"Started on 50 mg for a week and didn't feel anything except loss of appetite and anxiety. Doctor said that was not a therapeutic dose and upped my dosage to 100mg. Four days into the 100mg dose and I am a wreck. I had bad panic attacks, extreme nausea, and the shakes. I did throw up as well. While I suffer from thought compulsions, I also deal with generalized anxiety disorder. This did not help at all and made me worse. Now I am back to 50mg and working my way off... horrible experience and feel sick. If you are looking for an anxiety med, DO NOT use this!"

"I have been on and off antidepressants for the past 17 years. Whenever I started feeling better after 6 months, I would take myself off the medication. I'm not sure why I kept doing this, as my depression usually returned after 6-12 months of stopping. Recently, after a few years without medication, I started experiencing extreme anxiety and panic attacks at a far worse level than I'd ever had in the past. My local GP put me on Fluvoxamine 50mg. The first 2 weeks were tough, as it always gets slightly worse before it gets better. However, in the 3rd week, I noticed a huge shift in my mood and immense relief from the anxiety. I am now on 100mg and finally feeling normal! It has stopped my constant ruminating thoughts and worries, and I can think clearer and more positively. I now realize that anxiety has been the root cause of my depression all these years. This medication has changed my life for the better."

"I've been taking 50 mg of fluvoxamine 8 days. It works amazing for getting the horrible thoughts I experience daily to leave my mind - I can just turn it off & feel normal & calm. If it didn't have so many negative side effects, it would be the perfect medication for me. I've been experiencing headaches, nausea, lack of motivation, trouble getting up in the morning, lack of concentration, it's completely killed my sex drive & it make me feel almost wired at bed time , before I crash into a drug induced sleep. It also makes me feel constantly hungry, even after a large meal. If I were to keep taking this I think I'd become obese. I rated it a 3 because it worked for what I needed it for. Disappointed it wasn't for me:("

Luvox (fluvoxamine) "I have suffered from panic attacks for 12 years and was recently diagnosed with OCD. My doctor prescribed my Luvox (20mg). I was very hopeful that this drug would help with all the worrying I do. On day 4 of the medicine, I had panic attacks for HOURS. I’d have one and then 10-15 minutes later would have another. I ended up calling 911 because I thought I was dying (it’s been years since I had panic attacks as bad as this). I also ended up at the ER were the panic attacks would not stop. I will not take another pill of this."

"honestly, I don’t think this is a good medicine for me. At first I was on 50 mg twice a day. Then moved to around March 22 to 100 mg twice a day and I feel worse. My depression and anxiety is still terrible. I low key hallucinate and it’s scary. I have a hard time eating, and I feel paranoid sometimes. I’m always tired and have no motivation. I barely sleep, my mouth is dry all the time, head hurts and I’m constantly overheating. I don’t feel like myself anymore. If you feel like a medicine isn’t working for you it’s okay to say no on upping the dosage and to take a break or change to a different medicine! It didn’t work for me and that’s okay. Now I’m weaning off of it and I hope I feel normal again."

"I've taken this med for a little over two years now, along with Clomipramine. It really helped a lot in the beginning, relieved general anxiety disorder and many ocd symptoms. You have to give it a chance, meaning the first few weeks you may feel sick and emotional lows but it really helps after a while. It cured my GAD and again it helps my OCD but not 100 percent. Still better than the previous meds I tried like Zoloft and Paxil, those never helped me. I'm currently still on it but I may try another med because it does make me sleepy often now. If nothing else helps with ocd like this med then will stay on it. I'd recommend trying it."

"I have have OCD and anxiety disorder since I was 13. Started Fluvox when I was 19 and the first day taking it the side effects immediately hit me. I got serotonin syndrome and was hallucinating. My pupils were huge, I felt so loopy and depressed. Gave me a panic attack and made me so paranoid...."

"fluvoxamine worked great with my anxiety but took awhile to work. It helped me rationalize my thoughts better because it took away the physical symptoms of anxiety and stopped my panic attacks. However, the memory loss and lethargy that came with it affected me so much that I decided to stop. It would occasionally cause brain fog and dissociation."

"So I was put on this medication for my anxiety and depression (as well as possible OCD). Transition from my last antidepressant to this one was a nightmare. I had really strange side effects. And now that I've been on this for about a month, rather than obsessing about things I just don't care. Especially regarding my school work, I've been procrastinating a lot lately and haven't even turned in some of my work, which is stressing me out... I don't know, we'll see how this continues I guess"

"This medicine has worked great for me so far. I have been on it for 2 weeks. I missed one dose and had an atrocious headache but it went away as soon as I took the missed dose. I am taking 100 mg - 50 in the morning and 50 at night. I do not nor have I ever slept well so I do not see or feel any difference. I am so much calmer and I am able to find a bit of joy in the things that would really irritate me before. My nightmares are not as bad but still happening. I have lost 2 pounds per week which is not an issue with my being 60 pounds overweight. I also take Abilify. One of the two causes me to be extremely "jumpy" I am startled easily."

"Started on LUVOX (brand name) in '96. LUVOX (brand name) is not made anymore. Switched to generic flumoxomine (Apotex brand in 2000. ) Worked great. Stopped working COLD as of late 2013. Wrote FDA, Solvay tested my prescription, said nothing wrong. All the other generic fluvoxamines (5) I've tried are worthless. Apotex must have changed its composition of the drug ie. filling, binder ingrediants. Filed reports with FDA & Solvay (parent of Apotex) Solvay wrote back, "Nothing is wrong." Drug is totally ineffective on me now, as are all the other fluvoxomine generics I've tried. Only side effect was a bit of drowsiness. Have had to abandon taking this drug, and am in the midst of trying other drugs."

Luvox (fluvoxamine) "I’m on fluvoxamine for depression. It helped with it and with my bad thoughts but it gave me severe sexual problems so I'm forced to switch. It only started to be helpful after a month and also it can give you sleep problems and anxiety (just at the start, like the first 2 weeks). But the sexual problems are still there even if my depression has been better, but still not cured. So I’m switching now."

"My doctor put me on this medication because she was unwilling to give me Xanax or any medication in its category for my anxiety. 5 days ago I started taking this medication 50 mg at night. Second day I noticed a numb feeling in my mouth and trouble falling asleep. 3rd day I noticed an unwillingness to get off my recliner. I didn't want to do anything. By the 4th day I was having cold sweats and throwing up ! So sick to my stomach which made me more depressed. No thanks! I threw it in the garbage and called the pharmacy to refill my lexapro."

"I started 25 mg with no issues, but have gone up to 50 mg after 2 weeks. At 50 mg my anxiety has more than doubled. My panic is off the charts, and I can’t sleep. I’ve been at 50 mg for 2 1/2 weeks and tend to feel worse by the day. I’ll be discontinuing this medication. It did help my obsessive thoughts after 2 weeks, but the increase in panic is unbearable for me. It was not sedating for me at all."

"The life saver for those suffering from all kinds of anxiety, stress and OCD. I was suffering from hyperventilation triggered anxiety and vice versa which caused high burden pvcs due to excessive levels of anxiety for approx. Three years after starting this drug I experienced reduction of symptoms from very next day but for magic to happen you have to take it for at least 6 months varies from person to person. Only side-effect I felt was drowsiness during work which can be managed of course a small amount of sacrifice for a exceptional benefit"

"I took this med for a week before I decided it wasn’t worth it for me. I have generalized anxiety disorder and depression. My doctor prescribed this off label as we wanted to try one more SSRI before switching to something else and my experience was not pleasant. The worst side effect I experienced was insomnia. There were two nights where I only slept for 1 1/2 hours and was sooo incredibly fatigued and muscles aches the whole time I took it. I also experienced worsened anxiety and rumination almost every day and tremors as if I had the flu."

Luvox (fluvoxamine) "So I loved this at first - did wonders for my depression and anxiety but then as soon as I increased dosage I had INSANE constipation and stomach issues. Talking 3-4 days and intense bloating, hard to concentrate or be at work, etc. When I would skip a dose to fix my stomach I’d have a bad headache for half the day. Just a lose lose on everything but my anxiety and depression. Now will be going off sadly. Watch out for stomach issues!"

"I have very bad OCD. Specifically, health anxiety and intrusive thoughts. I went from 50 mg to 100mg in about 4 months. My panic about my health, and my insane intrusive thoughts literally disappeared. Luvox made me feel normal. But I became homeless after crappy life events for 3 months, so I had to wean myself off. I knew I couldn’t afford it in that time period. Now that I’m no longer homeless, I actually just now took a 100mg tablet from my leftovers pill bottle from July of this year (2021). Side effects: I’m tired as anything!!! Lol. Definitely makes me very drowsy and relaxed. I was having panic (ocd caused) right before I took the pill. Definitely try this out if you have bad OCD!"

"Used in low dose to treat anxiety. Works well. No known significant side effects for me. It has drastically helped me manage my anxiety. Makes me a little sleepy so I take at night right before bed. However sometimes it can have the opposite affect on energy levels."

"I started taking Luvox since April 2021. Started with 50mg and gradually increased to 150mg now. I can only sleep for long hours now. But other than that, I still don't feel any difference to my anxiety and my depressive mood. In fact it gets worst week by week. I was consuming Pristiq previously for nearly 2 years n I stopped taking it last year. It was very effective and it worked for me."

"I had trouble with ALL anxiety medications that medical doctors and psychiatrists have tried on me and refused to take any medications. I explained this to the doctor at the Maryland Health Department, where I had just started seeking treatment. This INCREDIBLE doctor recommended a genetic test to see what medication is okay with my system. Why this wasn't done for the years that I complained, I'll never know. Turns out that I am only genetically compatible with sertraline, and even that wasn't perfect. It was explained to me that Fluvoxamine is the same line of drug as sertraline but helps with the compulsive thoughts I struggle with. At first, I thought it was a god send. Then I started having severe panic like I've NEVER experienced in my life, so, I stopped taking it. I believe it was reacting with another drug I was on. I've been off it for two and a half months now, and I'm thinking I was better on the drug. I hope my story helps others."

"I was recently changed from 50 mg of Luvox to 100mg CR and within two days, I have had to urinate so often that I went to the doctors thinking I had a UTI. No, it’s an uncommon side effect of Luvox. That along with the GI issues means off this medicine and onto the next."

"Tried it for 3 weeks after citalopram. I liked citalopram a lot, but had some unwanted side effects. Unfortunately, fluvoxamine has much worse side effects for me. Nausea/vertigo all day to the point where I'm ineffective at anything. I'm stopping fluvoxamine and going back to citalopram"
