"I was prescribed this medicine because I have weight issues, I can gain weight but I lose it fast. So my friend told me years ago about it , so I told my doctor . I took it on February 10th, I was 113 now it's Monday the 15 I'm 119. So yes it does work and I'm also over the sleepiness. I love it no bloated gut at all ."

"I started taking Apetamin syrup which is the generic brand for Periactin. It contains the same ingredient -cyproheptadine- which stimulates your appetite. I couldn't find it in stores so I ordered it on Amazon for 17.00 and it arrived in 2 days. I'm 4'11 and I've always been small and had a hard time gaining weight except during my pregnancies. This stuff works!!! I have been eating everything in sight and for the first time I'm able to finish my entire meal. I started taking this on Jan. 31 2016 at 95 lbs by the time I weighed myself on Feb 10 I had gained 7 lbs. I couldn't believe it. I knew my clothes felt tighter and looked better on me but I was not expecting a 7 lb gain so fast. My goal is 120 lbs :) BW= 95lbs CW=102lbs GW=120"

"I was prescribed this medication for rapid weight loss (-25lbs in 2 weeks) from severe anxiety and panic disorder. During this time I was unable to eat hardly anything and lost my appetite completely. My psychiatrist gave me a 4mg dose of this to take daily. I started off by taking only half a dose and that did the trick for me. I have gained 5 pounds back in about 10 days. I do have to say the appetite increased mostly toward the evening, not so much in the morning, but it does work. I did not experience any side effects from it."

"I took this medicine 4 months back I was 37kg and I gain 5kg of weight. I am still underweight but want to suggest don't take this medicine for long time. My periods are affected they become irregular from last 4 months. It's good for appetite stimulator but can affect your body ."

"A few weeks ago I wasn't feeling well. I felt dizzy, faint, stomach was hurting, nausea and sweaty. After that day I just couldn't eat anything. Days went on and I would eat 4 spoons of applesauce for the whole day. The thought and smell of food made me feel nauseous so I didn't eat. Beacuse of that I lost 10 lbs in 1 week. They gave me this medicine to take 3 times a day to get my appetite back. And it works!! It only took 2 days to start working for me. I finally can eat normal again."

"This is not my experience but from my learning on pharmacology. If someone takes Periactin for long time, it causes psychosis and damage to liver. So, before taking Periactin for long time, consult your doctor"

"I've always struggled with my weight, I'm 30 years old with 2 boys and my weight rocketed with both pregnancies and went right back down again lol I've tried quite a few things but nothing really helped. I do remember going to a Chinese herbal store 3 years ago and was given a powder mixture to mix with water and drink twice a day, it works but I'm not good with drinking large quantities. Fast forward to today. I'm currently 5'6, weighing 153lbs, I hate seeing what I see in the mirror, skinny arms, collar bone poking out, my breasts are literally non existent, it's sad! So I went to my GP on 3/1/2019 and asked for periactin, she was happy to prescribe it to me. It's been two days I've been taking these now, I take 3 a day and they make me so hungry. I've also noticed I haven't been getting the sleepiness or headaches some say they have experienced within the first 3 days of taking them. I will be back to update after a week or 2 to see if I've gained any weight since x"

"So I was using this cyproheptadine for anorexia, and it caused severe heart problems with me, my heart would skip beats and my mind would play with me and cause me to have panic attacks, to this day it still causes skipped beats, I'm in my late teens and was prescribed this when I was 8 years old, would not suggest giving this to someone that young at all."

"I have always struggled to gain weight until my dr prescribed me this. It took only a few days to get over the sleepiness but it was worth it. After 2 months I gained about 12 lbs. I only took 1/2-1 pill daily the first month. After I noticed a plateau in weight gain I started to up my dose at 2 pills a day. So far I'm continuing to gain and hope to gain more."

"During my pregnancy I had severe morning sickness the whole time & couldn't keep anything down. Before I got pregnant I was 125lbs, after I had my son I went down to 109. It was almost impossible trying to gain weight because I could go a whole day without really wanting to eat. I heard about these pills online & asked my doctor for them. A friend of mine had also been taking them & gained 40lbs so I gave it a shot. In about 4 months I've gained 30lbs. I could've gained a lot more by now but I take them on & off. You have to really want to gain & really eat because the pills alone won't make you gain but they do give you an appetite boost. I try to eat at least 3,000 calories per day which I couldn't do without the pills & it has worked!"

"For me being skinny never felt right. I was skin and bones all the time and that really affected my self confidence. In 2011, my mother introduced me to this medicine and I love her extra for it. I moved from being just 110 at 5ft 11ins to 155 in a few months. A month ago when i checked my weight I was 170lbs, damn how I was happy about it. But now I am going through a stressful time in my life (he got someone pregnant) I have already lost 7lbs. I am back on this medicine again and hopefully I gain the lbs I lost recently. It does make you really sleepy at first but then I feel like my body got use to it."

"I've been thin my whole life. Never weighing more than 100lbs. I have two children and at almost 30 I was 5'9 110 lbs when I found this medicine. It started working within days. And I love it. "My son has been taking this medication to help gain weight. It has helped his appetite and seemed to help with his morning sneezing also. We give him a teaspoon in the evening and he is hungry before bed and eats more in the morning now."

"Please only use this through prescription. The ingredients found in GML-apeti and apetamin are NOT the same as the prescription. I tried all three and honestly, the prescription works way better with less side effects. GML has other things added, the prescription is just strictly cyproheptadine. Be careful out here."

"Ive always been skinny but not to a point where people would point it out or say i need to gain weight. I tried taking this because sometimes ill lose my appetite and i can go days without feeling hungry. I took half a 4mg at night before bed and i couldnt get out! I slept from 10 pm all the way to 1:30 in the afternoon and i was still tired! It makes your bones feel like jelly. It does help you gain weight but when i took it, all the weight just went to my stomach. So now im just forcing myself to eat more and i hit the gym 5 times a week for weight lifting and i look better than when i used this pill to gain weight. If you want to put on healthy weight aka muscle this isnt the pill to try- 16lbs of muscle =1 year to put on."

"I have never been diagnosed with anorexia, but I have always been skinny. I have always had a high matabolism. My Dr prescribed me this medicine cyproheptadine and it has increased my appetite so much. I'm constantly always eating, and I finish every meal! "I'm not anorexic but I'm a really small woman right now and can not gain weight at all. I have a nutritionist and still no difference so I went to my Dr on 10/8/19 and so far my appetite has picked up over 50%. I'm eating more off my plates and snacking a lot more than usual. I see where people are starting off taking whole pills right away but my Dr told me a half a pill (4mg) 4x a day for 21 days then 2 whole pills 4x a day. I was at 100lb but I haven't weighed myself but will my next appt. I see my nutritionist 10/26/19 and I'll get weighed in. I'll check back in then but if no change then I'll check in in 2 months when I see my PCP for a check up,and the best thing about it is my Medicaid pays for it. I'm also hypothyroidism so you'd think I'd gain weight alone. I have severe allergies living in Oklahoma lol and take allergy medicine with inhalers as well everyday and if this also helps with allergies then I can kill 2 birds with one stone and stop the inhalers and montelukast."

"1 - My 11 yo was placed on this to "increase her appitite". Guess what? It's hard to eat when your sleeping all the time. 10mg, 1st day I gave it to her on Friday she slept for 18 hours! For 1 week, I was scared to give it to her before school. So I restarted her by cutting it in half and after 5 days, I gave her the whole 10mg. Today I got THE CALL from her Teacher. She is telling her friends she wants to DIE!!! PILLS ARE IN THE TRASH CAN!"

"This s the 2nd time I'm sharing this experience! I think first it didn't work on me! Still I continued using it! I was a lazy person earlier but now I've started working in office and I walk about 3 km everyday! "Took periactin once a day as it made me very drowsy and heavy headed. Although my appetite picked up a lot and over a year I put on about 10 kgs which I wanted, but it was the worst decision to take these tablets as it caused severe dryness in my eyes. Which has led to terrible eye pain day and night. Sadly I didn't make the link between the tablets and the pain till too late but have now stopped taking them. They probably work for some without side effects but not for me unfortunately."

"I tried this on a whim, after reading a lot of reviews. I was a little nervous, as my doctors have never heard of it. Still, I took the chance because I was desperate, and I've gained 15 pounds in 3 weeks! I'm still in shock. My stomach somehow turned into a bottomless pit. I will say though, I kept falling asleep for the first 3 days. Like, deeeeeep sleep. And I had the worst headaches of my life. BUT, it subsided after about 3 days. I still get a little drowsy and disoriented at times, but I don't take it as often now. I started with 3 doses of 4 mg/day, and now I take it once before bed."
