For Gout "I suffered with gout for years and the side effects from allopurinol got too bad . It took care of the gout attack but created 5-10 other issues so I went off it . I reduced my weight by 15 lbs and my uric acid went down from 685 to 385 and no more attacks. No more gout and no more horrible side effects . I exercise 4 times a week as well for 1 hr and have cut down on red meat and do not drink alcoholic beverages. I was a 4-6 glasses of wine a week drinker . I do not drink beer or spirits ."

For Gout "I am 48 years old. I suffered gout attacks for more than five years. It was very debilitating and depressing. My GP prescribed me allopurinol therapy for six months and it works! I have never gout attacks since then."

For Gout "Started taking Allopurinol for gout (I'm 68) with naproxen. I stopped the Naproxen, continued with Allopurinol and felt pretty good, little or no pain anywhere. A month later, I had another blood test and the GP called to say my uric acid level was (still) too high and told me to double the dose. Here's the thing: On taking the double dose (200mg), light gout symptoms and an RSI type pain in both wrists, and an old neck pain returned. I treated these with Naproxen and the pain went away, however, when I stopped taking Naproxen (as it's hard on the stomach), the wrist weakness and very minor gout pain returned. So the Allopurinol (for me) exacerbated pain symptoms anywhere in the body in the short 3-week term. There's a research project in this."

For Gout "Tried allopurinol low dose one day after the gout attack it increased my uric acid to 12 from 8 ( measured reliabily ). Dr said it will take a week to stabilize but I guess I am one of the unlucky guys."

For Gout "At the age of sixty I've dealt with gout 3 to 5 times a year for about ten years. I never take it until I have a flare up. Having an aversion to meds of any kind I sometimes wait for a week or two, enduring debilitating pain, before I begin titration of allopurinol. It always goes away within a few days. I used to wonder if it was coincidence that it subsided after I take it. After having around 30 bouts with gout I'm convinced this drug works very well for me"

For Gout "Gout attacks began in late 20's then gradually progressed from big toe to elbows, knees, wrist, knuckles, ankle, etc. 35 years old now with long family history of gout. Started off 100mg gradually up to 300mg at the moment. First year of use was brutal with daily to weekly attacks. Still receiving attacks even at the moment just not as severe (more than one joint attacked). Attacks have spread further apart in time. Still unsure about allopurinol, but luckily no major side effects other than dry mouth, dry skin, and if cut, takes longer to stop bleeding. Overall I'd say it is helping, but very slowly...."

For Gout "Have been on 300 mcg of allopurinol everyday for approximately 30 years and suddenly last week I had a gout attack. I am in a quandary as to why. My doctor doesn't seem to come up with an answer. I am wondering whether it is worth it to keep doing this if it isn't going to stop gout attacks."

For Gout "Being lactose intolerant I had to request a liquid version which is off licence. The absorption rate is faster. After only a week, I suffered nose bleeds, headaches and bowel problems. My GP is dismissive and doesn't see a connection. Anyone had similar issues?"

For Gout "Like all meds, this does not work for everyone, and I'm unlucky. I still get gout symptoms (inflamed big toe joint, pain) after using it. Almost a year on this med, and 5.7 uric acid level down from 5.8."

For Gout " 300 mg and colcris to reduce anything the might happen. Miracle drug if something on side line whoops the gout in shape. Took for 30 days and was in perfect shape... had a bad gout attack and found more colcris which was prescribed a year ago and I wasn't suppose to be taking ... anyways however I was taking it for 30 more days... My feet were in peace and in heaven for the ultimate use your foot at u wanted mode. 3 days after colcris ran out... It's been hell! I don't know what to do.... I just might finally cut my foot off!"

For Gout "Expat living in rural Philippines (jungle) there's not many options for the health care and because of Covid difficult to get treatment for gout. I started getting severe pain in my finger joints and what I now know is tophi. I had high uric acid levels when I got tested a year earlier, so concluded I have gout. Online, I read research papers that explained the mechanism of uric acid saturation and formation of uric acid crystals that cause gout Started taking Allopurinol at 100mg and over several weeks increased to 500mg/day. I know that I will still have joint pain in the short term as uric acid crystals dissolve in the short term. My uric acid levels are down to 6mg/ml as read on the my home tester. Plan on reducing meds gradually in a couple of years once the tophi has gone... To date, no side effects and no loss of sex drive"

For Gout "Have been taking Alluperinol 100mg but have had three attacks of gout over the past three months and five attacks in the past eleven months. Each of these attacks have been treated with a five day course of Colcichine."

For Gout "Uk man here, 48 years years old. Age of 32 I went to hospital believing I'd broken bones in foot, hobbled in told by doc..naaa you got gout you need to rest that foot make a go appointment. I didn't because the pain subsided. Then followed intermittent gout attacks every 2 or 3 years. I had to get it sorted after a really bad attack where I couldn't even get out of bed and going up and down stairs was traumatic. Prescribed 2x100mg Allupurinol and Omeprazole. This after having a go with Colchocine which I rejected graphically. Allupurinol is a true wonder drug, I've never been on medication before so I can only tell you it does exactly what it says on the tin. Not only that, it's cheaply manufactured. I don't smoke, don't drink drink and of healthy weight, so I must conclude my condition is hereditary."

For Gout "Started taking allopurinol at age 54 after trying to manage gout through lifestyle and diet for 14 years. Adopted a vegetarian diet, limited use of alcohol, and was not overweight. What finally 'cracked' me was a severe attack in one of my ankles, whereas previous attacks (about 1/year) always struck the left toe joint. Attacks were typically prompted by severe exertion and dehydration. The uric acid level had crept up to 7.2 and stayed there. Started on a regimen of 300mg allopurinol and 10mg colchicine. It prompted an initial minor flare-up, but none since. Stopped the colchicine after 6 months and am continuing the allopurinol 300mg once daily. The most recent uric acid level is 5.2 and has had no issues or side effects."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I am taking Allopurinol 300mg/day to prevent uric acid kidney stones. I commenced taking them Nov. 2017 after many years of regular stones forming however since this date I have had NO re occurrence of stones. I have started having a salty type taste in my mouth which I put down to the medication, however this is a small price to pay for the relief from passing kidney stones."

For Gout "I had terrible pain for years, Followed the fad & gave up meat , Gout got no better. Then tried Allopurinol ,within three months I was pain free for the first time in ten years, I even started eating meat again still pain free so its great."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I have just started to use this drug and I hope it works. I have had more than 4 lithotripsy operations so far three external and one internal. I've gotta do something, it's destroying my kidneys and my pocketbook. I'll try to keep my fellow sufferers up to date."

For Gout "Get rash on one leg only but itches so bad I've bled with scratching I now wear exfoliating glove before scratching because it drives me crazy. Can't cover with a dressing because the heat becomes so intense. It's a red pinhead rash, is it a side affect of allupurinol? Drives me nuts."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I have been on 300 mg Allopurinol daily for 7-8 years to control kidney stones. My experience has been very satisfactory. The pill color was ORANGE for all the years until my last refill. I get a 90 count refill and the last TWO refills have been WHITE with the imprint AX and without any numerals. I have not unsealed the last one of those two refills as I have a few left in the first one. However I have been having a pain in my left side that I finally have determined kidney stone symptom. In recent reflecting I believe this has started a within the period when I began with the WHITE AX pills. Would appreciate your comments. I do intend to consult my local pharmacist this coming week. "

For Gout "Excellent so far. I am a 57 year old male and my last major flare up was when I was 40 which was awful I couldn’t walk, even driving was difficult as pressing down the clutch caused pain. Over the last 17 years. I have been relatively pain free and then suddenly three years ago, it came back. Then recently I have had minor flare ups so Doc recommended Allopurinol and all great so far…although I have switched to a veg diet once per day"

For Gout "Been taking Allopurinol for years. DR didn't really tell me the side effects. It works well on my gout, but allopurinol has given me erectile dysfunction and a low to nil libido. They don't tell you that, you have to dig around on the internet to find that out. Il'l be looking for an alternative."

For Gout "I was diagnosed with gout in my toe when I was 18 years of age. I was advised by my doctor to drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet, which I was already doing. As I have gotten older the flare-ups of gout have increased and I was recently prescribed allopurinol which has helped a lot."

For Gout "After many years on allopurinol,I switched to drinking more water . The redness and frequent pain in my left foot disappeared within a short time and a blood test showed a normal level of uric acid."
