"I started using clonazepam years ago, recommended by my partners psychiatrist at the time to help me with insomnia. I was using 0.5mg only on occasion and it was a miracle. I would fall asleep within an hour of taking them and have a great nights sleep. Loved it. Years later the dosage is now 4.25mg (as my resistance built up and the lower dosage no longer helped). I do take them about three times a week to sleep, especially Sunday night before the work week begins. However, I am now worried that my dosage is too high and I will have trouble getting off of them. "

"I have been on 1 mg of Klonopin, the Teva generic. I have constant gastrointestinal distress. Is anyone else having GI side effects? If so, what solutions are there? I'm taking 1 mg but it makes me too tired. Since I don't get a full night's sleep on it, I assumed I shouldn't take less. One person says she takes .8 mg. How do you do this? Last night I shaved some of my 1 mg, maybe I got it to .8 - .9 mg. How to do precisely? Teva crumbles. Also, is anyone allergic to the generic? Teva and Accord, at least, have inactive ingredients anhydrous lactose, colloidal silicon dioxide and sodium lauryl sulfate. The Hoffman LaRoche brand doesn't. I suspect I'm allergic to one or more of those. I ordered the Klonopin brand but in 1 mg. Years back I did the brand and it worked like a charm but I don't recall the dose. With the slightly lower dose, I already noticed a slight improvement in GI distress. Looking forward to feedback."

"I have spent years not getting proper sleep. I went to visit the hospital and the Doctor Stuck me on Clonazepam when I told him about my sleeping issues. Since I have taken it I have been able to sleep good. Still a bit early to tell but so far I give it a 7 out of 10."

"I had been prescribed 1mg of Xanax before bed for severe insomnia after trying all other sleep meds with side effects, for over 5 years and it worked great. Then I had to get a new PC and they refused to fill Xanax.. Said I needed to go to a psychiatrist for that med. Sooo ridiculous. So, instead he gave me 1mg Klonopin at bedtime. He said it was the same thing just less addictive. I've never had an addiction problem with any meds but he felt "uncomfortable" giving me the rx for Xanax, which again, worked great for me. Now on Klonopin my insomnia is worse. I can't fall asleep until 7-8am and I just lay there wide awake feeling all irritated. I now get 2-3 hours of sleep a night. Which is worse for my health than 1mg of Xanax."

"This medication was truly a life saver for me .... until they took tried to take me off. Went from 4 mg / day to zero and life fell completely apart. I never abused it from the time I was prescribed it. Took it exactly as prescribed. Found the 3 mg / day was pretty much sweet spot for me but the pressure constantly to get of this medication now has me in suffering again badly at 2 mg /day. The need to do a study on how many lives are destroyed when they take people of this drug at are doing just fine on that dosage. They would find that when you strip people off this med when they are dependent on it, you send them to likely full blown insomnia, mania, high blood pressure and even suicide attempts. I ask why are they doing this? This is a very cheap and effective medication and life saving. If some people abuse it, punish them but do not punish those that truly need it to function in society. I am so happy to see recent reviews of people finding doctors to prescribe."

"I have had insomnia for several years, sleeping only 2-3 hours per night. I tried Clonazepam last year for a few months and didn't have much success with it, so I went back to Lunesta, which worked fairly well but left me with a dull headache every day. I decided to try 1mg Clonazepam again after reading that Doxepin helps it to work better - this time I take it along with 3mg of Doxepin Elixir liquid, (which is an antihistamine at low doses of 3-6mg). Now, I fall asleep within 30 minutes and sleep all night! Between 7 and 8 hours. I feel energetic and not groggy at all! I have my life back!!"

"I didn't think there was anything to help my tinnitus after a head injury. My neurologist prescribed Clonazepam to help the sleep problems caused by tinnitus. I finally get some relief and a better nights sleep without the constant interruptions from the ringing."

"I’m currently on vacation in Hawaii and was prescribed .25 mg Clonazepam for insomnia (since I can never sleep while on vacay), and so far I don’t like this drug at all. It does help me sleep, and if I wake in the middle of the night, I’m able to fall right back to sleep, but it makes me feel sedated and numb for most of the next day, and I really dislike that feeling. Tonight I think I’ll try and cut the pill in half. I really wish I’d asked for Ambien or Valium."

"Took this for a decade for insomnia. Didn't realize until I tried to taper off that it was causing migraines. Although this drug did not seem like it was causing problems while I was taking it, (I took it exactly as the doctor prescribed) trying to get off has left me completely disabled. I never had panic attacks in my life until trying to get off this medication, and which point I started having them daily for 3 months. Tapering off this medication has left me in extreme physical pain (doctor said it is nervous system damage from being on klonopin almost 10 years). My muscles ache, my skin feels like it is on fire, and my bones feel like they have been plugged into an electrical socket. It has affected my vision and my hearing."

"This drug Klonopin has got to be my least favorite that I have ever tried. I have nocturnal epilepsy which causes nightmares, daytime sleepiness, and anxiety. This drug was prescribed because it is supposed to help all of those. It made me insanely tired when I would take it. I couldn't function afterwards and would fall asleep. The worst part were the dreams. Naturally if we sleep 8 hours it doesn't feel like 8 hours. On Klonopin I felt every single second of the night. It was awful and miserable. In my dream I would walk around a clothing store for hours and FEEL each material. If water dropped on me I would absolutely feel the wetness. Not in a good way. ALSO importantly, I am in college and normally drink quite heavily. If I took Klonopin I would become extremely nauseous and black out after a few sips. If you take this drug, absolutely do not drink while on it."

"Don't start this drug for sleep or anxiety!! It's the most addicting drug on the face of this earth. It's more addicting than heroin. I was given this drug and OMG it made everything so much better. Sleep, no anxiety then WHAM it quit working. I had to up the dose from .5 mg to 2 mg then when 2 mg was no longer working my psyche Rx me seraquel bc I couldn't sleep. BIG mistake now I'm dependent on yet another drug that quit working last year ( after 10 years) now I'm on disability for IBS, IC and pelvic floor dysfunction bc I took these drugs. Oh did I add I had to be put on another drug to help sleep so I'm polydrugged. What I'd do to have my life back. Don't ruin your life. Klonopin is poison! "

"Took 2 mg dose to help me get on a normal sleep schedule. Had the best sleep ever in my life. The biggest problem with the drug is it is highly addictive and I went through extreme withdrawals coming off it. Reduced dosage .5mg every couple weeks until I was off it. Caused vomiting, heaving sweating, loss of appetite, etc. My advice use it on a strict schedule same time each night and slowing reduce dosage over time."

"I can't believe that there can be a clonazapam board without anyone bringing up the physical dependence that comes with this drug, and the difficult long withdrawal that produces greater insomnia and anxiety than the insomnia and anxiety that led to starting the medication. That said, when taking it, it works. It, like most, if not all benzos, actually start messing up the natural sleep architecture. The longer one takes this, and the higher the dosage, makes for a very difficult withdrawal, physical and psychological. Never, after having taken this medication regularly, suddenly stop. If you do, within three days or so, you'll know why I post the warning. I take 2mg per 24 hours, and have taken it, with one difficult break, 9 years."

"Hi I have had insomnia since march last year and it turns into nervous or anxiety and then became panic attacks. Then I asked my wife to go with me in a doctor and it was psychiatrist because insomnia was in our mind and it does not mean that your crazy when you go to that doctor. My doctor gave me clonazepam or rivotril here in the phillipines.. First I take 2mg, 1mg and 0.5mg as of now. I take it in the morning when I needed it for anxiety panic attacks and add another .5mg if my attacks was strong. I take .5mg everynight for sleep since march last year. I don't know what to do if there is no rivotril or clanazepam in my life. So far the best medicine for me!!! Tnx to my Doctor"

"I have taken 1mg clonozapam for at least 15 years at bedtime and rarely during day for panic attacks. No issues. I did try to wean off because of how long I have taken it and it wasn't fun at all. Decided to go back on and glad I did. I recently read that it interferes with my blood pressure med. Now I don't know what to do. My Dr and Pharmacist agreed on lowering it from 1mg to .5 for thirty days and then I would be off. From everything I have read that is way too fast. I had bad brain zaps and major anxiety with jitters so bad it really scared me, so I still take it. What do I do now?"

"Well I have been on this drug since 2009. I do not know I had an issue until I had a seizure after coming out of the shower. I had all kinds of tests, and then went to a sleep lab. There they said I never entered into REM. So I was totally sleep deprived. I was put on .5mg and it did the trick. I had the real dream and restless leg syndrome where my wife was scared of me. I would yell kick and literally act my dream out and I would wake up exhausted. Since 2009 I'm getting roughly 6 hr of sleep a night. It is awesome. Still have some nights, once a month depending on stress. I travel internationally and my sleep schedule is messed up so I'm sure it doesn't help. But it has worked for me thus far."

"I couldn't sleep or when I woke in the night I couldn't go back to sleep. At one point I relied solely on Klonopin to help me sleep, but it is not designed for that. Plus, eventually you must up the dose to achieve the same results and that is scary. I tried many different meds but none really did well with the anxiety. So my NEW Pdoc put me on the combo of escitalopram (Lexapro) & mirtazapine (Remeron). That really helped me sleep, and it did for 8 years, but now the anxiety is back (generalized, I think). It's always been there but I managed to sleep and that is all that mattered. So now it's back to Klonopin (in addition to the other 2) until I can find an alternative that isn't addictive in quality. I wonder, can we alternate between benzos so that we don't get hooked?"

"One of the effective ones for insomnia...long acting. Actually, I was up 3 nights straight, had to take one 2mg or 2.5...caught up on major sleep. I can't say it's doing a 9pm to 7am. However, it's aiding me in getting sleep. I may need to take it properly. Only downfall, I don't like downers. Also, it doesn't cause hunger but it relaxes me enough to indulge in what I'd normally decline doing. Minor after effect of low energy."

Klonopin (clonazepam) "I was given this medication because of fibromyalgia and insomnia. I was unable to get a deep sleep and as a result my fibromyalgia was very bad. I was not informed of the issues of long term use and have been on it for years. I started with a new doctor and the first thing she did was take me off of this medication down from 1mg to 1/2 for 30 days and then cold turkey. This is way too fast for this medicine. I have had heart palpitations, hallucinations, inability to sleep-at all, lightheaded, high blood pressure, racing pulse, really weird thoughts. "

"For me I can not go too long without sleep everything goes bad or gets worse. I can't take benzos all the time. I build tolerances, and the side effects are awful. So I try for a balance and use them only 2-3 days a week when I become hypomanic/manic. I find also rest better on the off nights. I know I can always sleep the next day so any anxiety about the fear of not sleeping is eliminated. These also are amazing for akathsia"

"My experience with the drug has been terrible, to say the least. I visited my doctor because I suddenly started experiencing severe sleeplessness for an entire week. He prescribed me this medication without much explanation. I was instructed to take 0.5mg-1mg as needed for insomnia. Without researching it beforehand, I began taking the medication and it did help me fall asleep. However, my nightmare began when I attempted to stop taking the drug after three consecutive months. My doctor assured me that since my dosage was low (1mg nightly), I only needed to reduce it to 0.5mg "for a few nights." Unfortunately, I experienced severe withdrawal symptoms. Over the next three months, I struggled to wean myself off the medication by taking it only 3-4 nights a week and enduring sleepless nights on the other days. It wasn't until I consulted a psychiatrist that I was able to establish a proper tapering plan. I gradually tapered off this medication over a period of 10 weeks. Although there were still a few challenging moments during the process, I am now able to sleep naturally without relying on it. Based on my experience, I do not recommend this drug for sleep purposes. Please exercise caution and be well-informed before considering it."

"I've had PTSD induced insomnia since I was 6 years old. I've tried every possible drug there is, ambien, lunesta and the like. Nothing seems to work, and my recurring dream always seems to come right back and wake me up. One time I decided to try klonopin because sleeping on a cycle of 4 days awake 5 hours asleep from 6 years old to 29 will make you try anything. First time I took it, one 2mg pill, I slept for three solid days, I've never experience sleep that deep that I can remember, but it feels like a life saver, my only way to truly sleep after feeling like the reaper was just hanging over my head waiting."

"I take fluvoxamine for overall general OCD 150mg/day at dinner. Mild insomniac my entire life. Recently, it was really bad so in the last month or so I tried trazadone (by a doctor), which had horrible effects on me . For some reason although this has a high success rate for many people, it didn't not work for me. After this, my doctor prescribed me 2mg of clonazepam 90 minutes before bedtime. It works very good, I have a little drowsiness the next day, but overall love the medication. It does take me about 2 hours to kick in instead of 90 minutes."
