Land O Lakes Colostrum Replacement for Kid Goats and Lambs Indications
LAND O LAKES® Colostrum Replacement is used as an aid in the treatment of failure of passive transfer (FPT) in newborn kid goats and lambs.
LAND O LAKES® Colostrum Replacement for Kid Goats and Lambs can be used to replace or supplement maternal colostrum when:
● The quality or quantity of available colostrum is not adequate;
● Kid goats and lambs are unable to suckle, such as in multiple births, first pregnancy dams, and those born to sick or weak dams;
● Ewes or does are infected with disease agents that can be transferred through infected colostrum.
Directions For Use
Use a whisk or metal mixing ball (for mixing sports drinks or “smoothies”) to mix the powder for each feeding into water that is hot to the touch (110 to 120°F or 43 to 49°C). Hot water and vigorous mixing are required because of the high levels of natural colostral fat and proteins.
Newborn lambs and goat kids should receive their first feeding of colostrum as soon after birth as possible by nipple bottle or esophageal tube. Feed colostrum 3 times in the first 18 hours of life.
Dose:
Each feeding is based on body weight.
Feed the appropriate amount described in the table 3 times in the first 18 hours of life.
