Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Had some absolutely crazy bad stomach pains that felt like I was having a heart attack and was hospitalized a couple of times in the lead-up to trying this drug. Have always had reflux but always kind of ignored it. Sometimes I'd wake up choking as I'd refluxed into my lungs while asleep. First I started this drug as prescribed, taking 40 mg every day, and it instantly took away problems. But being a strong believer in not taking drugs if possible, I stopped taking it every day. Now I only take it when I actually feel burning, which might only be once or twice a month. And within minutes, I feel better. Not saying to follow my lead, but this works for me. I think using this drug as I am and getting the relief I'm getting is absolutely wonderful."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I started taking omeprazole 20 mg 25 years ago, then continued with esomeprazole and Nexium, no stop. I can’t quit, heartburn is coming back immediately, even taking only water, no food. With Nexium, I’m able to eat almost all food without heartburn. Regardless of potential side effects, the doctor advised not to try to quit. My acid reflux is not treatable, but Nexium works perfectly for me. No side effects or discomfort in over 20 years of my experience."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "in 2014 I was diagnosed with H. Pylori which was eradicated successfully. 2019 diagnosed with chronic gastritis I was prescribed Nexium 40gm for the 1st month and 20gm for 5 months. It worked so well that I started eating things I was not able to eat before. I was so happy until I developed side effects that I never thought were from nexium. They were stomach ache, diarrhea, constant nausea feeling, pain on my back and between shoulder blades, head ache that would come on from little sound as someone coughing, extreme fatigue. When my periods started I had nightmare cramping, I was vomiting, runny tummy all day, and excruciating pain. I couldn't sit, lie down or walk. I was literally rolling on the floor with pain and I never suffered from period pains before. I decided to go off it. I am on my first day the stomach pain and the shoulder pain subsided, the fatigue almost completely gone. I had little diarrhea and tummy ache. I am hoping all this will be gone and will go back to normal. PPIs are a bitter sweet pills"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "I've been on Nexium, 40 mg, one per day for about 4 years. I don't really watch my diet like I should, but I've had no issues at all, never any throat burn like I had prior to Nexium. I do have Barrett's and should be more careful about the foods I eat, but I don't eat a lot of anything, that helps. I do drink coffee sometimes, tomato-based sauces, etc. I don't seem to have side effects from Nexium."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "I’ve had Barrett's esophagus for ten years, and of all the meds prescribed, Nexium for Barrett's esophagus has been the only one that saves me from horrible acid reflux. When insurance refused to pay any longer, I attempted to treat my disease myself with many supplements for GERD. I ended up with a severely inflamed esophagus and a related stricture the doctor dilated at the time of endoscopy. He informed me I must return to Nexium with no substitutes indefinitely, as it is protecting me from getting cancer of the esophagus due to having Barrett's. The inflammation healed right away once I was back on Nexium."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I was prescribed Nexium after 4 months of trying every other prescription med out there, following 4 months of severe GERD/silent reflux symptoms. Within the first 2 days of taking Nexium, the lump feeling in my throat started to go away. I am taking 40 mg of the TEVA generic Nexium, and so far, I feel way better. Hopefully it lasts. I was on Dexilant before, 60 mg once a day, and it gave me about 50% symptom relief. Nexium is the best PPI I have tried for sure, and I would recommend it to anyone."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "I was on Nexium for more than 4 years, and the Barrett's esophagus that I have has been stable. I believe that Nexium has healing properties, but change in diet has to come with it. My husband's insurance now refuses to pay for it because it is supposedly for short term."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "Used Nexium for over 14 years. You need to stop taking this medication or any acid reducer medication 3 days before use of any antibiotics. IF you do not then you can get a infection that is quit dangerous called Clostridia Difficile or C. Diff which gives you diarrhea and paralyzed colon! The bacteria eats away at the lining of the Large Intestine until you bleed out, have diarrhea, and colon cancer and/or polyps! Use only for 3 days and stay off until you start having symptoms again; then use it again for 3 days, (72 hours) as that is how long your colon needs to regenerate! STOP! Then repeat! If you have trouble sleeping use Benadryl intermittently!"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "When I first started taking nexium for Barrett’s esophagus everything seemed fine. Then after having a gastric bleed, which they found cancer cells, I went through 6 weeks of radiation and chemo treatments. The good news is the cancers gone. But during that time the doctor doubled my dose of nexium to 80 mg. I take it as 40mg twice a day. So after 6 months of nexium treatment, I mysteriously had a spine fracture, recurrent sinus infections, severe stomach pain and inflammation. I couldn’t figure out what was happening, so I researched nexium and found it can weaken the bones and cause spine fractures, also contribute to stomach distress and sinus headaches and so many others things it’s hard to even imagine. Now I know why the FDA has put out so many warnings about this drug. My question is why don’t they ban it. I’m seeing my doctor about getting off this horrible drug"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I couldn't figure out what was going on with me - I had extreme apathy (apathy is when you lack motivation to do anything or just don't care about what's going on around you)...which is very unlike my character. I was struggling with GERD, just short term for unknown reasons so I decided to try the 14 day Nexium course of treatment. I stopped at day 11. I could not stand the mental health effects it had on me. It brought back my anxiety and panic attacks full force. Why is this not discussed more often? No, none of you are crazy. We can't all have the same issues and be brushed off by the medical profession. I am a registered nurse and will never endorse this medication."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I have been taking nexium for over 14 years now and can not speak highly enough of this drug. Before Nexium I was eating quikezze like they were lollies. Now one 20mg dose all this time daily with the only side effect being gas in the mornings. This has been a wonder drug for me"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I was prescribed the generic brand if Nexium, it worked once I was taking properly. I thought I could stop after a while but I would truly not be able to eat or sleep thru the nite if I was not taking this pill. Though I take daily on rare occasion I have an episode of running to bathroom to throw up at nite. I have noticed no side effects and have been talking for a year or a little longer."

But like a crazy person I kept taking it. Start having anxiety and I started losing weight - 18 pounds within one months. But eventually I got myself off of it and start taking taking nexium and it did not work either, I started lose patches of my hair. I stated research both medications and they both were in the worst pill list. I’m now taking Zantac 150 hopefully this will work."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I started with really bad nausea and sick to my stomach. When I went to my GI doctor, I was diagnosed with duodenitis and chronic gastritis. I was so sick with nausea twenty-four seven, I literally felt like I was going to die. I actually told my GI to prescribe me Nexium 40 mg. My GI was hesitant, but I insisted. I took it for about a month and a half, and on my second endoscopy, my chronic gastritis had gone down to mild gastritis, and the nausea is almost gone. Nexium really helped me. I don't know about the side effects since I took it at night. But the nausea was still persistent, it's just now going away. I can tell you this is one of the best medicines. Stops the acid production by 95 percent-something I had to find out on my own. Good luck."

Nexium 24HR (esomeprazole) for GERD "Had GERD for 3 weeks, couldn't even sleep at night. So I decided to try Nexium 24HR after a bit of research. I've been on it now for 5 days, and for me, it works wonders. Now I can even eat, got my appetite back. All I can say after reading a lot of reviews, pros and cons, it really helped me, but to each his or her own. I had nothing to lose."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I started taking Nexium in my teens (20 years ago) for persistent acid reflux. At the time it relieved the nausea I was experiencing and I used it on and off for about 7 years before stopping completely. One thing I did suffer with during those 7 years was chronic diarrhoea, which at the time was diagnosed as IBS. After I stopped Nexium completely the pattern of chronic diarrhoea went away. That is until this past year when I was re-prescribed Nexium to deal with heartburn. When it works Nexium is great and I have no problem tolerating the side effects to gain what relief I can from reflux. However, I've noticed this time around it's working very slowly to alleviate my heartburn pain, if it alleviates it at all, and it's made dealing with any side effects increasingly frustrating."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I was on Aciphex for 4-5 years, but the expense of it shifted me over to Nexium. I have now been taking 20 mg Nexium for 4 years and have not had a GERD attack in years. My concerns are now that you can buy it OTC, I am concerned it will not be strong enough? And secondly, why is it that most nutritionists and holistic doctors insist that these acid-controlling pills are the worst thing to take for your body? I tried not taking it for 2 months and immediately had an attack, which is horrible. Can someone answer my concerns, please?"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "Nexium medication has made a huge difference to my life. I no longer worry about causing painful reflux when I choose something on a menu. It has helped me stabilize my Barrett's esophagus to a point where I only need one endoscopy every year."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I've had GERD since I was 14, and I had tried all sorts of OTC and prescription medicines. Most of them worked okay, but I would still have to pop a few Tums before I went to bed. After starting on Nexium, I feel great! I've yet to have any signs of heartburn, and I haven't had any side effects. This is the most expensive prescription I've had, but the cost is well worth it."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Omg I an so glad I found this website!! I took nexium 20mg 24hr for 2 weeks then my GI put me on 40mg and after taking it for 1 week I thought I was going crazy with all these horrible side effects such as anxiety, muscle twitches, bloating, belching, insomnia, heart palpation and much more!! Ended up in the ER, did an ultrasound and bloodwork and nothing came up so they must thought I was faking it. It raises my blood pressure, makes me so fatigue that some days I couldn’t even get out of bed. My mouth and eyes were so dry, brain fog and confusion…. Just HORRIBLE!! I’m so glad I went on here and found all these reviews, I will stop taking it!"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I only got prescribed Nexium yesterday due to intense chest pressure/ heart burn caused by the bacteria h pylori. I took 2 doses at the Hospital, one when I got home and one when I woke up as instructed by the doctor. The side effects are scary. I can’t get out of bed. I have zero energy. I keep throwing up. I have insane chills I am either freezing or hot. And the worst of them all…. ANXIETY. I can’t even catch my breath. This is the worst I’ve almost ever felt. I called the doctor and he said it’s possible that the pill is doing this and to take Omerpradex instead. I hope this feeling will go away fast because I have never felt so ill before!!!"

This started to improve day 6. After being on it for a week, am almost back to normal. Felt like the drugs had to work on the H. Pylori, then the body had to work on getting the drug out of the body."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "After a couple of hours of taking Nexium I began to feel nauseous, another hour or so later I vomited. Then the diarrhea started. Watery and urgent I couldn't leave the house. I have tried this medicine several times and every time I have had the same reaction. It is the worst medicine I have ever been prescribed and I am going to destroy the ones I have left. The dosage I was prescribed was 40mg and this may well be too much but I will not try to take it again. "
