the pill and went back to sleep and two hours later upon waking, I found my jaw going into spasms and contortions and my tongue hanging out of my mouth like a dog's. It was impossible for me to speak for 2 hours having no control of my tongue. It was awful. I later found out the pill that i had been given was Haldol."

For Mania "It was great while I took it. Made me feel "normal". Took 5mg of this medication for 3 months and was pulled off of it cold turkey because I developed a jaw tic. Well, two weeks later I couldn't eat without throwing up. Went to the hospital and they did normal tests and said I was fine. Two days later I had obsessive swallowing, dysphagia, and dry mouth which lasted until now (1 1/2 weeks) went to urgent care and found out I went from 133 pounds to 116 in two weeks. Not to mention suicidal thoughts MUCH worse than before I ever started taking medication. Been drinking ensure and just started to be able to eat pureed food. DO NOT GO COLD TURKEY."

For Psychosis "I can say that until my PA figures out a dosage, for it to work with my system I will never be healed. I first stated at 1 in the morning. That didn't work so I was taking 1 in the morning and one at bedtime. That was to strong for me. So the next thing I did was to cut them in half. That didn't work because half is not enough. Still had hallucinations. If anyone has any clue as to what I can do, leave a message."

For Psychosis "I had to play around with the dosage but I finally found the right dose. I took the 10mg and it worked but I couldn't stop moving around and had restlessness. My psychiatrist gave me benztropine for the shaking and it stopped. But for some reason he took away the benztropine. So my psychiatrist gave me 5mg and I still had the moving around and restlessness. So finally I was given the 2mg and for some reason not only did it stop my psychosis but the restlessness and moving around had stop."

For Psychosis "I was on this medication haloperidol for psychosis for 3.5 years. It prevented me from having another episode, and I was still using street drugs. I still had paranoid delusions about my partner but at least I didn’t have a psychosis. Side effects only higher cholesterol and increased prolactin levels. All and all the medication wasn’t too bad."

For Nausea/Vomiting "An ENT Doctor put my 79 year old mother on 1 mg of Haloperidol twice a day for 90 days. We di d not know she was taking it. She stopped going out to do normal errands, she was in bed a lot, she was losing weight, she had become a zombie, she has no appetite. She was put on it because she was burping a lot and had tried 3 other medications. She has had all kinds of tests to figure out why she was burping all the time but doctors have not been able to figure it out. This ENT Doctor is out of town but his associate told us this was probably too high of a dosage for an elderly and recommended he get us a new prescription for .25 mg twice a day, meaning she was taking 4 times the amount. We took her off it, I just hope I get my real mom back."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given a shot of haldol for Gastroparesis related symptoms at the ER. It caused immediate and severe agitation and restlessness. The worst sensation of my life. I wanted to rip my skin off. They gave me Benadryl to try to combat the reaction. It temporarily lessened the symptoms, but took over two days to get out of my system. I will NEVER take this medication again."

For Psychosis "Except for a little weight gain, I feel less nervous yet I still experience delusional thoughts kind of OCD type. I am also only on 1mg which is very low, and I plan to ask the doctor to take me off the Zyprexa and increase my Haldol to at least 5mg daily."

For Psychosis "My wife had a drug reaction in a hospital to the drug reglan injected into her iv on Aug 3.2017 that blew her brain to pieces. A week later she was diagnosed as bipolar and given the drug halperidol in pill form to treat periods of confusion and agitation. At that time, she could not take it. Even the smallest doses made her almost comatose. Five years later, two months after the second Pfizer covid shot from her HMO, my wife completely forgot the house we have lived in for twenty two years..the house that has been in her family 70 years. I thought she had had a stroke. Took her to the hospital that checked everything, did not wash her for three days and returned her to me still confused. I pulled out the five year old halperidol prescription and started her on one 0.5 mg pill per 24 hours. Instant improvement. She's up to three 0.5 mg dose in 24 hours. My wife's HMO seems determined to ignore us. I just want my wife better. Low dose pill form is working well."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Psychosis "I was on 150 mg of haldol and I gained weight, I stuttered and I feel off-key and debilitated as well as suffering from erectile dysfunction as a result of taking haldol. It's got a catchall use for schizophrenia and unfortunately if you are labelled as something it can be hard to shake the label and so I am not actually schizophrenic but am treated like that and given haldol which in turn is something of a pointless med for me, just slows everything down, found myself chewing my tongue sometimes..."

"I witnessed a doctor recommend and give instructions to inject Haldol without a diagnosis. Experienced extreme agitation, pacing, tremors, insomnia, depression, weight loss, confusion, and overall poor quality of life. Nothing could really be done except give some beta blockers and wait 30 days. We even had to move to more remote area for the time being to minimize contact with other people. This is because the behavior is alarming and uncontrollable. He also had trouble speaking during this time. He does not have Tourettes! My friend doesn't have anything that would need to be medicated for except now depression. I read a similar experience. This drug should not be used."

"I was given 5mg through an IV of haldol for panic attacks on a Saturday night around 4pm Immediately felt like I needed too crawl out of my skin, I came home after the hospital let me leave and I could not stay still I felt so agitated and uncomfortable. I literally felt crazy l finally fell asleep. I was out 7pm till 7am the next morning when I woke up I wasn't able to open my eyes and I had a dying desire too pace back and forth later that night Sunday. I was able too open my eyes again but all day Monday I paced back and forth non stop. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I had TERRIBLE anxiety, waking up at 4 am unable to sleep at all and could not sit still. My mind was racing 100 miles an hour it's now Wednesday and the side effects are finally starting too wear off. I've been drinking a lot of water taking vitamins, B6, C and D hoping it leaves my system soon. This drug should literally be illegal. It is absolutely terrible and should not be given to anyone."

For Psychosis "When I started this medication for my first psychotic episode two years ago it really helped, delusions went away. I was taking a low dose for maintenance, around 10 drops (2mg/ml), which is about 1mg. I didn't have side effects other than lack of motivation. Then after 2 years the doctor said it was safe to stop the treatment, but some months later I had yet another psychotic episode. This time I am taking 20 drops, and it is making me restless and a bit anxious in the stomach. My motivation is really low, so I find difficult to start things on my own, my initiative is almost non existent, so I only do the basics in my life. Probably I will have to take antidepressants too to help with the motivation/initiative, but I haven't started yet."

For Tourette's Syndrome "Been on Haldol since 74, age 17. Side affects were mostly weight gain and dry mouth. Was at one point taking more than prescribed( on my own, no intent of ODing) which made my lethargic, certainly not up to my usual level. The increase didn't increase, nor decrease, my tics. Seems to have 0 effect. I'm still on Haldol currently( Dec'16) and naturally under Drs care. My physicians in my past, although newer meds are available, keep my on Haldol and montitored, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Honestly, since TS tics wax and wane, I'm not fully aware that the drug at current dosage is helping. I don't try to go without ever, because if tics get worse( my understanding is out of system in a matter of days), I'm just not willing to endure tics"

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER with persistent vomiting that I had already tried Zofran and other medicines for without any luck. After getting a dose of IV Haldol I stopped throwing up and was able to put down some water. I still had some lingering nausea when there was too much motion, but overall I would count it very successful. I didn't experience any negative side effects that I'm aware of."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given haloperidol in ER thru IV. Within seconds I got a hot flash like the menopause kind and then I felt like I couldn't sit still. They wouldn't give me anything to reverse it. Stayed like that for 2 hrs then they discharged me. It is 14 hrs later and still feeling agitated and restless. I hope it stops soon cause benadryl is making it worse."

For Psychosis "I take this for psychotic features from bipolar 2. This hasn't been to bad. I take the concentrate liquid as the pills are not available to order in my area. I can say the only thing I don't like is the sedation part (mild; I try to fight it but cant after awhile) also I've seen a small, very small difference in my weight even though I still workout and eat correctly ( could very well be my depression and missing those pills) everyone's body reacts differently, its worth a shot."

For Aggressive Behavior "Haloperidol took my emotions away I have got no feelings of love, joy, happiness, hunger. This drug takes your personality away. All I can say I hope my feelings come back because when I see people laughing, joking and having inter-actions with each other I hope one day I get it back. To me I think it's a bad drug. Maybe I was on it too long."

For ICU Agitation "This drug was administered via IM injection quickly, with no Benadryl, in the ER. I had surgery to remove pelvic mesh and was unable to pee at home. All I wanted was to be knocked out with some sedative or put into a coma because I couldn't stand one more second of the nightmare I was enduring from the Haldol. I have had opioid and benzo withdrawal before. This was worse than both of those. They would not give me pain medication, so I thought at first that might be the issue, but it wasn't. Shortly after they gave me the Haldol, I began to have icy/hot sensations in my chest and into my arms. I felt trapped in a nightmare. Like I was in a small space underground, unable to get out. Felt like I had to get out of there, but was being held against my will. The ability for the brain to relax, calm itself, go to sleep was utterly gone, and all that was left was shear terror with no end in site. My body was at war with itself as to what to do. Any class of drugs like prochlaporazine should be avoided"

For Psychosis "I went to the ER to be seen for severe stomach pain and nausea, that's when I was sent back to my room and was given a shot of haldol in my arm. The first 10 minutes were fine except I felt very sleepy, then I felt suddenly anxious and restless. I wanted to get out of the hospital immediately and I mentally felt different. I didn't feel like myself and had a very short attention span (almost none), I was generally uncomfortable and felt like it was torture. DO NOT TAKE THIS! I don't know what is in it, but it made me feel horrible and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone."
